Yep, you read that title right. Mermaids are finally here! They come with The Sims 4: Island Living and they are better and more powerful than ever! Read on to learn more about these enchanting (and sometimes deadly) creatures of the deep sea…
Creating Your Mermaid
Mermaids can be created directly in CAS by selecting the occult option when choosing to add a new Sim to the household. Existing Sims cannot be made into a mermaid in CAS (but they can become mermaids in-game! More on that later!)
Like aliens and vampires, mermaids have both a human form and an occult form. You can dress up their human form the same way you would with any human Sim, but the mermaid form only has one outfit category; swimwear. Mermaids have a variety of customization options tailored specifically for them. You can choose both the style and colour of their fins. Some fin swatches have neat patterns or shimmering scales. For feminine mermaids, you can also choose from a variety of tops, ranging from human swim tops, to coconuts and seashells, to chest scales that extend up from the tail. Mix and match fin and top styles and colours as much as you like!
Mermaids also have some new glowing/patterned eyes and face presets designed just for them. Create the perfect recreation of Ariel, or opt for a style more like the eerie merfolk out of the Harry Potter films. It’s all up to you.
TIP!Don’t want your mermaid to look anything like their human form? Unlink the two forms in CAS and any changes you make to one form won’t apply to the other! Link them again whenever you want a change to stick for both forms. Neat, huh?
Mermaid Biology
Mermaids age at the same pace as human Sims. Sims of all ages can be mermaids, but toddlers and children won’t grow their fins or display any mermaid abilities until they become teenagers.
Mermaids have all the same motives human Sims do except for one. The hygiene motive is replaced with a new hydration motive for mermaids. Mermaids can walk on land as humans, but they can’t stay out of the water for extended periods of time. They need to be in water frequently in order to thrive. The Hydration motive will decay slowly over time if a mermaid is not in water. Baths, showers, and drinking water can help restore the hydration motive, but mermaids are happiest when outside in open waters.
The hydration motive serves a second function; it is also a mermaid’s power source. The more hydrated a mermaid is, the more powers they can use. A dehydrated mermaid will not be able to use their powers. More on that in the next section.
Mermaids will automatically switch into their human form while on land and return to their mermaid form while in water; however, mermaids can wade in very shallow waters in their human forms.
PSST!Did you know mermaids gain Fitness skill from swimming just like human Sims? Since mermaids spend most of their time in the water, this makes them super athletic!
Mermaid Abilities and Limitations
Mermaids do not have a skill tree. All mermaids have the same abilities and limitations, but their traits do influence what actions they can and can’t do. Mermaids with the Good trait will not be able to do any serious harm to human Sims with their powers. Mermaids with the Evil trait will not be able to use certain powers that benefit human Sims. Mermaids that have neither of these traits are more neutral and can use all mermaid abilities.
Every power a mermaid uses costs Hydration Points, which comes from the Hydration motive. Using a mermaid power depletes the Hydration motive. The more a mermaid uses their powers while on land, the faster their Hydration motive will deplete. This means that mermaids are most powerful while they are in water because they have an unlimited source of Hydration Points while in the water.
Ability List
Siren’s Lullaby(-30 Hydration) – Can be done both on land and in water. The mermaid can sing a variety of haunting melodies to put other Sims into specific emotional states. This ability works on other mermaids as well.
Aegean’s Question – Makes the target Sim Tense.
Charmer’s Lullaby – Makes the target Sim Flirty.
Inspiring Berceuse – Makes the target Sim Inspired.
Night’s Requiem – Makes the target Sim Sad.
Mermaid’s Kiss(-30 Hydration) – Can be done both on land and in water, but has a more powerful effect in water. The mermaid can kiss another Sim without needing to build a romantic relationship first.
Siren’s Call(-100 Hydration) – Can only be done in water. The mermaid sings a haunting melody to lure an unsuspecting Sim out into the water. When the Sim reaches the mermaid, the mermaid drags the Sim underwater. This immediately depletes all of the target Sim’s motives. If a Sim cannot swim back to shore fast enough after having Siren’s Call used on them, they can drown. Good mermaids cannot use this power.
Summon Ocean Threat(-30 Hydration) – Can only be done in water. The mermaid sings to cause the target Sim to flounder and panic in the water. There is a chance the target Sim can drown from this, especially if they recently had Siren’s Call used on them. Good mermaids cannot use this power.
Call Clear Skies(-75 Hydration) – Requires Seasons. Can be done both on land and in water. The mermaid blows into a conch shell to change the weather. Cannot be used when the weather is already clear. Evil mermaids cannot use this power.
Call Rainstorm(-75 Hydration) – Requires Seasons. Can be done both on land and in water. The mermaid blows into a conch shell to change the weather. Cannot be used when the weather is already rainy.
Call Thunderstorm(-75 Hydration) – Requires Seasons. Can be done both on land and in water. The mermaid blows into a conch shell to change the weather. Cannot be used when the weather is already stormy. Good mermaids cannot use this power.
Aquatic Lure(-30 Hydration) – Can only be done at fishing spots or on boats. The mermaid blows into a conch shell to attract more fish and rarer fish to that area.
Call Over Azure Dolphin(-30 Hydration) – Can only be done while in water. Both humans and mermaids can interact with dolphins, but only mermaids can call them at will without having to become soulmates with one, first. Mermaids instantly become soulmates with any dolphin they interact with.
All mermaid abilities that cost Hydration Points have a cooldown period after it’s used. The more Hydration Points an ability costs, the longer the cooldown period.
Mermaids have some other abilities that do not cost Hydration Points. They are just innate perks of being a mermaid.
Mermaids can sleep in the water. They don’t need to use beds at all. Combined with the fact that all Sims (including mermaids) can relieve themselves in the water when their Bladder motive becomes desperate, your mermaids can live almost entirely in water, rarely needing to come to shore except to grab a bite to eat now and then. All other motives can be satisfied in the water, including the Social motive.
Mermaids can sunbathe in the water; however, if their mermaid form has a special occult skin tone, they will not be able to do this. Occult skin tones do not tan or burn.
Mermaids can free dive without having to reach Fitness level 3 first.
Mermaids will occasionally make dolphin noises while on land. They will also frequently clasp their hands and hum to themselves while on land.
Mermaids turn into their mermaid form when taking baths.
Mermaids can swim in swimming pools.
Mermaids can talk to fish in aquariums.
Mermaid Limitations
Mermaids don’t have many limitations. The ones they do have are pretty minor, but there are a few things your mermaid Sims will not be able to do.
Mermaids cannot snorkel. It’s apparently a touchy subject in the mermaid community…
Mermaids cannot use ladders. Their fins make climbing them a bit difficult.
Mermaids cannot scuba dive. They don’t need scuba gear to go diving, so they don’t have the option to purchase any; however, mermaids can still free dive and do all the same things scuba diving Sims can do while free diving, so this isn’t really much of a drawback at all.
Becoming a Mermaid
You don’t have to make a mermaid in CAS. Human Sims can become mermaids by eating mermadic kelp.
Mermadic kelp can be purchased for 500 satisfaction points, but if your Sim is the more adventurous type, mermadic kelp can also be found by exploring the cave on Mua Pal’em. Sims also have a chance of finding mermadic kelp while scuba diving.
Once your Sim has some mermadic kelp in their inventory, click on it to have your Sim eat it. They will immediately get an Energized moodlet called Strange Sensations which hints that your Sim should probably find some open water to go swimming in. This moodlet lasts 24 in-game hours.
If your Sim enters the water while they have the Strange Sensations moodlet, they will transform into a mermaid!
TIP!Tired of the aquatic life? Have your mermaid eat two mermadic kelp in a row to instantly become human!
We hope you enjoyed this guide to mermaids! You can help us make this guide even more complete! If you have any other information about mermaids not mentioned in this guide, please let us know so we can add it to the guide with credit given to you!
Special thanks to our readers, Hugandkissasim, Angie, Thomas, and Aria, for providing valuable information for this guide.
Welcome to Sulani! Looking to get your feet wet, but don’t know where to start exploring everything this beautiful island has to offer? No problem! Kick back, relax, and let Sims Community walk you through how to make the most of your new life in paradise!
Creating Your Sims
First thing’s first; Sulani needs Sims! Make some yourself in CAS using a wide assortment of new tropical themed clothes, hairstyles, and accessories for all ages! Or if you want to jump into a pre-existing story, Sulani has four premade families ready to jump in and play.
PSST! Don’t forget… You can make mermaids in CAS! Making a mermaid is a great way to kick off your brand new island life! Mermaids can do plenty of things humans can’t, but there are a couple things they can’t do that humans can. Why not make both a human and a mermaid to get the best of both worlds?

Moving to Sulani
Select Sulani from the world screen and start house hunting! Think about what’s most important to you. Is your Sim a total beach bum? You might want to situate them on the water close to a public beach. Are they the reclusive type who’s looking for a bit of danger? The base of the volcano is sure to fit their adventurous lifestyle.
My Sim is a mermaid who loves being around humans, so I moved her into the starter lot in the heavily populated lagoon. She’ll be close to the water and be able to meet lots of other Sims.
I’m Here! … Now What?
With so much to do and explore, you might find yourself floundering for what to do first when you first arrive in Sulani, but don’t worry. The locals here are incredibly friendly and can’t wait to give you a warm island greeting. There is a new type of welcome wagon, called Island Welcome. Instead of bringing over that horrid fruitcake no one likes, your new neighbours will bring you a fresh bowl of kava instead; a popular island drink made from kava roots that has relaxing properties.
Your new neighbours are so nice that they’ll even help clean up before they leave and the kava bowl they brought over is yours to keep! You can make your own kava whenever you like now!
If you truly want to dive right in to everything your new tropical home has to offer, why not select the new Beach Life aspiration? It will help introduce you to some of the new things to do around Sulani. My Sim has this aspiration and her first aspiration goals are to get a suntan, throw a gold level kava party, and eat a coconut.
I throw one of the new lounge chairs onto her back deck for her to soak up some sun. It’s important to keep a close eye on your Sims while they’re sunbathing. Wait for the happy moodlet that tells you your Sim got a nice tan, then cancel the action. If you don’t, your Sim will continue to sunbathe until they get a nasty sunburn.
Next on the list is to throw a gold level kava party. We still have the kava bowl from the welcome wagon and we already know some of our new neighbours, so let’s get the party started. Kava Party is a new party type that can be found in the Social Event menu on your cell phone.
Getting gold on a kava party turned out to be pretty easy thanks to having such amazing neighbours! As long as the kava kept flowing and the guests had something to eat, everyone was happy. What I was most surprised by was that it wasn’t just the people on my invite list that showed up to party. Everyone passing through the neighbourhood decided to stop in for some kava and friendly conversation. Makoa and Lilliana even brought their toddler, Nani, over! Social Events are truly a whole community affair in Sulani and the added presence of extra Sims helped to make my kava party a huge success! It was probably the most fun I’d ever had throwing a Social Event.

After a good night’s rest, the only thing left on the aspiration goal list was to eat a coconut. Coconuts can be found in the wild growing on trees. You can harvest and replant them at home in your own garden as well, but since it was only my second day on Sulani, there were no mature coconut trees to harvest from. That wasn’t an issue, though. The beach supply vending machine located on the main strip in Ohan’ali Town had fresh coconuts and pineapples for sale, as well as many other beach objects for some fun on the sand and in the water.

I’m… not quite sure why she decided to bite into an unopened coconut, but hey, it’s your life, Tahi. You do what feels right to you, even if it makes my teeth hurt watching you.
It’s all fun and games frolicking around on the beach and in the ocean until you remember you need simoleons to buy that shiny new aqua zip you’ve had your eye on. Last night’s kava party was fun, but if Tahi wants to continue to enjoy life on a tropical island, she’ll need to find a way to make money.
Thankfully, there are more choices than ever when it comes to jobs. If your Sims want to enjoy a laid back lifestyle, only working when they need some extra cash, odd jobs are the way to go. There are always Sims looking for someone to take care of a chore here and there for them. You’ll get paid immediately and once the job is done, it’s done. Your Sims are free to relax until they decide they could use some more spending money. Make sure to pick a job that matches your Sims’ skills or they may not perform very well.
Tahi takes a job that doesn’t require any skills and decides to help out Alice Martin with frog research.

Fun in the Sun
Now that you’ve introduced yourself to the locals, had a great party on your first night in Sulani, and found a way to make some quick cash whenever you need it, it’s time to really hit the beach and the waves and enjoy yourself! There are lots of things to do both on land and in the water in Sulani.
Build sand castles, sunbathe on a beach towel or lounge chair, relax on a water lounger, take a trip across the water in a canoe, do tricks on an aqua zip, go snorkeling or diving out in deeper waters, use the new fishing traps, comb the beach for seashells, or just enjoy swimming around in open waters. Every day on Sulani is yours to treasure!

Island Events
Have we mentioned that the locals are very friendly, yet? Well, if you’re ever in Ohan’ali Town in the evenings, make sure to stop by the pavilion and see what’s going on. The people of Sulani love to gather at the pavilion to socialize and party almost every night of the week! The activities and decorations change every time, so if you were at last night’s pit BBQ, don’t assume it’ll be the same the next night. There could be bonfires and fire dancing, new vendors setting up shop, or musical instruments and easels set up for a night of artistic inspiration. And yes, there is usually kava at these festivities. Make sure to stop by whenever you see decorations up to chat with friends and enjoy some free food and entertainment!

A More Permanent Impact
So you’ve met the locals, had a kava party, tried some local produce, got a tan, frolicked on the beach and in the water, done a few odd jobs here and there, and attended some of the nightly festivities in Ohan’ali Town. That’s great, but what if your Sim wants to make a more permanent impact on Sulani? The new Conservationist career may be just the thing for them!
The island of Sulani is a closed ecosystem, which makes it a very beautiful place… but also a very fragile place. The smallest foreign contaminant could collapse the island’s entire biosphere. It’s up to the island’s dedicated conservationists to protect Sulani and keep it thriving.
06 19 19 4 45 38 PM
06 19 19 5 01 21 PM
Look for the new Conservationist career in the Jobs section of your cell phone. You’ll start with basic tasks like researching Conservation on a computer and surveying the fauna and flora around Mua Pel’am island, but as you gain promotions, you’ll be able to have a greater positive impact on the islands.
And there you have it! Your introduction to starting a new life in the tropics. We hope you found all this information helpful in guiding your first steps on Sulani. Before you set sail for Sulani, make sure to give us your feedback either here in the comments or on social media!
One of the many features making a splash in The Sims 4 Island Living is the addition of Dolphins.
Now, you might be wondering how you go about finding one of the many dolphins residing in Sulani. Join us as we dive in and discover more.
You will usually find Dolphins swimming around near one of the Diving Buoys that are scattered around the ocean in Sulani. Dolphins only tend to appear two or three times a day at any given location. When you spot the Dolphins, they will usually be in a small group of three or four and you will be able to Call Over one of the dolphins. This may take a few times to do so but simply click near the diving buoy on the ocean and you should get the interaction to appear on the screen.
Once the Dolphin has come over to you there are a number of interactions that you can do with them. Some of these interactions may not be available straight away but they will unlock as you build your relationship with a Dolphin.
Pet Dolphin
Ask To Be Squirted (Requires the Child of the Ocean trait)
Playfully Splash
Feed – You can feed Dolphins for $2 or by using fish you have caught from your Sims inventory
Request Trick – Belly Rub, Dance, Fetch (the Dolphin may return with a gift for your Sim), Jump or Kiss
Talk to Dolphin
Name Dolphin – You are also able to rename your Dolphin if you wish as well
Dismiss
Note: Some of the interactions will require your Sim to have a higher friendship level than others. If the interaction doesn’t work the first time around, try a couple of other interactions and then try again.
However, if you are a mermaid you will be able to call an Azure Dolphin. These Dolphins take on a more blue/green colour for their appearance. Calling an Azure Dolphin takes away thirty hydration from your Mermaid Sim but you are able to call the Azure Dolphin from anywhere in the ocean. You do not need to find a diving buoy you simply just click on the ocean. The Azure Dolphin’s have all of the same interactions as a normal Dolphin does as well.
Dolphins are an adorable and funny addition to The Sims 4 and it is lovely to see them swimming around Sulani. Who knows the dolphins may have a surprise or two in store for your Sim. You may be lucky enough to discover one or two of the Albino Dolphins when you help clean up the Islands.

As with any career, your Sim can join the Fisherman career simply by sitting down at a laptop/computer, using their cell phone or by the career tab on the user interface.
Note: Your Sim can have more than one part-time job, providing that the shift times do not conflict with each other.
Like most of the careers in the game, your Sim will go to work and return at the end of their shift. There is also no work from home assignments for this career.
The Fisherman career also comes with three levels that can be found detailed below.

The Sims 4 Island Living has added several new lot traits for players to truly customise the way their Sims live on the beautiful island of Sulani. As an added bonus, The Sims Team has even made a couple of these new traits available to all players for free in the base game!
Oceanic Paradise – This lot has an abundance of ocean life. Swimming in the ocean is an inspiring endeavor and dolphins and rare fish are easily found here.
Note: This lot trait cannot be removed from or added to lots. It is a fixed trait on certain lots in Sulani, much like the Historical lot trait on certain apartments in the City Living expansion.
Clothing Optional – This lot embraces an open, natural lifestyle empowering visitors to shed strict material conventions and prudish societal moors… also their clothes.
Note: This lot trait cannot be applied to residential lots or Vet Clinics (if the player owns the Cats & Dogs expansion). This lot trait is a free addition to the base game!
Island Spirits – Ancient Island spirits inhabit this lot, visiting frequently. How will Sims choose to interact with them?
Off-the-Grid – This lot isn’t connected to electricity or plumbing (meaning no utility bills either). Talk about natural living!
Note:This lot trait is a free addition to the base game!
Volcanic Activity – This lot is near an active volcano! Beware of earthquakes, steam vents, and occasional lava bombs.
Which lot trait are you most excited to play with?Let us know in the comments or come chat with us on social media!
The Sims 4 Island Living adds new traits for your Sims so they can truly get the most out of everything the beautiful world of Sulani has to offer. Not only are there two new traits for CAS and a new aspiration reward trait, but for the first time, reward traits have been added to careers! The new Conservationist career has two new traits; one for each career branch. Maxing out the Conservationist career in either branch will earn your Sim a new trait!
CAS Traits
Sims with the Child of the Islands trait have a special relationship with Sulani and care very deeply about the island’s well being. Sims with this trait can speak with the spirits of the islands and either gain their favour or disapproval.
Sims with the Child of the Ocean trait feel more at home in the water than they do on land. They will autonomously choose water activities whenever there are any available nearby. Sims with this trait will not enjoy fishing or eating seafood. Fish are friends, not food!
Aspiration Reward Trait
Exactly as the name suggests, Sims with the Laid-Back trait are just too chill to get stressed out about anything. They’ll never feel tense again. To earn this trait, have your Sim complete the new Beach Life aspiration that comes with The Sims 4 Island Living.
Sims with the Natural Speaker trait are naturally charismatic and have no trouble whatsoever convincing other Sims to take a more proactive role in protecting the environment! To earn the Natural Speaker trait, have your Sim reach the top of the new Conservationist career in the Environmental Manager branch.
Sims who are Master of the Sea were born to navigate the ocean! They make friends with mermaids and dolphins faster and can get around on the water with ease. To earn this trait, have your Sim reach the top of the new Conservationist career in the Marine Biologist branch.
The Sims 4 Island Living introduces a brand new aspiration called Beach Life. The Beach Life aspiration can be found in the Location category. Like all other Location aspirations, choosing the Beach Life aspiration for your Sim will give them the Home Turf bonus trait.
Sims with the Beach Life aspiration don’t want to bother with all the stress and aggravation of the daily rat race. The hustle and bustle of everyday life isn’t for them. Instead, Sims with this aspiration want to kick back, relax, and let life unfold at its own easy pace. Why worry when you can be happy, instead?
Beach Life Aspiration Goals
1. Tourist
Get a Suntan
Earn Gold on a Kava Party
Eat a Coconut
2. Sand-Sifter
Find Things Beachcombing
Grill, Barbecue, or Roast Food
3. Leisurely Local
Explore the Beach Cave
Discover Buried Treasure
4. Beach Fixture
Doze-Off while Relaxing in Lounge Chair or Float Lounger
After completing the Beach Life aspiration, your Sim will be rewarded with the Laid-Back aspiration reward trait. For more information on the Laid-Back trait, check out our article, The Sims 4 Island Living: New Sim Traits!
Are your Sims ready to hit the beach with this new aspiration? Tell us all about your Beach Life experiences in the comments or come chat with us on social media!
The Sims 4 Island Living sees one full and three part-time careers added to the game with the Conversationist career taking the place as a full-time career.
As with any career, your Sim can become a Conservationist simply by sitting down at a laptop/computer, using their cell phone or by the job tab on the user interface.
Once you have joined the career you will be greeted with a pop up asking you if you wish to start the first Work From Home Assignment. You can either start it right away or hold off and do it at a time that suits your Sim better. Just make sure it is completed before your next shift.
When it is time for your first shift you will be presented with another small pop up which asks you if you want your Sim to Go To Work, Work from Home or Take Paid Time Off (PTO). The choice is up to you. If you choose to Go To Work or Work From Home you will still be working towards your Sims next promotion. If you choose to Take PTO your Sim can go about their day however they please.
Note: If you are not sure what your Sims work from home assignment is or what you need to do you, can head to the Career panel and there will be a section for Work From Home Assignments. Hover over the required task and it will let you know how to complete it.
Conservationist Career: Level 1-6
[table id=66 /]
Important: When you first start the conservationist career you will be asked to complete a Work From Home Assignment as a task towards your Sims promotion. You will find it under the Career tab. You will not have another Work From Home Assignment unless you choose for your Sim to work from home.
Environmental Manager Pathway: level 7-10
[table id=67 /]
Marine Biologist Pathway: Level 7-10
[table id=68 /]
Career Traits:
The Conservationist career has the possibility for your Sim to gain one of two reward traits once you hit the maximum level in a career pathway. There is one for each of the two career pathways and it is possible to gain both.
Natural Speaker (from the Environmental Manager pathway) – Sims that are Natural Speakers have been empowered by nature with instinctive charisma. Being friendly is second nature. These Sims find it easy to Enthuse and Spread Awareness of their cause to other Sims and find that their grant applications tend to get accepted.
Master of the Sea (from the Marine Biologist pathway) – A Master of the Seas becomes friends with dolphins and mermaids faster, and can maneuver around the ocean much more easily.
The Conservationist career is the perfect career for your Sims if they love being outside and enjoy Island life. It is full of detail and will get you exploring all over the different Islands and the ocean surrounding Sulani.
Let us know what you think of the new Conservationist career that comes with The Sims 4 Island Living expansion pack below in the comments.
Ahhhh, Sulani! Where the waters are warm and clear, the kava is flowing, and the locals are ready to give you a warm welcome to their island. Speaking of the locals, you’ll want to get to know them, because the inhabitants of Sulani aren’t your typical run-of-the-mill premade Sims. On Sulani, the people value community and building close-knit relationships. That means the people of Sulani will often make your business their business. From giving you a warm island welcome when you arrive, to helping you out with tasks around the island, to running into your home to help put out a fire, it pays to get to know your neighbours here.

Household Description
Coming to Sulani for inspiration Leila didn’t expect to fall in love so deeply with the islands. And it wasn’t just the scenery that she fell for, but also for Oliana and her son Tane that welcomed her so easily into their family. The three are now an inseparable trio that call Sulani their home enjoying the sand and ocean at their own pace.

Household Notes
The Ngata household lives at Reef Finery in the Lani St. Taz district of Sulani.
The Ngata household is the first premade household in The Sims 4 to feature an openly lesbian couple.
Even though Oliana and Leila are married, they have different surnames. It appears Leila did not change her surname when she married Oliana.
Leila is featured in the official reveal trailer. Oliana and Tane can both be spotted briefly in the background of the trailer as well.
Curiously, there is nothing in the Ngatas’ home that match the interests of the Sims living there. There is no workout equipment for Oliana, no easel or artwork for Leila, and no mentally stimulating activities for Tane.
SimGuruJill has been giving players an insight into a variety of concept art from The Sims 4 Island Living over on Twitter. Take a look below and let us know what you think.
Hi Simmers, are you as excited as I am for The Sims 4 Island Living’s release coming up on June 21st? Working on this pack was such a blast. We had crazy WOW moments along every step of the way.
That Hair…
We knew early on, going in to this pack that we wanted to seize the opportunity to make some really gorgeous beachy hairdos. Our Concept and CAS Art teams made some of my favorite hairs yet. THOSE CURLS! And that mohawk looks good on seriously everybody. pic.twitter.com/08B1pL1pZS
Upscale Residential Room View
To get an understanding of objects and room layouts in context, our Art Team generally works in full room views in the early phases of concept to narrow down their favorite pieces before going to fully rendered concept art. Here’s an early room view! pic.twitter.com/IOAVlKqfzI
Sketch Phase of Objects
Here are a few early sketchy examples of the brainstorming the Concept Team did before ultimately narrowing in on the final designs to build. I just love that tub. How long can wooden tubs last, anyway? That wood must have a really good finish on it. pic.twitter.com/ASdgm2lxQC
Swim Styles
My personal favorite: Here’s a very early look at a first pass of the different swim styles! My heart skipped a beat the first time I saw this. It really illustrates the speed and style benefits between having high fitness skill or being a Mermaid. Yay Animators! pic.twitter.com/9MZRP9uMrM
And Last But Not Least
That beautiful ocean. Here’s an early visual target concept example of how we wanted our ocean water to look. Between the WOW new shader our engineers made and the lovely job our environment team did perfecting the look, the final ocean in game just sings! pic.twitter.com/pvOan7YycL
With The Sims 4 Island Living Expansion Pack coming in just a few days The Sims Team has released a brand new update for the base game to help prepare for the new pack.
One thing that hasn’t been mentioned in the patch notes is the fact that you can now go into some of the world waters in The Sims 4! That’s right – specific worlds now let you go right into the water!
There are certain worlds that allow you to get knee-deep into the water, such as the Magnolia Blossom Neighborhood shown above.
The neighborhood Magnolia Promenade from The Sims 4 Get to Work allows you to go all the way in into this specific area:
…while some areas only let you soak your feet in:

Considering that the latest update had to update all of the World files to help prepare for The Sims 4 Island Living could we expect ocean / lake swimming in other worlds as well sometime in the future? Time will tell!
The Sims 4 has just released a brand new update for PC / Mac players adding a ton of new content including Pride Items, Lounge Chairs, New Pool & Fishing Gameplay and more! We went deeper into the latest update in the video above covering all of the new additions. Check it out!
