The Sims 4 Island Living: Information About New Weather Types

SimGuruMorgan has given us a little insight over on Twitter into the weather that the island’s of Sulani will experience when you play alongside with the Seasons expansion pack.

Firstly and what will be most noticeable is the new tropical monsoons. These will occur in late summer through to late fall and will be intense but short-lived.

SimGuruMorgan then went into more detail about the upcoming new weather.

The Sims 4 Island Living: Information About New Weather Types

Since this article was originally posted, SimGuruGeorge has since shared a couple of small teasers of what the weather of Sulani is like including, a look at the start of a Monsoon.

Thank you, Designer Geoff, SimGuruMorgan and SimGuruGeorge for sharing this information with us. We can’t wait to experience the new weather when we travel to Sulani!

The Sims 4: Behind the Scenes of The Sims 4 Island Living

Take a behind the scenes look of the upcoming The Sims 4 Island Living with a brand new official blog post from The Sims team.

via EA.com

Alright, aspiring artists, style stalkers, and seasoned fans, this one’s for you. We’ve excitedly announced The Sims™ 4 Island Living Expansion Pack*, and we’re just as excited about all the hard work that has gone into this pack. So, we asked Maxis producer Jill Johnson and art director Stephen Edwards to give us some insight on how the team went about creating this tropical island paradise.

How does the overall art concept and style contribute to the Island Living pack?

The environment, ocean, people, charming furniture, and architecture pieces do so much to immerse you in the relaxed vibe of this pack. You can almost feel the fresh cool water on your skin, you can hear the whoosh of the waves on the shore, and sense the warmth of the sun around you. The art team added extra TLC to make the islands feel special and distinct from any other world we’ve made to-date. From gorgeous sunsets and vibrant coral to the adorable sea turtles you may catch swimming around, in Sulani, you are given a whole new way of life for your Sims.

How did you come up with ideas for clothing concepts?

We usually go broad at the start and pull from various sources, to see what resonates. Street styles are valuable to get a feel of a specific look or trend. High street designs and runway collections can give an insight into how other designers have approached a certain theme. But, for this pack, we specifically wanted to promote the idea of local artisans/designers who created the décor and clothing. With that in mind, the approach was less about interpretation of existing styles and more about deconstructing cultural looks, updating traditional styles, and looking to art and nature for shape, patterns, texture, and color.

The Sims 4: Behind the Scenes of The Sims 4 Island Living
From where did you draw inspiration for the Island Living environment?

The stunning emerald and turquoise water around the coral reefs of the South Pacific/Polynesia were a huge influence on the pack setting. So, it made sense to draw on the vibrant flora and fauna of that region to support the theme. Luckily, The Sims 4 style allows us to aim for a sense of place that is familiar, but not specific, so there is always a little wiggle room when we draw reference. For example, the shipwreck was to read as a family-owned fishing boat that ran aground and was abandoned, rather than imply something invasive or corporate like a tanker. The artist pulled features from several boats, then used shipwreck references to inform the wear and tear of the materials. Likewise, we came across references of a waterfall in northern Europe that we liked the look of and, through concept, skewed it toward our theme. We also wanted to make sure we were incorporating a sense of familiarity and home for anyone who’s spent time living in the South Pacific/Polynesian islands, so we reached out to an internal group for suggestions. One of our favorite household knick-knacks that came from that discussion was the giant wooden spoon and fork for your kitchen!

The Sims 4: Behind the Scenes of The Sims 4 Island Living

The Sims 4: Behind the Scenes of The Sims 4 Island Living
What about the unique patterns on boats, tools, and clothes?

For the majority of patterns, we took inspiration from region specific art and textile prints, then interpreted them for the Sims style. One artist spent time breaking down shapes, motifs, and graphical elements, then built a library of patterns for others to pull from. Again, we wanted to reflect the community’s affinity for island culture, so it felt natural to reference traditional ocean life, plants, and flowers in the patterns.

The Sims 4: Behind the Scenes of The Sims 4 Island LivingWhat was a challenge you faced during the creation of the concept art?

Balancing the amount of content with the vision you are trying to create is always tricky. For this pack, we had to create two furniture styles: an upscale resort theme for the residential island development and a more crafted, local flavor for the community island. Having each room specifically designed was just not possible in our time frame, so we decided to lean into using material and color to unify both styles.

Tell us about a “high-five” moment during the creation of the concept art.

Practically every asset has a high-five or mini hurrah during its design phase, where even a slight change in detail or direction can elevate it. Pieces that inspire storytelling are very rewarding to work through. Like the tiki bar, where its construction style, deco pieces, and material treatment are all chosen to describe a particular narrative. The best sigh of relief is when you bring the content back together and (hopefully!) see that the look is cohesive and captures the spirit of the pack.

The Sims 4: Behind the Scenes of The Sims 4 Island LivingWhat part of Island Living are you most excited for players to see and interact with?

I am most excited for players to see not only how gorgeous our ocean looks, but for them to also discover all the fun activities and delights it has to offer. It’s not just a massive body of water for splashing around. We’ve added new swim styles, sea life to interact with, and little surprises for your Sims to encounter, like getting slimed or getting a cramp while swimming. On very rare occasions, you might even see a shark!

Hope you enjoyed this behind-the-scenes look, Simmers! The Sims 4 Island Living will be available for PC and Mac on June 21, 2019 and for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on July 21, 2019. The Sims 4 Island Living: SimGuru Twitter Roundup

With the embargo now lifted on the content captured by EA Game Changers at EA PLAY over the weekend, some of the SimGurus has taken to Twitter to share some more details about what is to come as well as teasing us with screenshots and gifs ahead of The Sims 4 Island Living’s release.

Here’s a roundup of some of the latest Tweets from the SimGurus, starting with SimGuruMorgan.

SimGuruMorgan gave us some more information in regards to how custom content works with sunbathing and tan lines.  It is possible for custom content to work with the new feature providing that it is set up correctly.

You can read a more over on The Sims Forum where SimGuruMorgan goes into more detail. You can find the forum post here.

SimGuruMorgan also gave us a sneak peek at some bears turning up at a clothing optional bar in Sulani.

Note: Clothing Optional is a new base game lot trait that is coming in the patch for The Sims 4 Island Living.

In response to Cinderellimouse’s Tweet about the meteors and the island’s volcano, SimGuruMorgan revealed that the Volcanic Activity trait can be applied to any lot. Combing it with other lot traits can and would cause chaos for the Sims that live there.

SimGuruGeorge, however, has been teasing us with some gifs of the beautiful world of Sulani.

SimGuruFrost teased us a few days ago with a gif of an adorable toddler having fun playing in the water.

SimGuruNinja, on the other hand, has shared a picture of his Sim playing with a seashell.

SimGuruNinja also teased that Island Living and Get Together will be getting a new mermaids club filter by sharing a screenshot of the Merfolk Club.

We also got a sneaky look at how Mermaids can work with The Sims 4 Vampires Game Pack and honestly we are just a little bit scared right now!

SimGuruChowder gave us an insight into some of the new sealife we will see in The Sims 4 Island Living other than just Dolphins.

But what else have we found out from the SimGurus?

  • SimGuruNinja revealed that the Island Radio has some big Hawaiian vibes
  • SimGuruFrost confirmed that Sims can be turned into Mermaids by using kelp that you find around Sulani. He also confirmed that young mermaid Sims wouldn’t grow their tails until they become a Teen.
  • SimGuruDuke clarified that players on older 32-bit Windows Systems & Non-metal Mac Systems will be able to experience The Sims 4 Island Living. More information about the upcoming Legacy update will follow soon.
  • SimGuruDuke also talked about how The Sims 4 Island Living does have seasons for players with the Seasons expansion pack but not to expect snow during the winter just a lot of rain.
  • SimGuruMorgan also followed up SimGuruDuke’s response stating that there will be a new weather type coming with The Sims 4 Island Living.
  • SimGuruLyndsay confirmed that ocean swimming is currently only available to Sulani at this time.

Of course in the true spirit of any upcoming pack, you’ll notice that a lot of the SimGurus have updated their profile pictures and Twitter names with a tropical Island vibe too!

Don’t forget to let us know what you are most excited for in the upcoming The Sims 4 Island Living expansion pack.

The Sims 4 Legacy Update Has Been Postponed

6

A few months ago, The Sims team announced that support for older 32-bit Windows systems and Non-metal Mac systems would be coming to an end this June. This meant that players with these older systems would only be able to play up to The Sims 4 StrangerVille game pack. Anything released after The Sims 4 StrangerVille would not be playable for users with the older systems. Instead, players would move over to, for free, The Sims 4 Legacy Edition.

You can read the full announcement regarding these changes and all the details here.

However, SimGuruDuke revealed on Twitter that The Sims 4 Legacy Update has infact been postponed meaning that players running The Sims 4 on the older systems will be able to experience The Sims 4 Island Living when it is released later this month.

The Sims 4 Legacy Update Has Been Postponed

Although The Sims 4 Legacy update will be rolling out at some point in the near future, this is great news for those who were unsure if they would be able to play The Sims 4 Island Living or not.

When more details of The Sims 4 Legacy Update are released we will be sure to update you with everything that you need to know.

The Sims 4 Island Living: 10+ Details You Might Have Missed

DISCLAIMER

Any unconfirmed Island Living content discussed in this article is pure speculation. The author of this article is merely speculating on what MIGHT be coming based on subtle details spotted in the trailer and livestream.

@SimGuruLyndsay and @SimGuruDuke sure did spoil us with lots of new information about the upcoming Island Living expansion at EA Play last weekend. In fact, there was so much new information that some of the smaller details may have gone unnoticed in all of the excitement.

Here’s everything you might have missed watching the trailer and livestream the first time around!

New Tattoos

Simmers asked and Gurus delivered! There were at least four new tattoos I spotted while going over the contents of the livestream and trailer again. Since Island Living is heavily inspired by Polynesian culture, new tattoos make a lot of sense. In the above screenshots, a masculine Sim is pictured with an elaborate thigh tattoo, along with an armband tattoo and a full sleeve that extends onto the shoulder and chest. A feminine Sim is spotted with a palm leaf tattoo design on her hip that’s poking out from a skirt.

Beach Towels

The Sims 4 Island Living: 10+ Details You Might Have Missed

You probably noticed the sunbathers in the trailer, but did you notice the colourful beach towels they were lying on? It’s unclear whether these function as decorative rugs that Sims can suntan on top of, or whether they are functional objects with a suntanning interaction, but whatever the case, your Sims will be able to soak up some sun on a new beach towel that comes in a variety of fun and vibrant colours and patterns.

PSST! Notice the leg tattoo on the second Sim from the left! This could be part of the thigh tattoo pictured above or it could be a fifth new tattoo!

Water Loungers

The Sims 4 Island Living: 10+ Details You Might Have Missed

Lounge chairs were a hot topic of discussion during the livestream and for good reason; Simmers have been asking for lounge chairs for years. Did you happen to catch a glimpse of this Sim relaxing in the ocean on this inflatable water lounger, though? It looks like our Sims will be able to stretch out and chill both on land and in the open ocean. We just hope these water loungers can be used in pools, too!

Crystal Clear Water

The Sims 4 Island Living: 10+ Details You Might Have Missed

I’m sure you noticed this to some degree during the trailer, but can we just stop to appreciate this crystal clear water? Never in The Sims 4 have we been able to see all the way to the bottom of a body of water as clearly as if it was a chlorinated pool. Being able to see fish swimming below the water’s surface and take in the sights of ocean plant life is just one of those small details that have a big impact on our immersive virtual experience.

Buoys

The Sims 4 Island Living: 10+ Details You Might Have Missed

Did anyone catch these orange buoys floating in the middle of the ocean? At first glance, they look purely decorative, but after seeing the dolphin and this Sim playing with each other right next to one, it could be possible that these buoys are markers for special lots out in the water or designated areas where your Sims can explore off shore. I guess we’ll just have to wait until June 21st to find out for sure.

A Variety of Sand Sculptures

Sandcastles were pretty hard to miss, but take a closer look; there are at least three different sand sculpture designs pictured in the above screenshots. There is a traditional sand castle in the background of the second image, as well as a shark design and a gnome design featured in the first image. It’s nice to know that our Sims will be able to get creative with their sand designs. Perhaps it’s even tied into a skill? Only time will tell.

New Vendors

You might have missed it, but there were several points in the trailer where new vendor stalls were pictured in the background. In the first screenshot, it looks like there’s a closed stall in the distance behind the lifeguard. This stall doesn’t have a sign on top of it advertising food, so perhaps it’s a beach supply shop? The vendor in the 2nd and 4th images has what looks like calendars and postcards pinned up on the wall. This might be a souvenir shop. Even though Sulani is a residential world, it still has a strong vacation vibe, so a souvenir shop would fit right in. The vendor in the 3rd image looks like a grocer’s stall. Perhaps our Sims will be able to buy fresh tropical produce for recipes here.

PSST! Check out the fire dancer in the second image! Fire dancing was introduced to The Sims 4 with Get Together, but it looks like Simmers could be getting fire dancing with Island Living, too.

Magical Relics???

The Sims 4 Island Living: 10+ Details You Might Have Missed

This one might be going out on a limb, but I couldn’t help but notice the statue behind the elemental spirit in this screenshot. It could just be decor, but it looks rather similar to some of the relics from Jungle Adventure, which have mystical powers that can bless or curse your Sims. Maybe some of the objects on Sulani have mystical secrets of their own…

Stilted Foundations

If you’re a pro builder, you would have spotted this right away, but for the rest of us, a closer look at the trailer reveals a new foundation type (and a new weathered roof pattern). Houses can now be built on stilts both on land and in the water. We’re not yet sure about the exact mechanics of this new feature, but these are definitely usable lots that our Sims can travel to.

Ladders

The Sims 4 Island Living: 10+ Details You Might Have Missed

Another popular request has finally made its way into the game. Ladders! In the above image, you can clearly see a ladder going into the water right behind the diving Sim. On that note, it’s also very cool that our Sims can dive right into the open water from their back deck. Talk about living the island lifestyle!

Multiple Islands?

The Sims 4™ Island Living Official Reveal Trailer 008

This panoramic view of Sulani is absolutely breathtaking, but notice all the smaller islands around the main island of Sulani. The rockier formations in the water around Sulani don’t look like routable terrain our Sims can walk on, but the beachy island in the centre looks like it might have a buildable lot on it. A boat can also be seen traveling between the islands on the right. We already know our Sims will be able to sail around on their own boats, so the boat pictured here could indicate that our Sims will be able to treat the water around the island as routable common space.

The YouTube channel Let’s Play Games Aliyah Style has shared some first look footage at some of the features in the recently announced The Sims 4 Island Living expansion pack. The new content is currently playable alongside side existing content from The Sims 4 Base Game at EA PLAY this weekend.

The thirteen-minute video gives us a quick glimpse at some of the upcoming additions to Create A Sim as well as the first look at some gameplay from the pack it’s self. You may also spot some familiar faces during the video too!

Here are a few of the features that were spotted during the video

  • New Trait Randomizer (it is unclear if this feature is specific to The Sims 4 Island Living or if it will be part of the Base Game)
  • New Location Aspiration
  • New Traits – Child of the Ocean and Child of the Island
  • New Lot Traits – Including an Off-the-Grid lot trait

Of course, there were a few more things that could be seen during the video.

First up is an overview of Sulani. The new world contains three new neighborhoods and has approximately twelve lots which look to be a mixture of residential and community although it is hard to tell exactly.

The Sims Official Blog: The Sims 4 Island Living is Coming Ashore

The Sims 4: Island Living was officially announced as the next expansion pack at EA Play today. The Sims Team has shared a new blog post with us, highlighting some key features of the new expansion and what we can expect to see in the pack when it launches.

The Sims Official Blog: The Sims 4 Island Living is Coming Ashore

From EA.com:

The SimsTM 4 Island Living* is coming for PC, Mac, Xbox One, and PlayStation®4! Sand, sun, and endless fun await as your Sims make their own paradise on Sulani, where the sunshine is bright, and the nights are totally chill.

When Can You Start Your Island Life?

While weighing out whether to flip for traditional island events, catch some rays, become besties with a dolphin, lounge out in the cool water, or slip on some local clothing (our suggestion: all of the above), don’t forget to remember these important dates. The Sims 4 Island Living launches on PC and Mac on June 21 and on Xbox One and PS4 July 16. That’s right, we’re announcing the launch dates for all, right now! Cause Island Living is cool like that.

What Will You Find on the Island?

Glad you asked! First, though, no matter what you do, remember to relax a little, okay? When you’re living in Sulani, the vibe is laid back. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot of fun in the sun to be had. Check out some of the relaxing activities to enjoy (in a relaxed manner):

  • Wave Away: Like getting out on the crystal-clear water? Set sail in your island canoe, swim to your heart’s content, and explore the surf on an Aqua-Zip. When you need a beach break, build a spectacular sandcastle or lounge out and catch some rays. You might even meet a mermaid!
  • Choose a Cool Job: Sure, relaxing is, well, relaxing! But helping ensure the island stays pristine and making a positive impact is another level of awesome. Pitch in by becoming a Conservationist, cleaning up the beaches, and watching your Sims’ impact bloom all over Sulani’s most untouched island. Your Sims can also try a part-time job as a Diver, a Lifeguard, or a Fisherman. Or you can just wing it and pick up the occasional Odd Job! Find a way to make money that best suits your Sim’s laid-back lifestyle.
  • Live Like a Local: Sulani traditions define the island, and your Sims wouldn’t reach real island heights if they didn’t experience as many as possible. Immerse Sims in their newfound lifestyle by bonding with neighbors at the fiery Island Celebration, taking part in local culture, tasting tropical delicacies, and pleasing ancient spirits from the island.
  • Dress the Part: You don’t want Sims to be sweating with the big sun beating down, so dress them in tropical outfits perfect for the beach, diving deep, or frolicking in the ocean. Just watch out for those tan lines! You can also decorate their very own rustic paradise with home objects or unwind at the tiki bar.

Everything is chill (except for the occasional lava bomb) when it’s Island Living – so make sure those release dates don’t slip your mind with all that relaxing!
