Let’s Make Hidden Debug Shells into Functional Stables!

Remember that bridge your horses can’t go to? Fixed it.

It’s no secret that the SimGurus LOVE making the best debug items for every new pack. Just look at the new debug menu from The Sims 4 Horse Ranch, especially this covered bridge you’ll see often in the world of Chestnut Ridge. The catch? Sims can’t use them. Bummer. But what if we turn these debug shells into functional stables?

DS1
Horses aren’t even allowed to go here!

With this workaround, you can even use them in your builds! Whether you want to save Simoleons, do the no walls challenge, or just add something interesting to your lot, simply follow any of these build hacks.

Note: Before doing anything, make sure that bb.moveobjects is on.

Hack #1: Using a Basement

First of all, we have to access the hidden debug menu. Type in Ctrl+Shift+C to open the cheat bar. Then, type and enter bb.showhiddenobjects and bb.showliveeditobjects consecutively. Hit Ctrl+Shift+C again to close the cheat bar.

DS2

Go to the items search bar and type in **DEBUG** to open the debug menu. To make the search easier, toggle the filter for Horse Ranch expansion pack and look for this item.

Great! Now that we have this thing, build a room just as big as the item. Adjust the level of the whole room by clicking on it and sliding up the white arrow 1 time.

Then, remove the walls either by clicking on each wall and selecting Remove Wall or using the sledgehammer tool.

Now to the important step: build a basement directly below this room. Place the debug item on the floor below. With Ctrl+9, elevate the item several times until it reaches the top floor again while it’s placed on the basement. You may need a few adjustments before it’s level with the above floor.

Once you’re satisfied with the item’s placement, delete the room below by sliding the white arrows to minimize the room. DON’T just click on the room and hit delete! We don’t want the debug object to be deleted with it.

Go back to the upper floor and viola! That entire space is functional. You can fit in 2 sets of hay beds and feeders here without any trouble.

The Sims 4 Horse Ranch Stable Hack

Hack #2: Using a Second Floor

If you don’t like the adding a basement to your lot, try making a 2nd floor. Do this by creating a 1-tile room on the 1st floor then adding another room on top of it.

Delete the room on the 1st floor. Using the white arrow slider in the middle, drag the entire room downwards until it is levelled with the floor of the debug item.

When you’re satisfied with its height, use the white arrows around the room to resize it to be as big as the debug item. Like above, remove all four walls of the room.

Note: If you want to adjust the debug item, make sure that it’s placed on the ground floor and NOT on the 2nd floor so the space can still be functional.

The last step is to add stairs on either end. Since this hack uses stairs (which aren’t accessible for horses), it’s best to convert this space intended for Sims like a restaurant or a bar to dance the cowpoke.

DS11

Extra Hack: Other Debug Items

If you’ve read the previous sections, you’ll observe that the key here is to add the debug item on a different floor or else the space won’t be usable. Simple enough, right? So try it on other objects from debug…or even this sized up dollhouse barn if you ever want that.

Don’t worry about rain or roofing problems! When you create a room, it automatically adds a ceiling to cover the room. If you also own Seasons, do note that this room is like a porch and is still outdoors.

The Sims 4 Horse Breeding for Fun and Profit!

Breed adorable foals as a hobby or as a lucrative business!

Sims 4 horse breeding

One of the biggest features of the new Horse Ranch expansion is Sims 4 horse breeding! Sims can make a very good living breeding and selling trained competition horses with impressive pedigrees. In fact, horse sales are such a big focus that all horses have a monetary value attached to them that increases based on skills, certain traits, and competition wins. Breeding your champion horses and selling their highly valuable offspring will make your Sims wealthy in no time!

We’ll walk you through everything you need to know about breeding top quality horses!

Sims 4 Horse Breeding Guide

There’s a lot to think about when breeding horses, especially if you’re breeding for profit. You’ll need to take into account the dam and sire’s traits, skills, and competition history when pairing up horses for breeding in order to get more valuable foals. Read on to learn how to be a successful horse breeder!

Mating a Mare and a Stallion

2023 07 26 11 29 26 751 ellanora by ellcrze

In order to start Sims 4 horse breeding, you first need a mare and a stallion. Click on either your mare or stallion and under Friendly interactions, select Encourage To > Encourage to Breed With and select the other horse.

If the breeding is successful, you’ll see them touch their muzzles and hearts swirl around them. Don’t be discouraged if your horses don’t breed on the first try; just keep building your bond with both horses and give them more time to get to know each other. Horses are highly social animals and will autonomously interact with each other often.

Sims 4 horse breeding

After a successful Sims 4 horse breeding attempt, it will take several in-game hours before you’ll know if your mare is expecting a foal or not. If she is pregnant, you’ll get a notification about it.

Pregnant Mares

2023 07 26 12 01 00 541 ellanora by ellcrze
A pregnant mare

While your mare is pregnant, you won’t be able to ride her or train with her on jumps or barrels. She also won’t be eligible to enter any equestrian competitions. Make sure she’s comfortable and happy during her pregnancy by brushing her, interacting with her, keeping her feed bin full and her stall clean like you would normally do.

Mares are pregnant for about three in-game days. You’ll see her belly slowly expand over those three days as her foal grows. Sometime on day three, your mare will go into labour. Just like with Sim labours, this process can take a few hours. Your mare will be very uncomfortable while she’s in labour but your Sim can help soothe her. There is a new social interaction on your mare during labour called Soothe Horse in Labour.

Sims 4 horse breeding

When your mare gives birth, her foal will appear beside her and you’ll be prompted to give the new colt or filly a name! The foal will inherit one random trait from its dam and one from its sire. It will also possess a third base trait of its own. This is why taking your horses’ traits into account for Sims 4 horse breeding is important if you want a good chance of getting foals with a specific type of personality!

2023 07 26 12 21 00 517 ellanora by ellcrze

As for the foal’s appearance, its body shape and coat colouring appear to be 50/50. Our filly had her dam’s coat colouring and her sire’s body build. There was no mixing of coat colours or patterns.

Foal Care

Foals are adorably clumsy and unsteady on their hooves when they’re first born but they actually aren’t a lot of work to keep healthy and happy. They get a lot of care from their dam, who nurses and grooms them to keep them fed and clean but Sims can also bottle feed and brush their foals. Foals can be trained to eat hay by hand-feeding them prairie grass or calling them to eat from a patch of prairie grass or a feed bin.

Sims 4 horse breeding
A filly nursing from her dam

However, this doesn’t mean you can neglect your foal! Foals need to learn how to interact with Sims and the earlier you start working on their Temperament skill with them, the better. A big part of Sims 4 horse breeding is making sure your foals grow into adult horses with the Well Mannered Foal trait. A foal only gains this reward trait when they age up if they have high Temperament skill. This trait is highly coveted for breeders because it gives the horse a boost in all skills.

Foals cannot be ridden or enter equestrian competitions. You’ll have to wait for them to grow up to start building the Agility, Jumping, and Endurance skills with them. You can see how many days away your foal is from aging up by hovering over their portrait in your Sim’s relationship panel.

Breedable Traits

If you’re going to be delving into Sims 4 horse breeding for profit, you’ll need a good understanding of how to breed certain traits into your foals to increase their value. The benefit of Sims 4 horse breeding is that there are certain traits a horse can only get by being bred and raised from a foal.

2023 07 26 12 16 04 033 ellanora by ellcrze

In addition to their three base traits they’ll get when they’re born (which is partially influenced by their dam and sire’s base traits), foals can be born with additional traits called breedable traits. Breedable traits are traits that can only be acquired through Sims 4 horse breeding. Check out our Horse Traits Guide for a full breakdown of all horse traits, but here’s a summary of breedable traits.

  • Playful: Foals can sometimes be born with the Playful trait, which means they love to play with toys and Sims.
  • Curious: Foals can sometimes be born with the Curious trait, which makes them more likely to investigate many different objects. They’ll also love using jumps and barrels when they grow up.
  • Champion Genes: You’ll only breed foals with Champion Genes if their dam or sire has the Champion Horse trait. Gain the Champion Horse trait by winning 20 equestrian competitions in order to start breeding foals with Champion Genes. Both traits greatly increase the horse’s value and boost all skill gain.
  • Well Mannered Foal: Foals are not born with this trait but they can age up with this trait if your Sim spent a lot of time building their Temperament skill as a foal. This trait boosts all skill gain.

Horse Value

Players who really want to get into Sims 4 horse breeding as a lucrative business will need to understand how to increase the value of their horses. The horse value system is quite detailed so this portion of our guide may undergo further changes as we learn more about it but here’s what we’ve gathered about horse value so far!

Horses start with a base value of $1,000. This base value increases based on certain factors. If you want to make the most of Sims 4 horse breeding, you’ll want to increase that base value as much as possible so you can sell the horses you breed at a higher profit. You accomplish this by being selective about the horses you choose to breed together.

Sims 4 horse breeding

Ideally, these are the factors you want to consider heavily with Sims 4 horse breeding:

  • Pick a dam and a sire with traits that are favourable for competitions to increase your odds of getting a foal with those same traits. Having good base traits will help them build certain skills faster and do better in competitions.
  • If possible, don’t breed horses that do not have the Champion Horse trait. You only want to be breeding the best of the best to get quality foals with the Champion Genes trait. These traits have a direct impact on a horse’s monetary value.
  • The more competitions your horses have won, the more valuable they become (and by extension, the more valuable their foals will be). So don’t retire your horses after 20 competitions to get the Champion Horse trait. Continuing to win competitions seems to further drive up the value of the horse.
  • You can sell foals but we don’t recommend doing this. You’ll fetch a higher price if you raise your foal to an adult and get some competition wins on their record, first.
  • In short, highly skilled horses with lots of competition wins and good traits will have more valuable foals!

Sims 4 horse breeding can really make your Sims obscenely wealthy. The most valuable premade horse in the game is Duke Gooseman, valued at $17,400 but we’ve seen some players’ horses valued for up to a whopping $45,000!

Keeping Track of Sims 4 Horse Skills

2023 07 20 15 00 43 550 ellanora by ellcrze

Since horses are not controllable, you won’t be able to click on them to view their skills in the info panels like you can with Sims, but don’t worry! You can still keep track of your horse’s skill progress. Just click on your horse in your Sim’s relationship panel and view their profile. Your horse’s profile will display all their basic information, like their traits and monetary value. It also displays their skill information and their competition history.

Temperament Skill

The Temperament skill is the most important skill for any horse to have, whether they’re just a family pet used for trail riding or a highly-trained competition horse. Temperament dictates how well your horse behaves for their riders, as well as how they behave when interacting with both Sims and other animals. It is also a required skill for the Show Jumping and Western Pleasure competitions.

sims 4 horse skills

Horses with high Temperament skill are less likely to buck riders off their backs and more likely to have positive interactions with both Sims and animals. This makes it a great skill for horses with traits like Defiant and Aggressive to build because their Temperament skill can help balance out bad behaviour from those traits.

To build this skill, simply spend time interacting with your horse or pay a fee to send your horse for training through the community board. Both foals and adult horses can build the Temperament skill. If you have a foal, it’s best to work on their Temperament skill as much as you can before they grow up. Foals with high Temperament skill grow up with the Well-Mannered Foal reward trait which gives them a skill boost in all the other skills.

  • Umber and Sienna’s parents seem to have passed recently because the siblings have a grief-related sentiment, which implies that they are still actively grieving for their parents.
  • While it’s not immediately clear why Wren and Marissa dislike each other, their sentiments suggest that Wren did something to Marissa he feels guilty about. He may want to try and make it up to her.
  • Juniper is best friends with her sister-in-law, Sienna.

Sims 4 Horse Ranch Premades: Household Notes:
  • Roberto is a special NPC in the Horse Ranch expansion. He does not live in a home in the world and he doesn’t appear in the Household Management menu. He can only be played through using debug cheats to add him to your household.
  • Roberto’s main function as an NPC is to purchase nectar from your Sims at a premium rate. He will periodically show up in the New Appaloosa neighbourhood of Chestnut Ridge and offer to buy any nectar your Sims want to sell at a higher than usual price.
  • Roberto seems to be quite the popular fellow in Chestnut Ridge. He’s friends with everyone in town except for Don Gooseman, whom he doesn’t know, and Dani Davila, whom he dislikes. His dislike of Dani is odd considering they are supposedly as passionate about nectar as he is. Perhaps he sees them as competition?

While you don’t directly enter The Sims 4 Horse Ranch Secret Cave with your Sim, you will instead be presented with a variety of pop-ups.

There are a range of different ‘enemies’ that you may come across while exploring Dreadhorse Cavern. These can range from Bears, Rapping Skeletons and Spiders.

Here’s an example of one of the encounter pop-ups. It’s important to keep an eye on your Sim’s health as that can determine the action that you take.

Sims 4 Horse Ranch Secret Cave

Your Sim will need to defeat each enemy before it allows you to progress. Don’t forget you can heal during the process if needs be before you try to cause damage again. Sometimes, choosing the defensive option will actually allow you to progress further too!

TS4 x64 2023 07 22 18 28 54 MellowBright

With each successful encounter, you’ll make progress further into The Sims 4 Horse Ranch Secret Cave. Progress is measured in 25% chunks.

TS4 x64 2023 07 22 18 29 07 MellowBright

However, if you are unsuccessful, your Sim will not be able to delve deeper into Dreadhorse Caver. It’s also important to note that your Sims may also back out of the cave as they have done as much exploring as they wish to do that time around.

If your Sim does decide they’ve had enough or they’ve run out of health (don’t worry they won’t actually die), they will leave the cave and will need some time and then return to Dreadhorse Cavern at a later time.

Upon exit of this Sims 4 Horse Ranch Secret Cave, your Sim will have a Dazed Buff.

The Great Dreadhorse Escape: ‘Sim Name’ braved the Dreadhorse Caverns and lived to tell the tale!

This buff is obtained from Exploring the Dreadhorse Caverns and lasts eight hours.

Ahh, but wait there’s more!

And you thought that it was just the random battle encounters your Sims had to work through. Alas, there’s more.

As you progress through the different levels of Dreadhorse Cavern, you’ll be presented with some slightly trickier encounter pop-ups and enemies. Your Sim will from time to time be required to have specific objects within their inventory to progress. If they don’t have the specific item, you’ll leave the cave to essentially find the item ready for the next time you return.

The items you’ll need are all either part of The Sims 4 Horse Ranch or Base Game and should be easy for your Sim to obtain. Most you can find around your Sim’s home or at the local General Store. All you need to do is make sure they are in your inventory after you have found them/purchased them.

Take a look at this example encounter pop-up!

Sims 4 Horse Ranch Secret Cave

Of course, there are more than just the odd (possibly chaotic) goose blocking your way that your Sim could come across. You may even run into a Mysterious Challenger amongst other obstacles during your time in the Cave.

Cavern Rewards

Throughout your time in The Sims 4 Horse Ranch Secret Cave, your Sim will collect a variety of different objects. These could be gnomes, woodwork sculptures, and fruit and vegetables to name a few. Your Sim may also come across some incredibly rare items and Simoleons too!

As well as the items you’ll find throughout the Dreadhorse Cavern, from time to time your Sim will stumble upon a treasure chest that they can decide to open or leave. Again opening it will give your Sim a chance at receiving a reward.

Better still, once you’ve finished exploring Dreadhorse Cavern, you can always sell your wares for a few extra Simoleons. The more you explore, the more you’ll discover and more you can potentially earn!

Sims 4 Horse Skill Cheats

Did you know that you can also level up your Horses’ skills using Sims 4 Horse Ranch Cheats? Well, you can!

Our friends at LuniverSims found a method to cheat all four Skills for Horses. Giving them an instant Level for Temperament, Agility, Jumping and Endurance. Here’s how you can give your Horse instant skills:

  • First you’ll need to discover your Horse’s unique Sim ID number. You can do so by entering the following cheat: sims.get_sim_id_by_name [First Name] [Last Name]
    • Make sure you use your Horse’s first name and last name.
  • After you’ve found your Horse’s Sim ID, you can use the number to apply it to your Horse Skill Cheats

Here is the list of all Sims 4 Horse Skill Cheats. The number 10 in the cheats below represents the skill level that you can set from 1 to 10. The SimID part is the unique number code of your horse that you put at the end.

  • Temperament: stats.set_skill_level Horse_Temperament 10 [SimID]
  • Agility: stats.set_skill_level Horse_Agility 10 [SimID]
  • Jumping: stats.set_skill_level Horse_Jumping 10 [SimID]
  • Endurance: stats.set_skill_level Horse_Endurance 10 [SimID]

So for example, if you want to cheat to Level 8 of the Temperament Skill your cheat should look like this:

stats.set_skill_level Horse_Temperament 8 682314214446409934

The Sims 4 Horse Care Guide: How to Love Your Equine Pals!

Caring for horses is a challenge, but a rewarding one!

Sims 4 horse care

In The Sims 4 Horse Ranch, Sims can purchase, rescue, and breed horses! This Sims 4 horse care guide will teach you how to make your horses happy and healthy. Happy, healthy horses do better in competitions and sell for more money so whether you’re making a living in the competition circuit or by breeding and selling horses, you’ll want to keep your equine friends in tip top shape at all times. Of course, taking good care of a horse is also just a reward in itself. It always feels good to have an animal friend you can depend on.

Sims 4 Horse Care Guide

Sims 4 horse care isn’t easy. It requires a lot of patience and dedication to daily routine but you’ll find the rewards are worth all the effort. Read on to learn how to acquire and care for a horse in The Sims 4!

Acquire a Horse

Before you can take care of a horse, you’ll need to get one, first. There are multiple ways Sims can acquire a horse in The Sims 4. Horses can be purchased or rescued at the community board, or bred from two adult horses. Players can also create their own horse or foal from scratch in CAS.

Rescue Horse for 250 Simoleons

To purchase or rescue a horse, look for a community board anywhere in Chestnut Ridge. They can also be purchased and placed on your home lot if you don’t feel like hunting one down. You can also buy and rescue horses at the Equestrian Centre in New Appaloosa. Click on the community board and choose either Purchase or Rescue. Purchasing a horse costs $1,000 but rescuing one only costs $250. The downside to rescuing is that most of the selection available is elderly horses and horses with unpleasant traits… but that shouldn’t scare you away from rescuing a horse! Rescue horses can become wonderful companions with enough Sims 4 horse care!

Sims 4 Horse Care: Rescue Horse Options

If you already own a mare and a stallion, you can acquire more horses by breeding your mare and stallion to create a foal! Foals require lots of socialization because the higher their Temperament skill is when they age into a mare or a stallion, the better traits they’ll grow up with. We’re still working on our horse breeding guide but check back with us soon for more info on breeding!

The Sims™ 4 Horse Ranch Expansion Pack Livestream 11 48 screenshot

Lastly, you can create your own horses in CAS. Creating your own horse in CAS is completely free so if you’re just starting in a new save with starter funds and you know exactly what kind of horse you want, making one in CAS when you create your household is probably the best option. If you own the Cats & Dogs expansion pack, you’ll already be familiar with horse customization. All the paint tools, stencils, stamps, and a full colour wheel are available to help you create your perfect horse. You can also select pre-built breeds and select the horse’s tack and accessories for both everyday and riding.

Checking on Your Horse

When it comes to Sims 4 horse care, you’ll want to be listening to your horse a lot. Horses are household members but are not controllable. You cannot click on their portrait to see their needs so you’ll need to pay attention to your horse to see what they need.

The Sims 4 Horse Needs

The fastest way to do this is by hovering over them to see their status tooltip. Their tooltip will give you all the Sims 4 horse care information you need. You’ll see their name, gender, age, and emotion listed at the top of the tooltip with their other needs listed below. Horses have five main needs:

  • Hunger
  • Energy
  • Social
  • Fun
  • Hygiene

These needs can be Excellent, Good, Low, or Poor. If your horse has any Low needs, you should take care of them before they become Poor.

If you’re ever confused about why your horse is in a negative emotional state even when their basic needs are met, you can always ask them what’s wrong, located under the Sims 4 Horse Care options. Horses are sensitive and complex creatures; they might feel nervous from being touched if they have low Temperament skill, or they could feel sad that they had to eat from a feed bin or graze when they prefer to be hand fed. It really just depends on your horse’s unique traits and Temperament skill level. Each horse is different and will react differently to different things.

Traits, Awards, Skills and Relationships for Horses in The Sims 4

You can also check out their skills and competition history on their profile page.

Grooming

A big part of Sims 4 horse care involves keeping your equine friends groomed. You’ll know when your horse needs a good brushing or their hooves picked out when you see their Hygiene need is Low or Poor. This is easily taken care of with a good grooming session!

Sims 4 Horse Care: Grooming Horses

Under the Horse Care options, brush your horse and clean their hooves. Foals cannot have their hooves picked so take care of their Hygiene need by just brushing them. For adult horses, make sure to both brush them and clean their hooves regularly to keep their Hygiene in excellent shape!

If you own more than one horse, they will groom each other regularly, saving you the hassle of doing so yourself!

Feeding

Feeding Horses

Of course, horses have a big appetite. They are grazers, so they need plenty of hay to graze on throughout the day, whether from their feed bin, wild prairie grass, or straight from your Sims’ hands! Feeding is a big part of Sims 4 horse care and there are multiple ways you can feed your horse!

Sims 4 horse care

Foals can be bottle fed or trained to graze on prairie grass. Bottle feeding is under Sims 4 Horse Care in the social pie menu. To train your foal to start grazing on prairie grass, click on any patch of grown prairie grass to call them over to eat. They might be upset at switching from milk to hay at first but keep at it to build their Temperament skill until they can graze on their own. You can also call your foal to drink from a water trough and eat from a feed bin.

Adult horses will often choose to graze on any available prairie grass when they get hungry but you can also keep their feed bin stocked. It costs $30 to fill up a feed bin but if your Sims have prairie grass in their inventory, they can use that to fill the feed bin for free. Make sure to provide them with a water trough, too!

Needy horses might require more personalized Sims 4 horse care and want your Sim to hand feed them. Sims can hand feed a horse if they have prairie grass in their inventory. Other foods that can be hand-fed to horses include apples, carrots, and strawberries. Collect prairie grass by clicking on any grown patch of prairie grass and cutting it down.

Collecting prairie grass for horses in The Sims 4 Horse Ranch

Mucking

Since horses eat and drink a lot, they also relieve themselves a lot. Mucking out horse beds and picking up horse manure is another aspect of Sims 4 horse care you’ll need to stay on top of. Horse beds gradually become dirty over time but cleaning the horse bed once a day will keep it nice and tidy for your horse.

Sims 4 horse care: Mucking

Horses don’t always go to the bathroom in their horse bed, though. It would be polite if they did but that’s not realistic. Horses relieve themselves just about anywhere and everywhere they feel like doing so. In the barn, in the pasture, out on a trail ride. Doesn’t matter. When they need to go, they just go! Click on piles of horse manure to either dispose of them or keep them in your inventory.

Why keep horse poop in your inventory? For fertilizer, of course! Horse manure is an excellent fertilizer for plants and the better quality of horse manure, the better quality of fertilizer. Well cared for horses provide you with higher quality manure for fertilizer. Hover over a pile of horse manure to see its quality.

Socializing

Sim and Horse hugging each other

Don’t just feed and groom your horse and call it a day for Sims 4 horse care! Horses are social creatures and part of their Sims 4 horse care involves socializing! Horses can socialize with other horses and animals or Sims. Even if your horse has plenty of other animals to interact with, don’t skip out on spending quality time with your horse. The more you interact with your horse, the more you build their Temperament skill, which dictates how well that horse behaves when interacting with other horses and Sims. It also unlocks new social interactions. You can find plenty of social options in the Friendly category when clicking on your horse.

Sims 4 horse care

Don’t forget that Sims 4 horse care requires providing your horse with fun, too! Horses can gain Fun through certain social interactions and may also canter around on their own for fun but the best way to ensure your horse gets all the Sims 4 horse care they need is by providing them with a horse ball. Purchase one in Build/Buy and place it down for them to play with. Horses will interact with it on their own but can also be called over to play with the ball.

Training

We’ll have a larger training and competitions guide available soon but here’s a quick summary to get started with Sims 4 horse care!

Horses have four different skills; three of them are directly related to training and competitions. Horses can start learning the Temperament skill as a foal, but when they become adults, they’ll also be able to build the Agility, Jumping, and Endurance skills.

Agility is linked to the barrel racing competitions at the Equestrian Centre. Build this skill by practicing on training barrels found at the park, Equestrian Centre, or along any of the trails in Galloping Gulch. You can also purchase and place them on your home lot.

Training Horses in Horse Ranch

Jumping is linked to the show jumping competitions. You can work on this skill by practicing jumping on the training jumps in the park, Equestrian Centre, or along the trails. You can also buy and place them down on your home lot. As your horse becomes a more skilled jumper, you can add to the jumps to make them more advanced.

Sims 4 horse care

Endurance is connected to Western pleasure riding at the Equestrian Centre. To build your horse’s Endurance, spend plenty of time trail riding with them around Galloping Gulch. The breathtaking views alone are worth it!

Train Horse Skill Options

Strapped for time? No problem! For a fee, you can send your horse to the Equestrian Centre to be trained in the skill of your choice by a professional trainer!

Sims 4 Ceiling Paint: How to Use This Nifty New Feature

Paintable ceilings are finally here! Here’s how to use them!

sims 4 ceiling paint

Sims 4 ceiling paint? It sounds too good to be true but it’s real now! The latest update for The Sims 4 has finally added this feature players have been wanting in Build/Buy mode for years. Previously, all ceilings were plain white with no texture or patterns able to be applied to them. This made for some really jarring indoor spaces, especially when building historic builds and rustic or weathered builds. The stark white ceilings ruined the look of the whole build.

That’s a thing of the past now, though! Players who update their Sims 4 game to the latest version will now be able to paint their ceilings any colour or pattern that’s available for floors! We’re going to walk you through exactly how Sims 4 ceiling paint works in this latest update!

How to Apply Sims 4 Ceiling Paint

You’ll find that applying Sims 4 ceiling paint is just as easy and straight forward as applying flooring! Read on to learn how to customise your ceilings in The Sims 4!

Floor and Ceiling Patterns in Build/Buy

When you enter Build/Buy, you’ll notice that the flooring icon now says Floor and Ceiling Patterns. This is because applying ceiling tiles is pretty much the same as applying floor tiles. All available floor tiles are also able to be applied to ceilings (yes, even brick and carpeting because why the heck not, right?).

Click on the Floor and Ceiling Patterns icon to be taken to the familiar floor tile menu, just with some new additions to the user interface. You can see that in addition to the flooring options you always had access to, there are additional icons along the top left of the flooring selection. These new options allow you to toggle between applying flooring by tile, flooring by room, ceilings by tile, and ceilings by room, in that order.

Painting a ceiling by tile or by room works pretty much exactly the same as tiling a floor by tile or by room. The by tile option allows you to paint tile-by-tile which gives you the freedom to mix and match different patterns and create your own custom patterns if you want to. By room is a quick tool that will automatically apply your chosen pattern to the whole room.

Paint Your Ceilings!

Luckily, gone are the days of awkwardly trying to tilt the camera up to cover the ceilings like in past Sims games. When you switch to the Sims 4 ceiling paint tool, the camera jumps up to the above level and allows you to customise the ceiling below from above. Don’t worry; any flooring you picked out for the above level will show up again once you leave the ceiling paint mode.

sims 4 ceiling paint
Apply ceilings from the level above; flooring for the above level can still be selected separately

To see how the ceiling you picked out looks on the lower level, pan the camera down to check out how the room looks with its new ceiling!

Painting ceilings in The Sims 4 is going to be a complete game changer for builders! Not only do players now have a wide variety of flooring now available for ceilings, but today’s update also added plenty of new swatch selections to many of the existing flooring (and now ceiling) tiles! For more info on the new swatches, check out our full update overview!

Sims 4 Horse Ranch Stream: Final Gameplay Overview

Here’s our full summary of a strangely vague expansion pack stream…

The Sims™ 4 Horse Ranch Expansion Pack Livestream 37 2 screenshot

Last week’s “live” gameplay stream for The Sims 4 Horse Ranch has been greatly anticipated by players looking to get a first hand look at brand new content not previously shown off in the trailers. Unfortunately, that didn’t seem to happen. The so-called “livestream” was not in fact live; it was prerecorded and under an hour long in length, which is unheard of for an expansion pack. Typically, expansion pack streams get a full two hours dedicated to them in their gameplay streams.

Many big features of this expansion were simply glossed over and not shown off in any kind of detail at all, such as the equestrian competitions and social events. The stream ended with very little new information being shared. Nonetheless, we do have a full summary of all the main talking points discussed during today’s Sims 4 Horse Ranch stream.

The Sims 4 Horse Ranch Gameplay Stream Summary

  • Nectar racks are stackable. As you store your bottles in them, the rack fills up. Storing your nectar for a long time increases the value.
The Sims™ 4 Horse Ranch Expansion Pack Livestream 51 58 screenshot
  • Once you open a bottle, it only lasts a few days. Nectar can be drunk straight from the bottle or from a glass. Foodie Sims will be horrified by seeing a Sim drink from the bottle.
  • Children can ride horses in The Sims 4 Horse Ranch. Horses will help kids mount them since they’re smaller.
