UPDATE: Polygon got an official response from EA regarding the closure of Maxis Studio in Emeryville:

Today we are consolidating Maxis IP development to our studios in Redwood Shores, Salt Lake City, Helsinki and Melbourne locations as we close our Emeryville location. Maxis continues to support and develop new experiences for current Sims and SimCity players, while expanding our franchises to new platforms and developing new cross-platform IP.

These changes do not impact our plans for The Sims. Players will continue to see rich new experiences in The Sims 4, with our first expansion pack coming soon along with a full slate of additional updates and content in the pipeline.

All employees impacted by the changes today will be given opportunities to explore other positions within the Maxis studios and throughout EA. For those that are leaving the company, we are working to ensure the best possible transition with separation packages and career assistance.

Guillaume Pierre, one of the producers of SimCity has announced that Maxis Studio in Emeryville is shutting its doors.

Don’t worry, the Maxis Studio (one of EA’s divisions) still exists in San Francisco and their primary focus is The Sims 4.

If you’re not familiar with the games that were created in Maxis Emeryville, here’s a list down below created by Sims Wikia!

Ok, I don’t understand all this.. I had never heard of Maxis Emeryville until today…I see several Sims2 stuff on that list above…How will this affect us that have Sims2 and everything on that list above..

I am sorry to see them leave..It seems like Sims2 is being cut out of every aspect of the game…There are so many of us that love and still play Sims2…What happens us when all of you have stopped having to do anything with Sims2..I have also built a Sim2 website and it will never fail..

Such a shame that a studio that has produced so many good games is closing. *shakes fist* WHY EA ;-;

also, side note: sorry, but ‘closing it’s doors down’ doesn’t really work. ‘shutting it’s doors’ works better 🙂 *grammar police out*

Not to grammar police your grammar policing, but it should be “Closing ITS doors” without the apostrophe. The reason being that “It’s” is a contraction of “it is”, the possessive doesn’t have it.

It’s so sad that a franchise that just celebrated its anniversary is now closing doors and letting go valued team members. It doesn’t feel right, but we can’t change that. I wish nothing but the best to everyone who had a hand in making one of the most played and valued games in my life, so far. High School would not have been the same with out you. Overnight shifts would have been boring. Change CAN be good.
(Fingers crossed)
