SuperData has just recently updated their research blog about game sales data with information about Top 10 best selling PC and Console games of December 2018!
In their charts The Sims 4 has once again made its way by taking the 8th position on the best selling PC games worldwide! This is a great thing considering that the competition was HUGE during the holiday season.
Here’s an official statement by SuperData about The Sims 4 sales:
Sims 4 benefits from end-of-year promotions. A significant price cut led to a surge in new unit sales on both console and PC. However, DLC revenue on PC declined year-over-year by 10%.
Although they haven’t stated why exactly have the DLC sales declined year-over-year by 10%, it’s probably safe to assume that it’s because of the fact that 2018 only brought 2 Stuff Packs, a Game Pack and 2 Expansion Packs, compared to 2017 which brought 3 Stuff Packs, 2 Game Packs and an Expansion Pack. 2018 was more focused towards putting out bigger packs while 2017 was focused primarily on Stuff Packs and Game Packs.
Someone needs to tell EA that if they don’t put more effort into advancement of products such as The Sims, they’ll be bankrupt by the next generation. We can see that they just don’t care about the franchise, and that they’ve lost sight of simulation-related goals. If they can’t sell The Sims, then consumers won’t desire any of their products or services, since it will be evident that they’ve either forgotten the foundations of entertainment, or are too focused on their portfolios to find artistic inspiration within any technological field. The Sims 4 should have been the #1 product of this generation, and their refusal to invest in its development is very noticeable throughout the content, and core code. The conversion of online architecture, and resultant extension of the development process, have nothing to do with their failures, or the loss of interest throughout gaming communities.
