We personally can not wait for you to hear about all of the exciting features for The Sims 4: Businesses and Hobbies. Please refer to our Businesses and Hobbies articles for the most up to date information on The Sims’ latest expansion pack!

What is the Family Recipe System?

In The Sims 4 Businesses and Hobbies, the Family recipe is a newly introduced system to the franchise of The Sims. We have not before this game had a family recipe system. This is super exciting!

The Family Recipe system allows sims to be able to pass down special, unique recipes through their families generations, creating a more traditional culinary recipe. Rather than unlocking new dishes by only skill-building, this system encourages sims to preserve, share, and create family recipes, fostering a new sense of nostalgia and connection between different generations.

Key Features of the Family Recipe System:

  • Creating a Family Recipe: If you click onto the new Grammy’s Family Recipes item and select Family Recipes > Create a Family Recipe
  • Teaching a Family Recipe: You can now teach a family recipe to other sims, so that your sim is able to pass down or teach recipes to their friends and family.

Choosing A Base Recipe

When creating a Sims 4 Family Recipe, the first thing that you’ll need to do is choosing a Base Recipe. This includes a list of all already available recipes in The Sims 4, including Base Game and DLC. You can choose to opt in for using prepped ingredients, fresh or both! This will all have an effect on the total cost of your final Family Recipe creation.

The Base Recipe includes Vegetarian, Lactose Free, Meat, Seafood and Sweets options.

The Impact of Family Recipes on Storytelling

For simmers who enjoy legacy gameplay and generational storytelling, the Family Recipe System adds depth and realism to The Sims 4. Imagine your sim inherits their great-grandparents home remedy, only to use it for their benefit and pass it on for generations. This feature also makes it more expansive for sims who are interested in the culinary career, adding that drive of realism.

Unfortunately not all recipies are available to use as a base of family recipe. Maybe it is bug in my game or mistake of creators. You can choose only from repicies shown throught Cook section on Fridge Pie Menu. For example Waffles, Pizza, Icecream, Candy and other are available only througth special kitchen appliance and are not included in Fridge Menu and I was’t able to find recipies made with Baking skill. The only exception are repicies from Pressure Cooker from For Rent Expansion. One good thing is, that you can have family recipe from Pancakes with gummy bears, Heart shaped cookies and other Emotional recipes from base game!
