A First Look At Paralives Town Events

From market sellers to buried treasure quests, lots of new Paralives town events have been revealed in the latest post from the team.

The team followed feedback from playtesters and their Patreon supporters to help make the town feel more alive.

One of the biggest and most frequent feedback we’ve received from both our playtesters and viewers who watched our public stream last November was that the town seemed empty and lacked things to do. So, the artists and programmers worked super hard to come up with interesting town events that cycle throughout the week to keep your Paras entertained!

Event Schedule

Learn when you can expect each event to show up in your game using this handy table.

Joining in with these Paralives town events will also help your Paras build skills faster.

Park Yoga

Parafolk will be treated to free yoga in the park every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

Leveling up your fitness skill will be more effective if you join the yoga class, as your Para will get a significant learning boost!

Buried Treasure

Send your Parafolk on a quest for buried treasure! Small chests will be hidden around the town with different items inside.

These differ from the collectible chests you will find around the town. Chests specific to the buried treasure event will be bright red to make them stand out.

There are currently around 20 different Build Mode items to find in the chests. The items vary in value, so you can either keep them to furnish your house or sell them for profit!

The chests are somewhat well hidden, but I wasn’t too evil with the placement of them. I looked for any nook and cranny around the plaza and castle exterior where I could hide them!

Astronomy Club

Any Parafolk who have an affinity for the stars will love the new astronomy club. Find them in the park at the top of the mountain every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Looking through the telescope will also give your Parafolk a boost to their science skill, but whatever they will see is a mystery…

Marketplace

Most of us who play life simulation games like The Sims 4 are familiar with making the most of markets, so it is no surprise that these Paralives town events include plans for a variety of market stalls and sellers.

When it came to the market, we thought we could have the town’s stores participate, but we thought that 1) we needed some unique stalls to make players come back every Sunday, and 2) the stalls are not that far off from the shop plaza! 

We decided on an Oddities shop, where you could get some wacky, creative decor pieces, and a painter who’s fighting with their desire to draw anime art while having to create more ‘’commercially-viable’’ art. We had a lot of fun creating the items on sale! With the items being on rotation, we hope players will have fun visiting the Sunday Market every week and seeing what’s on sale!

From the sneak preview we saw, we also noticed a workout station in one of the stalls, so there seem to be lots of areas for different stall types.

As I commented on the video, it’s yet another showcase of a game that is clearly in development hell and janky beyond reason for how long it’s been in development (and the 6 month delay to releasing in early access).

0:13 – Characters other than the main one are sitting completely still. No breathing, no idling, no looking around. Completely still.
0:13 – Character starts walking by sliding her left foot backward. THis is a basic locomotion animation error that is ever present across all movement in this game- and yes, it makes a difference.
0:14 – No attempt is made to route around the lamp, phases through it
0:16 – On starting to turn, feet snap into position, skipping several frames
0:16 – Leading foot swaps. One foot snaps into the front instead of the other in one frame. This is, again, a persistent and basic locomotion animation error present in every video you post. This is a basic aspect of movement animations. This is not a “fix it in post” level error, it is foundational.
0:27 – Both characters on right side as scene fades in snap their feet from behind to in front.
0:34 – Character moving to do yoga snaps several feet away from where she started.
0:36 – Leading foot swap, twice, as she approaches the yoga mat
1:13 – Several characters start scene embedded in each other
1:22 – Character, again, starts moving by sliding foot backward
1:25 – Awful in-place shuffle to turn towards equipment
1:26 – No animation, whatsoever, for changing clothes. Really?
1:50 – Character jitters on approaching table and circle at their feet bounces up into the air 2:00 – Character jiggles feet around to turn instead of natural turning
2:01 – No clothes change animation
2:01 – Animation to grab clothes happens after clothes change

This game is a mess, and when it finally comes out, people are going to be shocked by how janky it is, even though every single video they put out is like this. Just riddled with basic issues like these. These are all foundational animation and gameplay-to-animation-integration issues. They’re not stuff you save for later.
