Sims Community Website Update: We Just Got Way Faster!

An update on the recent developments at Sims Community.

Here at Sims Community we've been working for over a year to make this website run and feel better. Without getting too technical in the explanations of what went right (and what went wrong before that), I'll be explaining things in "Pop Terms". Or just specifically for our audience - "Sims Terms".

Just like The Sims 4, we thought that a massive rebranding would fix the issue. We worked on the new look, new features and tested the new website look behind the scenes to ensure it performs well. Everything was smooth in our tests, but then came the time to deliver the website update. Month after month, new issues started to arise for different browsers and different page content that we tried to deliver.

The more content we offered to people in a single page the more it would lag, stutter and sometimes even crash for some. Very similar to the concept of The Sims 4 Simulation Lag and how the game performs worse the more Sims you play and interact with.

In early May I started having regular meetings with our Site Developer who offered the solution that I was too hesitant to accept at first, but now I knew there was no other solution that we can try. He had to do an entire code translation and switch to a new platform that can support that code. In Sims Terms - The Sims 4 game code had to be abandoned and we had to start working on Project X.

The solution was more than 2 months under development by our website developer, and now we have the first iteration of that work. Sims Community website has been entirely restructured to now support smooth scrolling and instant content loading. Previously it would take seconds before first images and text would show up, now they appear in an instant. The new site infrastructure also allows us to confidently publish more long-form and feature-rich content that you can access, search and scroll through in an instant. Such as the recently published The Sims 4 Reward Traits Guide featuring more than 20K+ words by our author EgonVM, with more to come very soon!

With the rise of Macbook purchases also came the rise of emails saying how terribly our website performed on Safari (Mac) browsers. And they were right - we were delivering around 5 frames per second with each page scroll. All of that has been resolved now, and the website is now as smooth as your computer / device is!

We have a few more bugs to polish on this platform and some legacy features to bring back such as the Upvoting for Comments feature, but they should all be fixed and returned this week. You can Contact Us HERE if you spot or experience something out of the ordinary!

To wrap up this article in human terms - your tremendous support and following of our content has helped us make this code translation of Sims Community a reality. The website is finally in a good enough foundational space where we can add more to it.

And in Sims terms - we plan to start working on some fun Sims Spinoffs, Packs and Giveaways ;)
