The Sims 4 Eco Living: Ironing Boards are being considered

16

After the announcement of laundry gameplay coming to The Sims 4 Eco Living Stuff Pack, SimGuruGraham answered a few questions on Twitter and The Sims Forums, saying that there is a possibility that we might see functional ironing boards in this pack. Please note that, although the gameplay theme has been locked, the gameplay features have yet to be developed.

Also, the entire process of doing laundry may be different this time around. SimGuruGraham assured us to keep an open mind and influence the design process by giving feedback:

Apparently not many people knew about Facial CAS Presets in The Sims 4

18

I was searching through The Sims posts on Reddit and I came across this thread which reminded people that you need to select certain CAS presets in order to get unique, different shapes and facial features on the chin, cheeks, eyes and so on. I knew about this since The Sims 4 Create A Sim Demo, but apparently many on Reddit replied that they’ve just heard about this feature. It’s not a surprise considering that these facial presets are hidden and are only present to you when you click the certain part of your Sim’s face.

Notice the dimples on this Sim’s face? They can only be added by selecting a certain cheek preset. There are different variations that will give your Sim’s cheek a different look (not talking about the shape but the tone and details instead).

Similar thing goes for other parts of the face. Want dimples on your chin? You can find a preset for that!

Want your Sim to have small bags under their eyes? There’s a right preset for that! There are also presets which will your Sim different lenghts of eyelashes.

Opinion: The Sims 4 Fitness Stuff Isn’t So Bad

When I first learned that a fitness-related stuff pack was coming in June, I’ll be perfectly honest; I wasn’t too excited about it. I didn’t hate the concept. I could see why the Sims Team would want to expand upon this area of the game. It was old, stale, and hadn’t been touched upon since Spa Day. There was no doubt that gym-related activities were in need of an upgrade. I just didn’t think I would get much use out of a pack like Fitness Stuff. My Sims rarely go to the gym. If they do any kind of physical activity, it’s usually a yoga routine at home on their balcony or in the backyard. What could Fitness Stuff possibly have that would excite a Simmer like me?

Soon after, the gameplay items of the pack were announced; a rock wall and earbuds. I wasn’t too interested in the earbuds but the rock wall intrigued me. I wasn’t sold quite yet, however. I needed to see this rock wall in action for myself. It had to be a step up from the rock walls we’ve seen before in previous installments of The Sims or it wouldn’t be worth installing for me. I decided to watch the live broadcast with SimGuruGraham. That was I started to think Fitness Stuff would be a welcomed addition to my game, after all.

Opinion: The Sims 4 Fitness Stuff Isn’t So Bad

I ended up getting the pack and spent some time exploring everything it had to offer. It quickly became clear to me that I was wrong to be so critical of this pack. The Sims 4 Fitness Stuff added much more than some funky clothes and ultra-modern furniture to my game. It added a whole new way to enjoy the Fitness skill, which is a skill I became bored with years ago, but not anymore!

I expected the clothes to be stuff that a Sim probably wouldn’t wear anywhere other than the gym, but I was wrong. Many of the clothing items suit any Sim who wants to look fashionably laid-back and each item comes in a great variety of both patterned and coloured variants. My personal favourites are the polyester tank top with shoulder shrug and the tennis skirt, pictured below:

Opinion: The Sims 4 Fitness Stuff Isn’t So Bad

The hair that comes with Fitness Stuff is also a strong point of the pack. The shoulder-length dreadlocks provide the game with some much-needed diversity and the side ponytail is casually elegant. Of course, everyone loves getting new ombre hairstyles and the new side-buzz with a long flipped fringe delivers in that area.

Let’s put the CAS parts aside and jump right into the gameplay that Fitness Stuff offers. I can’t wrap my mind around all the hate for the rock wall. It. Is. So. Cool! The biggest reason I hardly ever sent my Sims to the gym was because it was boring watching them punch a glorified bean bag, run in place on a treadmill, or sit at the weight machine. Building the Fitness skill was tedious and mind-numbing. Do these three boring actions. Over. And over. And over again. Forever. It wasn’t exciting. It didn’t pump me up the way working out should.

With Fitness Stuff, I love sending my Sims to the gym. Watching them try to scale the rock wall is so much more entertaining! Plus with all the different settings (including a potentially deadly fire setting), their rock wall workouts are never the same. The fire setting really gets my adrenaline going because holy plumbob, what if my Sim dies?! The gym is an exciting place to be now and I love it.

The workout videos are also more fun to watch than the exercise machines and punching bag. I find myself bobbing my head and doing a little dancey thing in my seat while I’m watching my Sims work out to the videos. I’ve never been that engaged in my Sims’ workouts before.

As for the earbuds, there was a lot of hype surrounding them, but I feel like they’re the least exciting gameplay item in this pack. They’re just kind of… there. Your Sim puts them on sometimes and listens to music while they do stuff, which is basically what they always did before. They just needed a radio nearby. The fact that the earbuds are portable now doesn’t make much of a difference, but they do look good on my teens. Teenagers are always walking around with earbuds in their ears, blaring whatever music is hip that decade, so I like giving earbuds to my teenagers to make them feel more like teenagers. In the end, it’s more of an aesthetic appeal for me than a functional one.

Opinion: The Sims 4 Fitness Stuff Isn’t So Bad

Does this mean that I love everything in Fitness Stuff? I have to be honest and say no. For me, the furniture and decor are the weakest aspect of this pack. It’s all very lackluster and unremarkable. It doesn’t look any different from any of the ultra-modern furniture we already had in the game. If you own Spa Day, you already have most, if not all of the furnishings in Fitness Stuff. They don’t stand apart from each other in any significant way. If you buy this pack, don’t buy it for the furniture because it’s really nothing special.

So, is Fitness Stuff the best stuff pack for The Sims 4 to date? In my opinion, no. In my mind, The Sims 4 Kids Room Stuff still tops every stuff pack we’ve seen so far, but The Sims 4 Fitness Stuff is still a nice addition to the game. It adds a new dynamic to your Sims’ workouts and gives them more of a reason to head out to the gym on a regular basis. Even if you don’t play active Sims very often, having this pack in your collection might change that and make playing these Sims worth your while.

What do you think? Have I convinced you to give The Sims 4 Fitness Stuff a chance? Let me know in the comments. I want to hear from you!

The Sims 4 Eco Living: Laundry Wins the Gameplay Community Vote!

96

SimGuruGraham has just announced on the forums that Laundry gameplay theme has won the community vote for The Sims 4 Eco Living Stuff Pack!

Before we dive into the results, here are all the features that were listed for Laundry:

LAUNDRY
An optional gameplay system that’s only used by the active household when laundry objects are placed on the Sim’s home lot. Moodlets and modifiers to the decay rate of certain needs serve as some of the benefits and pushback of this system. Some gameplay feature ideas include:

– Washing Machine – Sims can use the washing machine to clean dirty clothes that are collected from a hamper, or from piles of clothes on the ground. Object could break, be upgraded, and potentially have a fun interaction or a funny failure.
– Dryer – Sims can take clothes that have just been cleaned in the Washing Machine or the Wash Tub and have them dried. Object could break, as well as being upgraded.
Hamper – When a Sim in the active household changes their outfit on their home lot, laundry is added to the hamper as long as it exists anywhere on the lot. Over time, the hamper gradually fills up. If there is no hamper, or the hamper is full, then a clothes pile appears on the ground.
– Clothes Line – Sims who prefer to be eco conscious can choose to use a clothesline as an alternative to the dryer. Using a clothes line does not require power and offers savings on the weekly bill, but clothes take longer to dry.
– Wash Tub – Sims who prefer to be eco conscious can choose to use a wash tub as an alternative to a washing machine. Using a wash tub does not require power or water, and offers savings on the weekly bill, but the Sim must remain at the object to wash their clothes by hand. can choose to use a wash tub as an alternative to a washing machine. Using a wash tub does not require power or water, and offers savings on the weekly bill, but the Sim must remain at the object to wash their clothes by hand.

Here are the official results posted by SimGuruGraham:

Hello Simmers! Let’s get right to it…

Laundry is the winning group of gameplay features that we’ll create for this upcoming Stuff Pack, after capturing the most votes from this community! In fact, when we examined the outcome across the different regions that voted, the results were almost entirely aligned. Nearly everyone voted for the options in the following order…

  1. Laundry
  2. Off the Grid
  3. Food Preserves
  4. Carbon Conscious

The only exception to this result came from players in Russia, where Food Preserves swapped places with Off the Grid by a slim margin.

With these results in hand, we have a clear path forward for this pack. In the coming weeks our Stuff Pack designer will get to work writing full designs for Washers, Dryers, Clotheslines, Wash Tubs, and Ironing Boards. I’m looking forward to sharing those full designs with you, so that we can collaborate on the little details which are so important to creating a fun – and full – Sims experience.

You also have two more votes to look forward to, now with concrete dates on when they will occur. The Pack Icon Vote will start on September 6th, followed by the Pack Title Vote starting September 13th, where we will select the final name for this Stuff Pack.

In the meantime, watch for more in-depth looks into game development right here on this forum. In the coming weeks I’ll be sharing more art, showing off the hairstyles that will come with this pack, discussing the process we follow internally to get from the initial brainstorm to the feature groups you voted on, and more!

Speculation: Possible first look at The Sims 4 Pets!

58

NOTE: This post is pure speculation and is not confirmed by EA.

UPDATE #2: In a conversation with one of our readers Roman Doubrava, we found more information about how the render and information about Pets got into the hands of the film-game.cz retailer. Roman got a reply from one of the people who work at film-game.cz, saying the following:

Hello, The game is a product plan from EA, which they sent last week under the working name PETS. So far we do not know whether we hit the Czech name of DOMÁCÍ MAZLÍČCI (Home Pets) (it may be just MAZLÍČCI (Pets) or PSI & KOČKY (Dogs and Cats) ). The picture we have on the product is only illustrative.

Speculation: Possible first look at The Sims 4 Pets!

However, when asked for information about the origin of the render, they replied with the following:

Documents for the mock-up come from google search, not sent to us by EA. We have withdrawn the product at the publisher’s request, will only be offered after the official announcement of the game.

Speculation: Possible first look at The Sims 4 Pets!

The question remains: how were they able to find that render on Google if we did an extensive search on google and various sims forums before this render got viral and found NO results of this render, yet they were able to find it just like that and post it on their listing? Furthermore, why is no one able to track down the original creator of this state-of-the-art fanmade render? For now, this is just speculation, but we’ll see the final results and the resemblance once The Sims Team decides to officially announce this Pack…

UPDATE: SimGuruGraham tweeted a comment on this render, saying that it’s fake. Although it’s still fishy how the original creator / source of this render cannot be found, at least we now have a 2nd listing aiming at the November 9/10 release date.

One of the most reliable Czech retail websites that sells video games (film.game.cz) has listed The Sims 4 Pets on their page. Along with the listing there is a box art which, although looks fanmade, is made with a render which seems more than real to me. I have no trustworthy information but it seems the retailer recreated the box art using the render they were provided with.

I did my duty as a news reporter and did a google and forums search of this render before it went viral. However, no results came up.

Even if the assets turn out to be fake (which we don’t know yet), the November 10 listing could very much be real as this isn’t the first time the release date has been leaked by a Czech retailer.

Speculation: Possible first look at The Sims 4 Pets!

The retailer listed November 10th, 2017 as the release date of this Expansion Pack – similar to the first release date leak.

Speculation: Possible first look at The Sims 4 Pets!

We’ll keep you updated as new information pop up. Stay tuned on our Pets Category for all the latest news!

The Sims Through the Years: 25th June

2

On this day 4 years ago the hugely popular The Sims 3: Island Paradise hit the shelves for players to buy, proving to be one of the most popular expansion packs to date it allowed the user to create and live in house boats across the ocean surrounding Isla Paradiso.

Following the announcement of The Sims 4 in May this pack was the penultimate expansion pack for The Sims 3, it marked a sad occasion in the franchise as it meant that the 4 year old iteration was coming to a close, but what a way to go out! Although it was massively popular there were a lot of complaints, the game was huge and added many new features on to the already aging game engine meant it caused large lag spikes making it unplayable for users with older or underpowered computers.

The expansion added much more than just house boats, it added the ability to stay at and run a resort, create it how you wanted and run it as a fancy five star or an offensive one star. It wasn’t a simple task though, the phrase “everyone’s a critic” applies here as guests were able to rate their stay meaning if you leave someone with a bad taste in their mouth then you can expect the guests to stay away.

The features didn’t end there either, for the first time ever Island Paradise allowed our Sims to travel underwater as scuba divers and discover what the waters had to offer, but if you think that was the only way to search the sea you’re very mistaken. Mermaids were finally brought to the game and they were stunning, with their amazing tails and shimmering scales it was a welcomed addition.

Simmer Q&A: Five Minutes with Magical Municorn

0

Welcome to another Simmer Q&A where we take five minutes to get to know another member of our community and share some of their aweSIM content with you. This week we are joined by the fabulous Magical Municorn! We have been so excited to chat with her and absolutely love her Twitch Channel! We asked her all about her simming journey and what started it all.

Q1.) First things first we want to know what got you started on your sims journey and how long have you been simming?

I started playing The Sims wayyyyyy back in the Sims 1 days when I was about 8 years old! My dad is the one actually who told me about it. He knew that I loved playing with dolls and action figures and making up crazy stories so he had a feeling The Sims was right up my alley! And the rest is history.

Q2.) Great! Now we can see your YouTube channel is very popular within the community with nearly 14K subscribers (congratulations!) What inspired you to begin recording your sim stories and how do you feel about the channel today?

I was inspired to start creating and sharing my stories publicly on YouTube after being a long time subscriber and fan of Quxxn (I miss her so much) and xUrbanSimsx ! At that time I was in a sorority and none of my friends ever really understood my love for such a ‘silly’ game and why I played it so much. All I ever wanted was to go online and find a group of people that I fit in with, and who understood my passions. So I did just that! I have amassed almost 14,000 subscribers to MySimsAddiction who feel the same. And the people I have met have been nothing short of wonderful.

Today I must admit, I haven’t been as active on YouTube as I once was! I have started streaming on Twitch.tv/Municorny more often this year and the community I have found there has been so incredibly amazing! With my original goal in mind – to meet like minded people who I could be friends with and experience fun and laughter with, the instant interaction and feedback during a livestream has really made me feel like I have found my place online. I do have some ideas and plans for my YouTube channel down the line though! I have just needed some time to shift my attention a little bit and explore new avenues of fun with my fellow Sim’s lovers.

Simmer Q&A: Five Minutes with Magical MunicornQ3.) That’s wonderful! So we know you also host a super popular twitch channel, is this your favourite way of sharing your gameplay? What do you enjoy most about streaming?

Twitch is definitely different than YouTube Let’s Plays!!! Both the platforms have their perks and weaknesses. YouTube allows me to create more high produced, high quality, on demand content. On the other hand, Twitch allows me to immediately chat and communicate live with people around the world! I think its safe to say that every person goes through their phases in life where they are more focused on different things and as of right now I am more focused on growing my Twitch streams.

Q4.) Speaking of Twitch we also spotted that you have recently become a Twitch affiliate (HUGE CONGRATULATIONS!!) how do you feel about that and do you have any plans moving forward?

THANK YOU!!! I did! Being an affiliate and actually starting to earn a small income from Twitch has been an absolute dream of mine. I am nearing the end of my college degree and I would be more than delighted if the income I make online could help allow me to devote more time to creating – perhaps even full time someday! So moving forward I guess you can say that is my goal. To continue to grow and expand my horizons, until hopefully someday, I can create somewhat more permanently and professionally.

Q5.) That’s fantastic! So, we have seen a wide range of content released by The Sims for TS4 so far, which would you say has been your favourite Expansion/Game/Stuff pack?

My favourite pack for Sims 4 thus far is hands down the Dine Out game pack. I love all the game packs in general actually! I love the idea of getting a small pack of concentrated and unique content for the game that ads a little extra gameplay too!

Q6.) Is there anything you would personally like to see included in The Sims 4 and if you have played TS2 or TS3 did you have a favourite pack from them?

I would LOVE to see Pets and Weather come to the Sims 4 eventually of course!!!! But I would also absolutely looovveee to see a Sims 2 Bon Voyage type vacation expansion for the Sims 4 as well. That would be so fun! I would vacation all day every day!!!!  I can imagine with the more open neighborhoods there would be lots to explore. Bon Voyage is probably one of the best Sims expansions to date in my opinion.

Q7.) Finally, we have to know how did you come up with your name Magical Municorns? it’s just that awesome!

Oh wow, its a very simple and quite random story actually. I had a friend take a screenshot of my face (that she captured during a horror stream of mine actually, so you can imagine the expression) and she photoshopped it onto the body of a unicorn. I love it so much that I guess I just became a unicorn right then and there myself. M + Unicorn. Municorn. And from that day on…. MagicalMunicorn was born!!

Turning the Grim Reaper into a Vampire

Believe it or not, you can have a vampire Grim Reaper in The Sims 4 Vampires Game Pack. However, you’ll need to know a few tricks and cheats in order to turn him into a vampire…

First off, you’ll need to kill a Sim on your lot in order to make the Grim Reaper appear. After he pops up on your lot, enter the testingcheats true cheat and then shift + click on the Grim Reaper > Add to Family.

Turning the Grim Reaper into a Vampire

Still, you’ll notice that you won’t have normal control over the Grim Reaper. This can be easily fixed by sending the Grim Reaper to another lot and coming back.

Now that you have complete control over the Grim Reaper you can turn him into a Vampire. However, traditional ways of becoming a Vampire won’t do the trick as the Grim Reaper doesn’t have any plasma…

Turning the Grim Reaper into a Vampire

There is a cheat that automatically turns any Sim into a Vampire, including the Grim Reaper. While the Grim Reaper is selected, enter the stats.set_stat commodity_BecomingVampire 2160 cheat.

Grim Reaper will get its dark form automatically, and therefore you’ll get a Sim with random CAS assets that doesn’t look like a Grim Reaper at all.

Turning the Grim Reaper into a Vampire

Click a wardrobe on your lot and select Change Sim option. From there you can find an option on the bottom left corner that lets you copy any CAS items and parts from the normal to the dark form, making your Grim Reaper look exactly the same in both forms.

Turning the Grim Reaper into a Vampire

Aaaand there you have it – you now have a controllable Grim Reaper with vampire gameplay.

The Sims Through the Years: 24th June

4

Hello and welcome to a brand new series we will be hosting here on Sims Community. You’ve obviously heard of throwback Thursday, well we love a good heap of nostalgia so we thought it would be fantastic to remind you of the many releases we’ve had over the years.

As today is the 24th June we will be going back several years to 2008 when The Sims 2: Ikea Home Stuff was released, although just a stuff pack this was a brilliant addition to the already large library of games, adding plenty of new and stylish furniture to the game, something it definitely needed.

Although it has been a massive nine years since its release the pack still holds up incredibly well, the furniture is some of the best in the complete game and well worth it. The pack actually included real furniture that IKEA really sold at the time.

The Sims 4 Fitness Stuff: A Day in the Life

*This article is best viewed on a desktop due to its image layout.

With the release of Fitness Stuff, our Sims’ workouts and athletic style just got a major upgrade and what better way to experience everything this exciting new pack has to offer than through the eyes of the Sims themselves? I spent some time delving into the pack with a few Sims and documented their experiences, so let’s take an in-depth look at a day in the life of the Baxter family.

Helpful Hint! You can get a closer look at any of the images in this article by clicking on them to view the full size version.

The Sims 4 Fitness Stuff: A Day in the Life The Sims 4 Fitness Stuff: A Day in the Life The Sims 4 Fitness Stuff: A Day in the Life

Meet Nichole, her wife Natalia, and their teenage son, Reese. Nichole is sporting the new dreadlocks hairstyle that came with Fitness Stuff while Natalia is keeping things casual with the new side ponytail. Reese is showing off the sleek sideswept ombre hairstyle that came with this pack. His beanie covers some of it right now but you’ll see the full hairstyle in just a little bit when the Baxters hit the gym. With the exception of Reese’s beanie and earring, everything you’ll see the Baxters wearing in this segment is from the new Fitness Stuff pack so keep an eye out for their trendy everyday and athletic wear.

The Sims 4 Fitness Stuff: A Day in the LifeI’ve just placed the Baxters in their new home in Newcrest and Reese already looks bored. Oh the trials and tribulations of teenage angst! We should fix that. How? A trip to the gym, of course!

The Baxters decide to head across town to the brand new FIT-X 24 Hour Gym for a good workout. Nichole and Natalia are hoping their moody son can get out some of his teenage frustrations through physical activity.

The Sims 4 Fitness Stuff: A Day in the Life

Natalia is an all-out fitness freak. She has the Bodybuilder aspiration and she’s always looking for a thrilling challenge to get her adrenaline pumping. She heads straight for the brand new rock wall. Health is important to Nichole, too, but she prefers a more relaxed, mindful approach to fitness. The yoga classes being offered at FIT-X are tempting for her, but she decides to try something new. She heads upstairs to check out some of the fitness videos on the gym’s TV.

The Sims 4 Fitness Stuff: A Day in the LifeReese needs a little extra motivation to start working up a sweat so he pops in his brand new earbuds and throws on his favourite Alternative tunes. The Electronica soundtrack playing on the gym’s speakers are just so not his taste.

Ah, he looks happier already! Nothing calms the hormonal teenage soul like the soothing sounds of electric guitars and guttural screaming. It looks like he’s finally ready to get into a nice long workout so he heads over to the newly designed treadmills to go for a run.

Just a quick tip! Earbuds can be purchased through the computer in a variety of colours, including metallic variants like gold. Once a Sim has the earbuds in his inventory, you can click on him and select the new music option to pick the genre you’d like him to listen to.

The Sims 4 Fitness Stuff: A Day in the LifeLet’s check on Nichole and see how she’s getting on with her Plumboomba routine.

It looks like she’s getting the hang of it! Look at her strutting her stuff across the floor like a pro. You keep rocking those sweet dance moves, Nichole! You’ll be fit and toned in no time at all with that kind of cardio activity.

Nichole finishes her Plumboomba routine but she’s feeling prettyThe Sims 4 Fitness Stuff: A Day in the Life energized from all that dancing and isn’t ready to hit the showers just yet. She decides to push the limits by exploring the new aerobics video while her wife and son are still in the zone downstairs. She has some trouble with this one at first. The instructors are just moving so fast. How do they jump up so easily after doing crunches?! They must be aliens. Soon, however, Nichole hits her stride and begins to leap to new heights. Literally! Look how high she can jump! She looks like a majestic swan taking flight.

The Sims 4 Fitness Stuff: A Day in the LifeCome to think of it, we haven’t checked in on Natalia since we left her on the rock wall, have we? Maybe we should go see how she’s doing. I hear the rock wall can be dangerous. Let’s make sure Natalia’s still okay.

Turns out, we didn’t need to worry about Natalia after all. It looks like she can handle this gentle setting on the rock wall without too much difficulty.

The Sims 4 Fitness Stuff: A Day in the LifeThere are more intense workout options available on the rock wall, including the endurance challenge, the vertical climb, and even an extreme setting that gets too hot for comfort as jets of fire shoot out of the wall at random that your Sim must quickly avoid. If she’s too slow, these fire jets can kill her! Talk about an extreme challenge! Since this was Natalia’s first time on the rock wall, she was only able to choose between the gentle and vertical climbs, but the more she uses the rock wall, more advanced (and dangerous) workout options will open up to her as she improves this hidden five-level skill.

Woops! Looks like Natalia lost her footing and stumbled, but she was quick to recover and pull herself back up. You go, girl! Take each obstacle in stride!

The Sims 4 Fitness Stuff: A Day in the LifeWhat’s Reese getting up to, anyway? I hope he’s staying out of trouble while his parents aren’t looking.

Oh there’s Reese! He’s still on the treadmill where we left him, sporting his trendy athletic wear that came with the Fitness Stuff pack. Those earbuds are really helping him focus on his workout. Nothing could possibly get in the way of Reese’s dedication to health and fitness now!

Well, nothing except pretty girls, anyway, it seems. The Sims 4 Fitness Stuff: A Day in the Life

The Sims 4 Fitness Stuff: A Day in the LifeWith their workouts completed, it’s time for the Baxters to shower off that layer of sweat and relax with a nice cold beverage. You’ve seen lots of Fitness Stuff objects around the gym while hanging out with the Baxters today, from wall coverings to windows to mirrors to the newly designed treadmill and weights. Right now, the Baxters are getting comfortable in some of the new Fitness Stuff seating in the gym’s front lobby. A few other Fitness Stuff items in the background here are the windows, the coffee table and the rug.

The Sims 4 Fitness Stuff: A Day in the LifeNatalia and Nichole sip on their drinks and tell each other all about how their workouts went. Next time, they’ll have to switch and see how Nichole handles the rock wall. Natalia wants to try out some of those Plumboomba moves, too. They ask Reese how his run on the treadmill went.

… Reese? Um, Reese?! Hello?!

Reese is totally tuning out his parents. He’s still wearing his earbuds and is rocking out in a world all his own.

Oh, Reese!

The Sims 4 Eco Living: Vote for Gameplay Features!

Via TheSims.com!

Hello Simmers! We’ve reached the most important moment in the development of this collaborative Stuff Pack project yet. Today you’ll be participating in a vote to determine what new gameplay features could be included within this Stuff Pack.

The Sims 4 Eco Living: Vote for Gameplay Features!

If you’re new to this project and find yourself wondering what this is all about, I’ll direct you to the welcome post in SimGuruGraham’s Corner on the official forums. There you’ll find information on what this project is, how far into development we are, and the votes that fellow Sims players have already participated in. After you catch up, be sure to come right back here to cast your vote!

In the time since the last vote, where you helped select 29 objects and 17 pieces of clothing for this pack, we’ve been buzzing here in the studio about what potential features we could include. With the Stuff Pack team gathered together in a room with a trusty white board, we brainstormed all the potential gameplay features that came to mind that could work with our theme. In a brainstorm, there are no bad suggestions – just a torrent of ideas for us to sift through.

The Sims 4 Eco Living: Vote for Gameplay Features!

As you can see, a whole bunch of initial possibilities came to mind. There’s a lot to consider here! Some are tried and true favorites from past Sims titles, while others would be brand new to the series. Unfortunately, these ideas can’t all move forward to the next step in our development process, where we write something that we call “design blurbs”. A design blurb is just a short design that’s only a few sentences in length. They exist to give the most basic idea of what we hope to accomplish. It isn’t until later, when we write the full design, where all the little details are added that make each feature truly special. Design blurbs also allow members of various development disciplines to provide a rough estimate of how long they think it will take them to implement their work for a feature. This is vital information that we use to determine what we can add during our development schedule, before work even begins. In the survey today, you’ll be reading design blurbs to determine which group of features you want to cast your vote for.

Before we can write these design blurbs, our designers and producers collaborate to pluck out the ideas we think have the most promise to deliver a great Stuff Pack. Our philosophy for Stuff Packs is to provide features that complement both the overall theme, and each other. We also take into account if our development schedule allows enough time to deliver upon the promise of a proposed feature. Then we consider if what we’re proposing fills a unique niche that’s currently lacking in The Sims 4. It’s also important for us to select features in Stuff Packs that can stand on their own – we recognize that there are many small quality of life additions that players request, but they’re generally a better fit as a supporting feature in a larger pack. Finally, we try and steer clear of features that we suspect a Game Pack or Expansion Pack may want to tackle in the future.

With that perspective in mind, it was fairly easy to eliminate some features from the brainstorm right off the bat, by knowing that they simply can’t be done within a Stuff Pack. From what remained, we pushed our favorites forward, using a mixture of designer intuition and player feedback to determine what could be compelling additions. Some clear themes stood out to us, and you’ll see those represented here in today’s vote.

Voting ends on June 26, 2017 at 10AM PT.

OFF THE GRID
An optional gameplay system for Sims who want to disconnect from the utilities grid, and instead choose to live off the land. Some gameplay feature ideas include:

– Off the Grid Lot Trait – When this lot trait is selected, the lot no longer receives electricity or water utilities. Bills are significantly reduced or eliminated altogether.
– Well Pump / Water Well – An object that provides a means of acquiring water. Sim would be required to occasionally pump water. An attached reservoir would display how much water is remaining to supply the lot before the well must be pumped again. If the reservoir is empty, objects requiring water become temporarily unusable if the Off the Grid lot trait is active. Reduces weekly bills, and has the potential to break or have upgrades.
– Solar Panels – An object that provides a means of acquiring power. Sim would be required to occasionally calibrate and clean the solar panel to ensure it can still supply enough power to the lot. If panels are not maintained, then objects requiring power become temporarily unusable if the Off the Grid lot trait is active. Reduces weekly bills, and has potential upgrades. (May look like a traditional solar panel or may appear to be a tree made of solar panels. Will be a ground placeable object only.)
– Wind Turbine – An object that provides a means of acquiring power. Sim would be required to occasionally calibrate and clean the wind turbine to ensure it can still supply enough power to the lot. If the wind turbine is not maintained, then objects requiring power become temporarily unusable if the Off the Grid lot trait is active. Reduces weekly bills, and has potential upgrades. (May look like a residential wind turbine on a pole or may appear to be a tree made of small wind turbines as leaves. Will be a ground placeable object only.)

FOOD PRESERVES
A collection of features that add new things to do with your harvestable fruits and vegetables, allowing your Sims to produce and store food for personal use or profit. Some gameplay feature ideas include:

– Canning & Preserving – A new counter-top Electric Canning Pot that allows Sims to take harvestables and preserve them for long term storage, or to make fresh jams. When a harvestable is preserved, the contents of the canning jar will no longer spoil. At any point, the Sim can retrieve the harvestables as fresh as the day they were canned. When fruit is turned into a jam, new recipes are available to make Toast and Jam, Bagel and Jam, or Scones with Jam.
– Nectar Making – A new Nectar Maker object, paired with the new Nectar Making Skill. Use of this object allows Sims to use grapes and other harvestables to create nectar, which can then be aged in Nectar Aging Racks to increase the value of the bottled nectar. New varieties of grapes would be available for planting and harvesting for Sims with the Gardening Skill.
– Superfood Harvestable Plant – A new harvestable plant. (Exact type of plant not yet determined.) Superfood would add new recipes, or have the option of being added to some existing recipes to make them healthier.

CARBON CONSCIOUS
A collection of features that allows Sims to reduce their carbon emissions in a variety of ways. Some gameplay feature ideas include:

– Freegan Trait – Sims with the freegan trait have interactions to rummage in large or small trash cans, and potentially elsewhere, to scrounge ingredients. Will include some new ingredients to discover. (Apple core, banana peel, etc.) New ingredients will be used to prepare some new recipes that Freegan Sims will love. Freegan Sims can eat spoiled food without getting sick. Freegan Sims always want to use the Composter object, and will receive special moodlets when doing so.
– Composter – An object that Sims can use to dispose trash, dead plants, spoiled food/harvestables, and to scrape the remains of meals into. As the composter is filled, the contents are converted into fertilizer. Fertilizer is then used on harvestables in accordance with the Gardening Skill.
– Recycling – Recycle Bins can be placed from Build Mode that function differently than trash cans. Sims with certain traits will prefer to use a recycle bin when available, and will receive special moodlets for doing so. Sims will have an option to rummage through existing trash cans to sort their contents for recycling. Sims will have an option to take the recycling they’ve collected to a recycle center – Sim will walk off the lot and disappear, and return a short while later with extra simoleons.

When this vote closes on Monday, we’ll know a whole lot more about what this pack will be, but we still won’t have the full picture. It’s important to note that as we write the full designs for the winning features, that things have the potential to change, and they invariably will. We’re confident we can deliver a fun experience no matter what the result in this feature vote, but the majority of work still lies ahead of us. After the votes are tallied we’ll start writing those full designs, which will comprehensively detail the entire experience that these features will offer. A full design means that each discipline on the Stuff Pack team can provide more accurate estimates of how much time they’ll need to work to implement these features. If estimates change, we have to go back and re-evaluate the features that have been approved. When full development of this pack ramps up in August, we’ll finally know if we need to make any cuts, or if we have room for any further additions. I’m certainly hoping for the latter – there are some great ideas from the brainstorm that are small in scope that we’d love to sneak in. As development progresses, we’ll be sharing with you every step of the way. You’ll not only hear about any changes we make, but the thought process that guided our decisions. Check back regularly in SimGuruGraham’s Corner on our forums to see all of the latest news about this project.

To close, I’ll leave you with dates for the remaining votes for this project. Circle your calendars and come back to make your voice heard!
