What was surprising was how transparent The Sims Team was with its fanbase about development of the new title, even going so far as to launch an early Sims 5 playtest.

There have been many updates about the development of Project Rene since then, most of them in the form of segments on the regular Behind The Sims events. Players are more curious than ever about what The Sims 5 will look like and it seems as if The Sims Team wants Simmers to be the ones leading the charge when it comes to the game’s overall direction.

The Sims 5 Playtest: Everything You Need to Know
While it might sound amazing to have the opportunity to play Project Rene long before the public does, it’s important to remember that not everyone is guaranteed to be selected as a playtester. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, given all the excitement surrounding the latest Project Rene playtest. Everyone is going to want a slice of the pie and there’s only so much pie to go around, so to speak.
Still, the only way to guarantee that you won’t get in on The Sims 5 playtest is if you never try in the first place, so it’s worth getting an application in if you’re interested.
Step 1: Login or Create an EA Account
Make sure you are logged in to your EA account. If you play The Sims 4 on either Origin or the EA App, you already have an EA account so just use those login details to access your account. If you don’t already have an EA account, you can sign up for one at EA.com.
You will need to be logged into your EA account in order to sign up to be a playtester.
Step 2: Access the Playtest Portal
Once you have your EA account set up and you are logged in, visit this page on the official EA website. It’s the playtester agreement page. You will need to read and agree to all of the terms outlined in order to access the Playtest Portal and we do recommend reading all the documents carefully to ensure you know what rules to abide by when playtesting EA’s games. They are linked on the web page but we will also link them here for you to read over.

Once you have read and checked all the boxes to state that you agree to the terms, you will be granted access to the Playtest Portal! YAY! You’re one step closer to having a shot at joining the next Sims 5 playtest!
Click Get Started and answer a few questions about your playtest preferences and contact information. It’s important that you answer all these questions because doing so increases your chances of being selected for a playtest. The more they know about what games you like to play, the better playtest offers they’ll be able to extend to you.
Step 3: Keep Your Eyes Peeled for Project Rene Playtests!
After answering the questions, you’ll now have access to your main profile page where you’ll be able to see news and updates, available playtests to join, and upcoming playtests that you’re involved with.
You’re not guaranteed to see Project Rene available to playtest. It all depends on whether The Sims Team has a playtest planned for the game, your playtest preferences, and how many spots are available to fill for The Sims 5 playtest.
