It may have released over a decade ago, but The Sims Team isn't slowing down production of The Sims 4 DLC in the slightest. With the leaked roadmap showing what's coming for the rest of the year, we now know this will be the most expensive year for players in terms of DLC releases.

However, I wouldn't be surprised if this record is beaten again next year. And the year after. And so on.

Overall Results

The Sims 4 DLC count overall:

  • Expansion Packs - 20
  • Game Packs - 12
  • Stuff Packs - 20
  • Kits - ~52

With the wording of the upcoming road map that has leaked, we know for sure that The Sims 4 DLC will include at least 5 more kits this year. Only one of them is named, Autumn Apparel, with the others just being labeled as upcoming "creator kits" and "kits" respectively. Since they're each plural we know we're getting at least two more of each, maybe more.

And, with the leak of The Sims 4 Adventure Awaits Expansion Pack expected to come out in October, we're back to expecting 3 Expansion Packs per year.

No matter how many kits release on November 6th and December 4th, it's already the most expensive year for The Sims 4 DLC by far. And we're not counting The Sims 1 + The Sims 2 Rereleases which came out this year. Nor the MySims Cozy Bundle which was released for PC.

Love it or hate it, The Sims 4 is here to stay for the foreseeable future with no signs of slowing down. Quite the opposite, actually.

$1500 and still the price of the base game for those who bought it in 2014 is not even included, for a totally buggy game that still lacks a lot of content and gameplay, I only have one word to say, bravo EA, we will finish the franchise at $3000, 200 extensions, and I am sure that there will still be elements missing.

While I love having so much content available for a variety of play styles, I just really want the game to be fixed. Weddings from My Wedding Story still aren’t fully functional. Dine Out is a complete mess. Not to mention all the ailment bugs with the Enchanted by Nature pack or the fact that For Rent is still bugged. I would prefer quality over quantity at this point. It seems like since they canceled Project Renee, they’re using Sims 4 as a cash grab and trying to get as much as they can out of it.

Project Rene isn’t canceled. They just gave an update on its development a few weeks ago.

and spoiler alert = the game still feels incomplete because the core foundation of the base game sucks…

  4. Nikkision

Well, if you bought everything made for sims 3 it would have cost almost $75,000, so…

I really doubt someone did buy everything. Besides, many of the items from the store are still extremely buggy as well. But that’s not a surprise anymore

Stop talking nonsense, I did a calculation, the base game + all the expansions + all the packs, all the worlds sims 3 gold edition, I got it for $850 with 50 times more content and gameplay, we are far from the $1500 for the sims 4, and you know what, it’s not over, wait a few more years, the bill will still climb.

They definitely overestimated how much the Sims 3 Store was, but your price doesn’t include all of the store content, which is several thousand dollars. Plus, even just going off of your $850 total for the packs and store worlds, that was spread across 6 years. Sims 4 has been spread across over 11 years by the time the $1500 total will be reached. So, that means Sims 3 and Sims 4 work out to be the same annual cost. If Sims 3 had continued production then we would have reached the costs of Sims 4 without the store as well, but the Sims 3 coding and foundation was incredibly bogged down and couldn’t be maintained and added to anymore so they had to move on. Sims 4 doesn’t have that issue because after almost 100 dlc it still runs just as fast for players as it did without dlc.

I don’t agree with you, what is this analysis, do you have the same amount of gameplay with the sims 4, no, the sims 3 offers thousands of possibilities, the sims 4 is an empty and soulless game, each expansion of the sims 3 was a renewal, each world in the store also offered gameplay, new stories, new families, elements, like a roller coaster with the walk, mechanics with the car to renovate, a casino, a market, dragons, the crossbow game, a hot air balloon,; there is not even 25% of the gameplay in the sims 4, for 1500$ it is intolerable, so the price quality ratio is 1000 times better on the sims 3, as for your rotten engine of the sims 4, it is so broken that it asks us to deactivate certain packs now, and there are hundreds of bugs year after year, and it is not these mini kits which are nothing at all which will save the game, let’s stop this massacre, you are paid by the site so no neutrality, I am even sure that you receive money from EA.

Not paid by EA or anyone for my opinions about the game. My opinions are my own. But my point isn’t about value for money or opinions on which game is better or fuller. My point is just cost, the whole point of this post and conversation. The cost for Sims 3 was actually higher than the cost for Sims 4 year over year. That’s an objective fact. You can have whatever opinions you want about which is better, but that’s completely aside from the point of this conversation. I’m using facts and you’re using opinions. And it’s funny how the second someone uses facts that go against your opinions you default to assuming the other party is being paid to go against you.

If you are only satisfied with the price, without judging the content, it means nothing to me, the store has always been optional, but if I follow your reasoning, I will never regret having put so much money into the sims 3 which I still play today, but believe me, I regret having put so much money into the sims 4 which I hardly play anymore, because this game is not worth this price in view of the content, unlike the sims 3 whether you like it or not, you never criticize the sims 4 when there is so much to say, this for me is not normal, we cannot accept such a price, $ 1500, it is a fact, and you can prove that the sims 3 were more expensive, I do not regret it, I have nothing to add.

A lot more stuff was produced for the sims 3, so obviously the price is higher I grant you that, but it’s also because the teams were much more inspired and creative, it’s perhaps another debate that you don’t want to address, but it has its importance, and it is also the origin of the gaps in the sims 4.

I criticize the game a lot, actually. Not sure where you got the idea that I never do. For instance, the naturopath career in the most recent expansion is the worst active career we’ve ever gotten and I don’t understand how they believed anyone would find it fun. Just because I’m not criticizing one specific thing that you are doesn’t mean I don’t criticize other aspects. Just because someone doesn’t have the exact opinions you have about something doesn’t mean they’re against you or a shill for the corporation. Hope that helps.

Not sure how you arrived at $75,000. The entire Sims 3 store is like $2k-something. Adding all of the EPs and SPs to that would bump it up to nearing 3k, for absolutely everything made for Sims 3? I think that’s about right.
