EA and The Sims Team have been loud and proud about new bug fixes and updates, as well as collaborations and events for The Sims 4, while also being eerily silent about the looming EA Buyout that was first rumored and reveal late-2025. They tend to not directly address the petitions, protests, and social media feedback while the deal with The Saudi PIF, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners (Led by Jared Kushner, Son-in-Law of US President Donald Trump).

The only time they did, however, was found in a leaked e-mail sent in April 2026 to creators still within the EA Creator network in response to Lilsimsie’s hosted livestream with US Representative Maxwell Frost, Zefrine, and Players Alliance to voice concerns and push to stop the EA Buyout.

While not yet finalized, the EA deal is supposed to go into full effect in the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2027, which begins on July 1st, 2026. Outside of the reputations and history of the Saudi PIF, Silverlake, Jared Kushner, and Affinity Partners, rumors also seem to be that Generative AI will be more heavily used in the development and upkeep of Electronic Arts’ titles, including but not just limited to The Sims and Project Rene.
With the growing use of Generative AI across multiple industries but especially Technology and Gaming, both politicians and consumers worry about rising costs of games and technology to run them, as well as layoffs and cuts of employees, even entire teams and studios behind beloved gaming titles and pieces of tech.

The deal is also being reviewed separately under the bloc’s merger rules. The Commission, which will assess the deal under its Foreign Subsidies Regulations aimed at preventing unfair non-EU subsidies to companies looking to acquire rivals in the 27-country bloc or taking part in public tenders, set a July 30 deadline for its decision. The EU competition enforcer can clear the deal unconditionally after its preliminary review, or it can open a full-scale investigation if it has serious concerns.
