EA has just released their Q3 2020 Financial Report, sharing some details about the progress and sales of their games during the last 4 months.

During these 4 months The Sims 4 was able to hit a new milestone – over 20 million unique players!

  • Digital net bookings* for the trailing twelve months was $4.128 billion, up 15% year-over-year and now represents 77% of total net bookings.
  • During the quarter, EA launched Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville™, Need for Speed™ Heat and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order™.
  • FIFA Ultimate Team™ matches were up nearly 40% year-over-year from launch through Q3.
  • During the quarter, The Sims™ 4 surpassed 20 million unique players worldwide life-to-date.

To put some things in perspective, according to the Wikipedia’s List of best selling PC-Games, here’s how the previous Sims games performed:

  • The Sims 1 – 11 million copies
  • The Sims 2 – 6 million copies
  • The Sims 3 – 7 million copies

There are also a few things to note regarding on why The Sims 4 is doing so well. First of all, the game was free for 7 days back in May 2019. Also, the exact same version of the base game was made available for two consoles – Xbox One and PS4.

We’ll keep you updated with more information on our website after the earnings call!

Even being released across multiple platforms as well as the sales, 20 million units is still quite the impressive feat, over triple of Sims 3.

That’s disappointing, but understandable concerning how aggressively EA has been pushing it and even giving it away for free. I’d be more curious how many people have played it, and for how long. And more subjectively….if they like it. The review sites paint a very two-dimensional people of TS4 getting mediocre reviews. I wonder if that’s still the case.

Nope

Sims 1: PC/Mac only, over the course of 3 years and 8 months.

Sims 2: PC/Mac only, over 4 years.

Sims 3: PC/Mac only, over 4 years and 4 months.

Sims 3: PC/Mac, PS4 AND Xbox, over 5 years and 4 months.

This is not surprising at all. ANY game’s gonna beat its predecessors when it’s given an entire year longer than the last entry, AND 2 fully-fledged ports on home consoles in addition to being PC/Mac only.

The only thing Maxis needed to do to make a hit game with TS4 was to make a more functional, better-looking version of TS2/TS3. Instead, they stripped it down and removed a ton of things we all loved. Literally all they need to do with TS5 is remake a combination of TS2 and TS3 but with much better functionality and graphics- it’ll be a guaranteed hit. I could not care less about multiplayer or online options- if I want to talk to other people about the Sims, there are plenty of options. Like other people have said, the online competitions and challenges are mostly a response to the lack of interesting gameplay/replayability in TS4.
And I agree with the other comments. We need babies that aren’t utterly useless, cars, open worlds, the design tool, and about a million other things from TS3 that were awesome. I don’t understand why they keep trying to remake the wheel. Just FIX the wheel! That’s it! That’s all you need to do!

The sims 4 could be better than what it is , consider its been out for so long . Instead of adding all those stupid packs and making people pay for stuff . You could have made it muiltplayer mode but no ea STOLE the game from maxis maybe most of your players for the sims 4 is children nobody that use to play it , plays the game anymore because it sucks . I know i am angry that i wasted unreasonable amount of money on this game and i still am not enjoying it . so EA can do better by thinking that this is the best base game out of 2020. because thats a lie
