Mods

There are countless mods available to add into your game. Some expand on features already in the game, some allow you to manipulate and cheat aspects of the game and some even add new gameplay and options into the game. There really is such a large variety of mods out there. Below are a few of the mods that we recommend for The Sims 4.

You can also find more Mods for The Sims 4 via these links.

Custom Content

Likewise, with Mods for The Sims 4, there are thousands upon thousands of pieces of Custom Content available for The Sims 4. There are two different kinds of Custom Content, Alpha and Maxis Match. Alpha custom content looks more realistic whereas Maxis Match fits The Sims 4 style. You can stick to one style or have a mix of the two. It really is up to you.

Below are some links to some Custom Content sites.

NOTE: When adding custom content or mods into your game do so with caution and ensure you have read all of the installation instructions prior to adding it to your game. It is also important to note that when the game receives a new patch that you back up your saves and remove you mods folder from the game. It is also a good idea to ensure all your mods and custom content are up to date at this time as well.

The Sims 4 Essentials: Expansion Pack, Game Pack and Stuff Pack we recommend

Just getting started with The Sims 4? Here are 3 different pack types we recommend getting!

Are you just getting started with The Sims 4 thanks to the fact that it’s free-to-claim for the next 7 days? Do you want to expand The Sims 4 universe with official new content and features? You’ve come to the right place!

Before I begin, let me briefly explain the purpose of each pack for The Sims 4 and what they exactly do:

  • An Expansion Pack is the biggest pack type out there that often features a brand new world, new clothing and objects, a whole lot of new features and interactions that usually have a much deeper affect on the entire gameplay. They cost $39.99
  • A Game Pack brings almost the same things as an Expansion Pack – new items, sometimes a brand new world and extensive gameplay that’s usually tied into one strict theme. They cost $19.99
  • A Stuff Pack is brings exactly what their title suggests – new stuff including CAS items, Build Items and a gameplay object or two that bring new interactions. They cost $9.99

Now that we’ve clarified to what each pack brings let’s get down to business as I give recommendations for each pack type!

Essential Expansion Pack – Seasons

The Sims 4 Seasons Expansion Pack is one of those packs that could’ve been included into the base game but luckily aren’t – and that’s for a good reason. Seasons was under development for quite a while for obvious reasons – the team had to bring 4 different seasons for each world (including worlds introduced with other packs) as well as feature a complex calendar feature.

Each Season can get quite unpredictable and you never know what each day will bring. From extremely hot to extremely cold temperatures to storms and strong winds, The Sims 4 Seasons will keep your Sims on their toes checking the forecast every now and then. Of course that the weather won’t be going crazy 24/7 and you can expect enrichened vistas and gorgeous views quite often.

The Calendar is probably one of the biggest reasons that make The Sims 4 Seasons an essential pack. Not only does it give you the ability to create your own holiday from scratch with numerous activities and interactions but with the calendar you can also plan out the entire week (and month) of your Sim’s activities by planning events, checking out your Sims’ work / school schedule and holidays that are coming up.

The Sims 4 Essentials: Expansion Pack, Game Pack and Stuff Pack we recommend

If you don’t have The Sims 4 Seasons then you can’t go wrong by making this purchase.

Essential Game Pack – Parenthood

The Sims 4 Parenthood Game Pack is one of those rare packs in the entire Sims Franchise that make the entire gameplay a lot more difficult – which is a good thing. Toddlers, Kids and Teens with this pack will have the opportunity to work on 5 different Character Values that will shape their future and make their adult days more easy or difficult, depending on how well you’ve worked on their upbringing.

Still, your younger Sims are not the only ones that get new gameplay. Adults and Elders also get a whole lot of new meaningful interactions, as well as a new Parenting Skill that allows the parents to be more influental and controling over their children.

Parenthood is probably one of the most complex packs we’ve gotten in a long time and for a Game Pack that’s $19.99 it’s no wonder it’s the most popular Game Pack that there currently is right now.

Essential Stuff Pack – Laundry Day

The Sims 4 Laundry Day Stuff Pack sounds like the most boring pack you could possibly recommend to another person, but there’s a good reason why this pack was chosen, affected and brought together by The Sims Team and The Community together.

Yes, the only new gameplay you get with Laundry Day are a new washing and drying machine, as well as a washing bucket and a clothline for those who prefer a more rural lifestyle. Still, this pack has some of the finest community-picked objects and Create A Sim items that we’ve seen in the entire Stuff Pack lineup we have (thus far).

The Sims 4 Essentials: Expansion Pack, Game Pack and Stuff Pack we recommend

If you want to get these packs altogether I suggest you bundle up using Origin’s Build Your The Sims 4 Bundle Feature. Getting these packs in bundle will save you 30% off the total cost!

How I got back into the groove with The Sims 4

The year was 2014, which, looking back in my own experience is surprisingly long time, and yet, it doesn’t feel that long either. Anyway, the year was 2014, the month was September, I’ve just begun attending the first of my courses for game design (that panned out GREAT in case you’re asking, I write sarcastically), and on the horizon was a brand-new game that I was anticipating, for you see, The Sims 4 is just about to come out! I was excited, I think, obsessing over the two Create a Sim and Build Mode showcase trailers like mad, the first full UI trailer was also amazing, I was in love, somehow, which is quite ironic given what was to come, it’s also even funnier, I pre-ordered, but I do remember my older brother telling me “I’m jumping too easily on the hype train”, but he doesn’t know.

For you see my dear readers, what I was completely oblivious to be the relationship I was about to build with The Sims 4. I love it as much as I hate it, but that wouldn’t be reality until later in the story.

The game finally came out… and I disliked it. I just couldn’t get into it! See, serves me right for creating a manic eight sim family out of the gate (what was I thinking?) That did disappoint me a little, I was so hyped, and, I didn’t get what I wanted. It was the first red flag, but once ghosts (or was it the pool update?) I decided to change gears, instead of focusing on a huge family, I just picked a single sim. This was back when the game was BARE bones, Johnny Zest was known as… Zest Johnny, for… some strange reason? Back then, there were no toddlers, no basements, no Newcrest, the game was… simplistic, and looking back, it did not look great to be honest, The Sims 4 was divisive.

How I got back into the groove with The Sims 4

I started a new game at the end of October, and for the first time in the ENTIERITY of me playing with The Sims, I would not stop playing until Outdoor Retreat came out in early January, it was, and I am not exaggerating, the peak of my life at the time, everything was great. For you see, I suffer from depression, a severe one, as well as anxiety. And The Sims 4 came out shortly after the darkest page of my life, so The Sims 4 was actually a strong escape, paired up with the amazing course I was doing where I learned a lot about both Animation and Game Design (surprisingly no programming, don’t ask), I was flying high, and my experience with that game was amazing, I still can recall the sims I had.

The first family (the one that failed) had eight sims, one of those sims was the brother, he was this sad, gloomy aspiring painter, and I decided to make him my main, because The Sims 4 to this day lacks a Story Progression, I also adopted the Rotational Gameplay, which back then was perfect, since there wasn’t much to do in the game (seriously how did people fill up mansions!?).

He had a great life, he married Zest Johnny, adopted a baby girl Krista, who then married Alexander Goth, while Alexander’s sister Cassandra married Malcolm (and Malcolm’s parent had a baby brother Alfonso, who had triplets with Olivia Spencer-Kim-Lewis as she was known back then before the developers realised it exceeded their character limit). And it was an amazing time, and a lot of it I used to think was because of the simplicity of the game. The game ran amazing (which, to my surprise the game still does a good job, I still have the same specs as back then), the new toys were amazing (I loved building, many of my O.G builds are still on my Gallery, at TheMarshyBear, check me out and follow me), and it was just, smooth, no problems, no game-breaking glitches, I adapted to what the game offered back then.

But there was something I was unaware of that was happening in my save game, I mean, there were no toddlers so Sims grew up fairly fast to be perfectly honest and Sims themselves lived like, four days shorter than they do now, but, I started noticing that my saving and my loading would slowly start to take longer…and longer… and longer to save. Before I knew, the game was BLOATED. To this day I don’t know with what, I think it may have had something to do with my tendency to annihilate all the ugly Townies that game insisted on generating? I think they finally fixed that now, it’s hard to tell, some Townie tools would be AMAZING, like specifying what roles they fill (seriously Gurus, I’m sitting on a gold mine of a game if you just reach out to me!)

But, the paradise was not to last. Once Outdoor Retreat came out, it triggered an intense dislike of the game, and I was about to enter a love-hate relationship with the game for the next 4 years. It’s funny. Because I finally after FOUR years managed to get back to game.

Outdoor Retreat was the first of the many major packs that added a mechanic or a system that heavily depended on travelling, but with Vanilla Sims 4, this wasn’t a need, and I could focus my obsessive need to control all of my household easily without worrying or needing to travel, but the next few packs really made it difficult to achieve control (especially with the subconscious min-maxing opportunities with aspiration goals and performance goals). The game would be unbearable.

How I got back into the groove with The Sims 4

When Get Together came out, I remember building the amazing mansion that was favourited by Maxis (my proudest moment to be perfectly honest), but I remember starting a new game, with a huge family, it failed miserably, the control wasn’t too bad, but it was just the fact that to enjoy clubs I had to keep travelling, and when returning, my Sims were all over the place (they’re still are to be frankly honest), but back then it just irritated the plum out of me. I needed full control of my sims 24/7, they didn’t have that much time really. And then again for Seasons. And it’s just, I remember trying hard to get into it, and being frustrated by my failures, because the game was getting so much awesome content I didn’t get to play, and I just kept failing. And I think a lot of my hate towards the game came from my frustrations because it didn’t suit me.

How I got back into the groove with The Sims 4

But lately, a part of me came back that needed The Sims 4 again, and I started to enjoy it.

My life has taken a rather unfortunate turn, I dropped out of college and really don’t have much of a path to go to, and I’m stuck in this limbo, and have a lot of time on my hands, and I think in a twisted turn of events, Sims 4 managed to fill a void I have. Which is even more beautiful given that it was like scientifically proven that playing Sims makes you happy?

Few weeks back as of writing the article, I made a random Sim, I didn’t build a huge back story, I just went with my gut. She became a writer. The idea was that she was there to gather inspiration in Strangerville but I quickly realised how much money she was making and the next thing I know she moves into San Myshuno, married Salim Benali, and have three kids (Aurora, Neda and Hero), and I finally had something that I thought I lost for good with this strange game. And now I just finished playing with the Villareal for the first time, and had the best time (although Goths really do pain me to say they frustrate the plum out of me, how? They’re royalty!?), and I’m looking forward to what the next few families hold for me, and seeing my little world evolve.

How I got back into the groove with The Sims 4

I don’t know what really changed between then and now, but I think it was just need, the game isn’t about getting everyone to be perfect, like I played back then, but now it is to just forget about what’s around me, just for few hours, and let my mind rest.

Life can be hard, and Sims is truly an amazing game that helped million of players. It is for everyone, whether you like to burn your sims, build them mansions, go from rags to riches, or just experiment.

Until next time.

The Sims 4: Minimalist Bedroom Fanmade Custom Stuff Pack Now Available

The custom content community has been hard at work to fill the void we’ve all been feeling ever since the release of the last official Stuff Pack for The Sims 4 – My First Pet Stuff, which came out a year and two months ago.

Just a few weeks ago the Pufferhead Custom Stuff Pack by MLys came out, bringing a huge amount of Maxis Match items for players to enjoy in. Now, there’s another great Custom Stuff Pack that’s all about bringing more items for your Sims’ bedrooms!

Creator IllogicalSimmer has put together an amazing Custom Stuff Pack set of over 25 new items that are completely Maxis Match, meaning that they completely fit in with The Sims 4’s art style. The set includes both new functional items and decor that have at least over 10 different color swatches.

This Custom Content set only requires The Sims 4 Base Game to work! You can install it by downloading the .zip file we’ve linked within the download button down below.

Installing this set is very easy. Simply extract the .zip content to Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods folder and make sure you’ve enabled Custom Content / Mods in your Game Options. There isn’t a new Pack Filter with this Custom Content Stuff Pack considering it’s, well, Custom Content, but you are able to search through the new items by searching for [Minimalist Bedroom] in the Build Mode search menu (brackets included).

POSSIBLE LEAK: The Sims 4 Tropical Paradise could be the next Expansion Pack!

Instant-Gaming.com, a gaming retail website that sells game codes has published a rather interesting listing on their website regarding the upcoming pack for The Sims 4.

They’ve listed The Sims 4 Tropical Paradise as the upcoming Expansion Pack for The Sims 4. This is the first listing for The Sims 4’s 7th Expansion Pack and we all know that The Sims Team definitely plans to release one among a new Game Pack and a Stuff Pack as well.

We’ve also speculated that The Sims 4’s 7th Expansion Pack could be coming out this June taking in consideration numerous evidence from voice actors and the announcement that there’s going to be a big system update for The Sims 4 this June.

This *could* be a valid retail leak considering that Instant-Gaming has previously listed bundles for The Sims 4 way before they were announced with some of the listings even mentioning the correct release date.

The listing for The Sims 4 Tropical Paradise Expansion Pack doesn’t contain much evidence just yet. The only thing they’ve shown is that the release is set for 2019 as well as an edited box art that contains the name and the pack type.

UPDATE: The description mentioned down below was taken from an idea thread over on The Sims Forums. Instant-Gaming has a tendency to fill their listings with unofficial information so we can for sure confirm that the description down below doesn’t mean anything.

The Sims 4: Tropical Paradise includes:
-A new beach world based on Spanish/Caribbean islands and Hawaii
-New radio stations – Reggae and calypso
-New harvestables – Pineapple and coconut
-New dance moves – Hula dance
-New objects – Lounge chairs and surfing station
-New skills – Surfing, hula dancing
-New aspirations – Surfer
-New traits – Loves water, hates water

POSSIBLE LEAK: The Sims 4 Tropical Paradise could be the next Expansion Pack!

We’ll make sure to keep you posted on more information on this listing and the next Expansion Pack as it gets available.

The Sims 4: Simulation Lag Fix Mod has received an Update

9

A few years ago we wrote about the Simulation Lag Fix Mod which fixes many glitches in The Sims 4 related to response time. The mod was developed by simmythesim but for some reason the update stopped receiving updates along with The Sims 4 Patches for PC and Mac.

Luckily modder SrslySims decided to lift up the mod and make it fully functional for The Sims 4’s latest version.

The mod has been tested and is functioning properly with The Sims 4’s current version. You can get it by simply clicking the download button down below and extracting the contents to Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods folder. Considering that this is a script mod you’ll need to enable both Mods / CC and Script Mods in your game options in order to have this mod working.
