Let’s talk about what happened in The Community…

32

In case you don’t know or haven’t read the full discussions and tweets shared across Twitter and other social media platforms, one of the members of the EA Game Changers Program has broken all the rules – both the ones that should be the concern of EA and the law enforcement. This EA Game Changer was crossing the lines of civil behavior and was harassing and sending out sexually explicit messages to minors over private conversations on social media.

The affected minors have contacted both SimGuruKate, Community Manger for The Sims over Twitter and SimGuruSteve, Maxis Build Engineer over Discord in late December 2018 (right when EA’s offices closed down for the holiday) to express their concerns about this Game Changer. Although SimGuruKate has confirmed to one of the minors that the situation “has been taken care of” and that “it won’t happen again” – recent proof has shown that for some reason this EA Game Changer wasnt removed from the program after the first report. The situation is even more confusing considering that there was a similar allegation against a different EA Game Changer sometime during Summer 2018 where immediate action was taken and the content creator had to step down from the program.

SimGuruLyndsay, General Manager of The Sims Franchise went to Twitter to both explain the situation and tell what their current actions are to prevent this from happening again:

SimGuruKate has retweeted this tweet with a message saying that she won’t be able to comment on this situation for now considering that it’s now a part of an internal investigation over at EA:

Two days ago one of the victims of this Game Changer’s behavior was willing to reach out to me to elaborate on the situation:

[Game Changer] messaged me one night at three in the morning saying “Go to sleep!” to which I replied, “i never sleep”. He then out of the blue said “That was weird,” and when I asked what it was about, he told me about the dream that he had which is extremely inappropriate considering his rank as EA Game Changer. He continued talking to me for a couple days after until I contacted a friend and he told Kate, who said that [Game Changer] might not have known I was sixteen (which sounds stupid since I have numerous YouTube videos where I mention my age – ESPECIALLY my birthday video). That was all Kate said in the conversation, though I don’t blame her at all for what happened as if I was in her place I would have done the same given the circumstance. SimGuruSteve was also contacted, to which he said he couldn’t discipline “private” conversations between two people despite knowing it was sexual harrassment (and also knowing both our ages). I have yet to see anything said by Steve as it’s disappointing that everyone blames Kate for doing her job.

I believe Kate was doing her job given what she had been sent by the person who contacted her in December 2018. She knew [Game Changer]‘s age however I do agree that I didn’t place anywhere other than in one of my YouTube videos about my age so it is possible he had no idea how old I actually was. SimGuruSteve told this user that private conversations cannot be disciplined, although he knew I was underage and that [Game Changer] was 27.

Kate is a lovely person and I know if she had been given more information as to [Game Changer] knowing my age and such that she would have a more appropriate response. It upsets me that she’s being blamed completely whereas nobody knows what Steve said nor do they understand that they couldn’t have fully disciplined him. She did although tell him to apologise to me, which he did a day or so after she was DM’ed.

If I’m honest, I do sort of blame myself for not doing anything about the situation though. It sucks that he was talking to me for months after he first got told to apologise. I didn’t talk to him for a couple weeks until one day I felt bad (thank you anxiety) and had to message so I could apologise. I sort of think it was manipulation too since he would always shout me out, make me feel good about myself and my videos.

On a more personal note, I have been AFK during this whole situation due to the much needed vacation I booked a few months ago.

I’m deeply disappointed that a situation like this has striked a loving community full of creators, storytellers and a plethora of diverse players. As an EA Game Changer myself I am mortified that a person like this was a part of this program. This is a person who I managed to meet up with in real life a few months ago and who was also watching and supporting my livestreams and never would I have guessed that this person would be capable of doing such things.

I am truly sorry for all affected by the behavior of this Game Changer and I hope The Sims Team is doing the right things to prevent this from happening again.

EA Play 2019 Announced

9

EA have announced that EA Play will be returning for 2019. The event which is in its fourth year, will be running from the 7th-9th June at the Hollywood Palladium.

You can find out more in the article from EA below.

via EA.com

2019 will mark our fourth year of EA PLAY. What we envisioned as a celebration of play has become an incredible moment that we love to share with the community each year. We are so grateful for all our fans who have joined us, and we look forward to making this year an even better experience.

This year you’ll see less talk and more play, with an event entirely focused on the heartbeat of EA PLAY: our player communities and the games they love.

  • First hands-on with some of our biggest games.
  • Exclusive content from some of the most popular creators in the world.
  • Free for all to attend.

It all starts this year on Friday night, June 7, 2019, with an all-new EA PLAY kickoff event. We’re skipping the press conference this year and are replacing it with multiple live streams that will air during the first two days of the event, bringing you more of what you’ve told us you want – more gameplay and insights from the teams making the games.

Weekends are meant for play, and this year we’ve moved the EA PLAY fanfest to Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9 where players will get hands-on with our games. We’ll also have content creators streaming live from our Creator’s Cave in the Hollywood Palladium providing gameplay content to our players viewing online. EA.com will be the home for all online EA PLAY content. Players can get behind-the-scenes with our games via exclusive gameplay reveals, developer talks and breaking news.

But that’s enough talk for now, we’ve got plenty more to show in the months ahead.

Tickets will be available next month, so stay tuned over the coming weeks and months to learn more about EA PLAY 2019, including the games, ticket availability, program schedule and more.

The Sims 4 StrangerVille: Life After The StrangerVille Story

Presented by EA Game Changers

The Sims 4 StrangerVille is the first add-on pack for the main series of The Sims PC franchise to introduce a story mode. The StrangerVille Mystery story is a huge component of the gameplay that comes with this pack. Naturally, this leaves some Simmers wondering about StrangerVille’s replay value. What is there to do after your Sim has played through the main story? Is StrangerVille just a one-time novelty?

I was curious about this, myself. As excited as I was about a story-driven pack, it was also important to me that StrangerVille be something I could enjoy long after the story was over. I didn’t want to lose the immersive sandbox experience The Sims is known and loved for. I decided to spend some time in StrangerVille after completing the story to see exactly what life after StrangerVille was like, focusing on things my Sims could do with StrangerVille content outside of the story.

Professional Freelance Spy?

The Sims 4 StrangerVille: Life After The StrangerVille Story

I absolutely loved being able to plant bugs and spy on conversations during the story, but I was worried this feature would be completely useless once the story was over. I was pleasantly surprised to see that I was wrong. Sims can continue using the bugs and surveillance station after the story ends to build the Logic skill and make a tidy profit on the side.

Sims can plant a bug on any Sim they meet, not just Military Personnel and Scientists. Listening in on their conversations with the surveillance station can turn up lots of surprising and juicy tidbits of information. Once your Sim has an audio recording of a Sim in their inventory, they can either keep it as evidence to sell at the Curio Shop, or use it to blackmail the Sim for some simoleons.

My Sim planted a bug on poor unsuspecting Cassandra Goth and recorded her confessing to theft. When my Sim invited her over, she blackmailed Cassandra using the audio recording she’d recovered and Cassandra coughed up a little over 100 to keep her secret quiet. Considering that the bugs cost 25 a piece, there’s potential to make a living off of spying on Sims, or at least earn a bit of extra money on the side.

Join the Military

The Sims 4 StrangerVille: Life After The StrangerVille Story

The Military career is tied to the main story, but your Sims can rise to the top of this career without ever touching the story. Your Sims also don’t need to be in the military in order to play through the story. The Military career is a fully functioning career outside of the story. Your Sims can enjoy all the benefits of this brand new career no matter what world they live in or how involved they are with the StrangerVille Mystery.

The Military career functions the same way as the Style Influencer career in the base game. Your Sim can choose to disappear off the lot to go work a shift, or stay home and complete a series of career goals each day in order to progress. One perk of the Military career that I personally love is the ability to earn medals and badges, which can be shown off in a special display case your Sim receives early on in the career as a reward.

Admiring the medals in the display case gives your Sims a Confident moodlet, so it’s a good way to give their mood a quick boost.

Sparring

The Sims 4 StrangerVille: Life After The StrangerVille Story

One of the new gameplay objects that comes with StrangerVille is the new B64 Training Bot. The function of the bot is similar in concept to the base game punching bag, but the Training Bot is much more advanced and comes with its own set of original animations. It’s not just a recolour of the punching bag. It functions as a completely new object.

The Training Bot is linked to the Military career but Sims don’t have to be in the Military career to use the Training Bot. Any Sim can practice sparring with the bot and even have a friend join in on their practice session. Sparring with the Training Bot builds the Athletic skill. Sims in the Military career can also practice giving orders to the Training Bot to build their Charisma skill. Giving orders is the only interaction on the Training Bot that is limited to Sims in the Military career.

There is another variation of the B64 Training Bot that can be unlocked by progressing in the Military career.

Cash in on Evidence

The Sims 4 StrangerVille: Life After The StrangerVille Story

Even though StrangerVille has been saved, there are plenty of Sims in StrangerVille who are very interested in gathering all the info they can about exactly what happened at that Secret Lab. Your Sim can continue gathering evidence around town to sell at the Curio Shop to make some extra cash.

Selling evidence to the Curio Shop is not only a fun pastime, but can prove to be a decent way to make a living if your Sim is dedicated enough to the cause. Become a secret informant to all the local Conspiracy Theorists at your own leisure.

Bizarre Botany

The Sims 4 StrangerVille: Life After The StrangerVille Story

Those pesky plants that were causing all kinds of problems may be harmlessly dormant now, but for the passionate botanists among us, these bizarre plants can be grown, cultivated, and harvested even after the story is over. Purchase a few bizarre fruit from the Curio Shop and plant them at home. Water and care for them like you would with any of your other plants and watch them flourish. Fertilize them to increase their quality and value.

When it’s harvest time, it’s best not to ask too many questions about exactly what your buyers intend to do with your stock of bizarre fruit you’re selling…

Cure or Infect Sims

The Sims 4 StrangerVille: Life After The StrangerVille Story

Vaccines and bizarre fruit are still available after the story is finished. This allows you to continue playing with the hidden Infected trait as much or as little as you want for as long as you want. Are there still a few Sims wandering about spewing cryptic nonsense about “The Mother” that you’d rather not deal with anymore? Craft a few vaccines and return them to their normal selves.

Or perhaps StrangerVille has gotten a little too boring as of late and you’re looking to make things interesting again. Just feed some bizarre fruit to Sims to give them the hidden Infected trait and watch madness ensue in StrangerVille once again! How strange or normal StrangerVille becomes after the story is finished is completely up to you.

Enjoy Unique Weather Phenomena

The Sims 4 StrangerVille: Life After The StrangerVille Story

We won’t spoil anything for anyone reading this before finishing the story, but suffice it to say, there is a way to adjust the weather in StrangerVille when the story ends. Even if you don’t have the Seasons expansion pack, you’ll be able to enjoy either a little or a lot of freaky weather patterns while in StrangerVille. Adjust to your desired level of weirdness as often as you like. Being able to control the weather in StrangerVille is perfect for telling your stories your way.

Lead a Normal Life

The Sims 4 StrangerVille: Life After The StrangerVille Story

Just because StrangerVille is strange, that doesn’t mean all the Sims who live there have to be. StrangerVille is a fully residential world with 11 editable lots that are yours to do whatever you want with. Don’t forget; StrangerVille is an add-on pack that’s meant to integrate into the rest of your Sims’ lives.

Move in or just visit if you like. Meet new Sims. Make friends. Get married and raise a family. Pursue hobbies and enjoy content from any other add-on packs you might own while enjoying everything StrangerVille has to offer at the same time. Anything you can do in the rest of the game, you can do in StrangerVille, too!

Any StrangerVille content that can be used outside the main story that we missed? Let us know in the comments or on social media!
