If you were possibly expecting a new update for The Sims 4 on PC / Mac / Console then we have some potential bad news for you – there won’t be any.
SimGuruKate has confirmed that The Sims Team won’t be releasing any updates for The Sims 4 on any platforms during the month of January.
I think it got lost in all the conversation over the last 24 hours, but I can confirm that there will be no patch for TS4 on PC/Mac or Console for the month of January.
The Sims 2 is a timeless game that still many simmers like to revisit and play form time to time. After all – it’s one of the best selling PC games of the 21st century! However, you can’t help but wonder what effort and process did it take to create such a popular game.
A few weeks ago The Plumbob Hellscape managed to uncover an interesting .pdf file released by Andrew Willmott, one of the developers who worked on The Sims 2 since its first days of development. Down below you can check out some of the never-before seen images of The Sims 2 during it’s development days. We’ll be explaining these images more right below the image gallery and also try to sum up some of the interesting facts about The Sims 2’s development that were mentioned in the document.

The Sims 2 started with development in early 2000.
The team at the beginning of development was consisted of only 5-20 people, but as the time has gone by it’s been expanded with 250 people working on the game.
The game was originally planned for release in January 2004 but was delayed to September 2004.
The team wasn’t able to develop pools in time for the planned January 2004 release – luckily the release date delay helped them create the pools feature from scratch.
The Sims 2 was shipped with 4 CDs, 11,000 animations, 1.1 million lines of code, 2,400 UI images and 1GB of sound data.
Maxis relied on Sims 1 textures and animations on the beginning of the development but the game was shipped with 100% original assets and textures made for The Sims 2.
A Sim’s animation skeleton was built with 27 facial targets, 64 weighted bones and 116 bones in total, including grips and other registration points.
Artists were not locked down on the polygon count.
The developers had a lot of ambitious plans which left them scrambling them at the end of base game development.
The team had big pressure from EA.
Developers weren’t really sure how much new stuff and features were enough for the game.
You can check out the full, 83-page document that explains and talks more about the development process, challenges and obstacles HERE!

Enthusiast Gaming, an online community website that focuses toward gamers and connecting multiple large scale gaming websites has announced on January 7th, 2019 that they’ll be acquiring The Sims Resource for 20 Million USD.
In case you don’t know what The Sims Resource is – it’s one of the most popular Sims Websites that host custom content for all The Sims Games – from The Sims 1 to The Sims 4. The acquisition won’t affect The Sims Resource nor the content uploaded to it at the moment and we’re hoping it’ll stay that way.
Enthusiast Gaming has issued a press release about this acquisition and what it means for the future. Check it out:
TORONTO, ONTARIO, January 7, 2019– Enthusiast Gaming Holdings Inc. (“Enthusiast” or the “Company”) (TSXV: EGLX), is pleased to announce that it has, through a wholly-owned subsidiary, signed a definitive agreement on January 3, 2019 (the “Agreement“) for the Company to acquire 100% of the assets of The Sims Resource (“TSR”) from Generatorhallen AB and IBIBI HB (the “Vendors”) on an arm’s length basis for US$18 million in cash and US$2 million in stock for an aggregate purchase price of US$20 million (the “Purchase Price“). Thirty percent (30%) of the Purchase Price is payable on closing and the balance payable by the first anniversary date of closing, subject to certain customary adjustments (the “Transaction“). Completion of the Transaction is subject to satisfaction of a number of customary conditions, including the approval of the TSX Venture Exchange and is expected to close prior to February 15, 2019.
THE SIMS RESOURCE
Established in 1999, TSR (www.thesimsresource.com) has grown to become the world’s largest female video gaming content and community destination online.[1]The website offers custom content built around the popular Sims™ video game franchise, which can be downloaded by users to alter and/or expand gameplay. Published by Electronic Arts, The Sims™ franchise has sold nearly 200 million copies worldwide and is widely considered one of the best-selling video games series of all time.
“The Sims Resource is one of the largest video game communities, ranking in the top 5 independent sites in total views in the US, Canada and the UK. It currently generates more than 10% of the total views of Twitch.com, the largest video game website, which was acquired by Amazon in 2014 for approximately US$1 billion,” said Menashe Kestenbaum, CEO of Enthusiast Gaming (Source: Comscore Media MetrixMulti-Platform/®, Games – Gaming Information, Total Views, November 2018, U.S., Canada, U.K.). “Further, with the rapidly growing female video game segment, TSR provides us with immediate reach into this valuable audience.”
TSR is the largest female video gaming content site in the world generating in excess of 2.5 billion page views per year (Google Analytics);
Comscore’s Gaming Information category currently ranks TSR in the top 5 independent video game websites;
The site ranks #7 on Quantcast’s Top 25 websites with the highest concentration of female audience in the United States, closely behind Oprah.com and Bravotv.com (Quantcast, Top 25 websites with the most female audience, 2017);
In 2018 TSR generated C$7 million in revenue and C$5.25 million in Adjusted EBITDA[2]and approximately C$4.5 million in net income (CohnReznick LLP unaudited “Quality of Earnings” report prepared for Enthusiast); and
Approximately 60% of revenue is derived from advertising with 40% received from monthly recurring subscribers.
“We see three key growth opportunities associated with this acquisition,” Kestenbaum continued. “Initially we intend to drive significant organic growth in advertising revenue via direct sales, an area of strategic importance to Enthusiast in recent months. Further, we now have an opportunity to monetize with advertisers seeking a large female video game audience. Finally, TSR’s subscription model has the potential to add considerable revenue across our entire portfolio.”
TRANSACTION TERMS
As consideration for the acquired assets, Enthusiast will pay, at closing, an initial amount of US$4 million in cash and US$2 million in common shares in the capital of the Company valued at C$1.00 per share;
The Company will pay a deferred payment (the “Deferred Payment”) of US$14 million on or before the first anniversary of closing;
Enthusiast will enter into a transition services agreement, pursuant to which the Vendors will manage, operate and administer the acquired assets and in particular the relationships with the TSR community for a period of up to one year;
Until the Deferred Payment is made, the Company has agreed on a profit-sharing split of 70% in favour of the Vendors, which decreases proportionally if the Company elects to prepay a portion of the Deferred Payment; and
Pursuant to the Transaction, the Company will acquire all of the assets related to TSR, including, but not limited to, customer and supplier lists, trade names, business goodwill, intellectual property, software, the domain name, website content, social media accounts and the Company will not assume any liabilities or obligations of the Vendors outside of those normally assumed in relation to employment and certain other contractual obligations.
The acquisition of TSR is the largest acquisition to date for Enthusiast and follows the successful completion of seven strategic acquisitions in 2018. The Company anticipates that it will need to secure financing in order to meet the Deferred Payment.The Company expects to continue to grow through a combination of organic growth and acquisition utilizing its balance sheet as well as being opportunistic with respect to additional equity and/or debt financing to execute on its defined growth strategy.
About Enthusiast
Founded in 2014, Enthusiast is the fastest-growing online community of video gamers. Through the Company’s unique acquisition strategy, it has a platform of over 80 owned and affiliated websites and currently reaches over 75 million monthly visitors with its unique and curated content. Enthusiast also owns and operates Canada’s largest gaming expo, Enthusiast Gaming Live Expo, EGLX, (www.eglx.ca). Over 30,000 people attended EGLX in October 2018. For more information on the Company, visit www.enthusiastgaming.com.
[1]See Comscore Media Metrix Multi-Platform and Quantcast report referenced below.
[2]Adjusted EBITDA as used by the Company means earnings before interest and financing costs (net of interest income), income taxes, depreciation and amortization, stock-based compensation, restructuring and other non-recurring costs, and non-controlling interests. Adjusted EBITDA is a non-IFRS measure. Enthusiast believes this non-IFRS financial measure provides useful information to both management and investors in measuring financial performance, the ability to fund future working capital needs, to service outstanding debt, and to fund future capital expenditures. This measure does not have a standard meaning prescribed by IFRS and therefore may not be comparable to similarly titled measurers presented by other publicly traded companies and should not be construed as an alternative to other financial measures determined in accordance with IFRS.
UPDATE #2: You can catch the YouTube Replay below!
UPDATE: The livestream has ended! You can catch the Twitch Replay down below.
The Sims Team is doing their 4th Maxis Monthly Livestream (and the first one for 2019) today – January 8th, 2019 at 8PM CET / 7PM BT / 11AM PST.
During this livestream The Sims Team will be talking all about Maxis games including The Sims FreePlay, The Sims Mobile and of course – The Sims 4. SimGuruKate did try to manage expectations for this livestream by saying that they won’t be announcing a new pack for The Sims 4. She also said that they’ll be showcasing something “nifty” during thes tream.
We know that it’s hard to catch up with all of the time zones and find out exactly when the livestream begins which is why we’ve included the countdown above the livestream window.
We’ll be writing up all the important information that may be shared during the livestream and also update this post with the replay once it becomes available so make sure you stay tuned to our website!
SimGuruGrant, the lead producer working on The Sims 4 has answered plenty of questions on Twitter over the last few days which revolve mostly around the game’s possibilities and which features could potentially be implemented in the game.
Note that the answers he provided are somewhat vague considering that none of the SimGurus are able to reveal or tease upcoming content before the official announcement. Still, there’s some valuable information about what the game can and can’t do that you might find interesting.
We’ve listed all of his answers down below. As soon as new tweets surface we’ll make sure to update this post and if there’s a bigger batch of answers we’ll include them in a different post.
Baby Ariel has a MASSIVE following. Like, millions upon millions of people. The reality is that we’re always trying to seek new folks and let others know how cool The Sims is. Baby Ariel (and her family, who I all met!) were super fantastic partners. She helps us reach new fans. https://t.co/m4sDlBQdhr
Something we discuss constantly is how to address and improve representation for a lot of cultures. This was a big factor behind our August update and something that will continue to drive us. We look to brands like Fenty Beauty with great respect. https://t.co/PwsoPYP14c
We joke about this A LOT. I don’t think it was intentional but it tends to work. When we pick titles, it has to work in 18 languages worldwide. So, it’s always SUCH A THING. I wanted to call Dine Out “Get to Dinner.” https://t.co/v7hlkH94nP
It’s possible. The challenge is finding a fit/theme for it. The reason being it’d be *very* costly, so it needs to *really* matter. https://t.co/pAlCbhmQlD
We’ve talked about it. But, we have a lot of kitchen appliances and a blender would make…more drinks? More soups? Would it really add too much value? https://t.co/LYnwBH8HZM
It’s a tough sell to promote that we made more garbage options :/
One of our challenges is that we know folks want us to imitate life, but we also have to carefully choose compelling, fun stories that are broadly appealing. It’s a difficult balancing act. https://t.co/ylI5css3LM
This is a grand over-statement, but for every pack we have capacity for every discipline (animation, modeling, concept, audio, engineering, etc.). This dictates how much we make, and where, etc. https://t.co/PFZzy7exV8
We don’t pixelize it to add any commentary. We pixelize it because we are a T for Teen game and it is required that we cover all “intimate” body parts when Sims do things. I’m sorry you are upset by it. I promise we are 100% pro mom in this case. https://t.co/PYEs0rwq5u
We animate every single interaction you see in our game. Every expansion features hundreds of staff days worth of animation. Cats & Dogs featured *thousands*. It has nothing to do with the engine. https://t.co/r6PAkQRoRf
Not in the TS3 Create a World sense, but we have *some* ideas. It’s a significant undertaking and we’d have to weigh it against other options. https://t.co/hcYAzWnHr4
We think about this, but there are a few things. For one, homelessness is a serious problem (especially in the Bay Area where I live) and we don’t want to make light of that. Poverty, family life, substance abuse, financial hardship – these are not light topics. https://t.co/IzRv07GirO
Some of the clothing cannot really be fixed as the game wasn’t originally designed to support this. It wasn’t something we had considered originally, and while I’m glad we made this first step, we can definitely continue to grow and improve here with other titles. https://t.co/TMMs4nrdXw
The challenge here is that this process is *very* personal and very specific to each person. We do *not* want to make any commentary or act in a way that is offensive to the trans community, which is already persecuted far too much. https://t.co/IBJs5EWlZe
We actually had to redo almost every asset in the game for the update a few years ago. Some work better than others. Generally speaking when you make assets that work in so many combinations some things just don’t *quite* work 100 up and down the spectrum. We’re trying. https://t.co/0ilBLXaW4B
It is a challenge in ways because we have already sold apartments with City Living. They are a big investment, so if we do it again instead of something new it is a difficult sales pitch. It’s like us saying “Buy this thing you already have, but again!” if that makes sense? https://t.co/8vXJP87fut
We have talked about it. It is somewhat controversial and not something we should do lightly. At this time I do not think we would do it. https://t.co/kI8LHbPptE
Because for public restrooms we just do the little rabbit hole stalls. You would lose a much cooler feature for us to animate a bathroom stall or urinal, so I’d rather we focus on cooler stuff at the risk of having fewer toilet types 🙂 https://t.co/gX9uT05xE4
The Get Famous Gold Toilet is what we call a “mimic” in that it is purely art and does not require new code or animations. Comparing it to a stall or urinal is not an accurate comparison. https://t.co/9Y2uxQEY7x
The talking toilet anger is very amusing. Again, it’s just a normal toilet, but with a hint of scripting and some visual FX. If we didn’t do it – and we thought it was funny – we wouldn’t have been able to do anything else instead. https://t.co/ipwjJcnEjL
A big part of the challenge of pack design is combining some normal with some “fun” and extravagant. You’re choosing *one* object from *one* of almost 25 pieces of DLC (and dozens of updates). Don’t worry we’re always chasing both! We hear you! https://t.co/D0Y0KTl29e
So, a comment I see often is “a mod does this, Maxis is <insert insult>.” The reality though is that mods don’t have to work across all hardware specs, console and PC, work with all the DLC UI, plus, you know, we try to polish them as much as possible and catch bugs.
The mod community is *incredible*. And I love how they do some things we literally cannot (i.e. certain subject matter), or they can experiment with things that take us longer to polish (i.e. snow). But, for example, when we made Seasons, we had to update 40 neighborhoods.
When we make certain hairs or clothing assets they have to work on a *wide* variety of specifications and they have to mix and match as much as possible with thousands of asset combinations and body sizes.
It depends and sometimes changes pretty far along. I’d say *generally* we know a year out. Most pack decisions are made by senior leadership (production/design/marketing) + research + community input. https://t.co/Q2TbFdWdxT
SP/GP/EP all have completely different budgets and “value offerings” (i.e. how much stuff) we try to provide. We start with pack type and design for that specifically. A lot of EP ideas could never be GPs, and vice versa. https://t.co/NYfImwV3Ss
A lot of you love to zing me for this. We wanted to experiment with adding more content for a previously released pack. And, I think it was a very worthy experiment. We are always going to try things out AND both Cats & Dogs and My First Pet Stuff had a lot of content. https://t.co/JR3rb5DCsE
You can probably blame me for no dog houses, and I stand by the decision. Here is my reasoning:
1. They aren’t really realistic or current.
2. It isn’t the story we’re telling. We designed companions, not outside house dogs.
3. We were able to do so much more instead. https://t.co/8BpZWC07sr
I think we’re torn between making it an active career or a work from home or a normal career and I’m not sure we’ve found the right pack for it yet. https://t.co/OiKkOT6rKe
So, casinos present a few problems.
1.) It is very passive gameplay, not super interesting.
2.) It can create rating issues (we are T for Teen).
3.) Casinos are less cool with younger generations. https://t.co/ygcCfAgTTt
Open worlds for TS4 are one of the few things we simply cannot do. It is an engine, architectural level change that cannot occur at this point. https://t.co/6qMMAvTdeO
As policy we always try to unlock as much as possible. But, many of these objects are not made in a way to work outside of how we place them. It’s something we talk about a lot. https://t.co/fw7nOvxvs1
So, don’t assume that trying to do something for one group excludes another. We are trying to do a few things:
Appeal globally to men, women, new players, existing players, builders, storytellers, modders, video makers, legacy players, and more. https://t.co/41pNMm0y12
We’re basically working through a gigantic list of things folks want in the best way we can. And, we sometimes succeed, and sometimes don’t. https://t.co/uuOq198SDi
I didn’t say impossible. It’s a matter of priority. If we make a urinal, design the behaviors for public restrooms, etc. you will lose other features that I would argue are MUCH more interesting. https://t.co/QZ5MGI5pwE
The Sims 4 continues to break all records even considering the fact that the game is more than 4 years old now.
SuperData, a Nielsen branch company who makes detailed research about video game sales and success has posted a Top Grossing Video Games by Category list. Down below you can see the best selling games for PC, Console and Mobile during November 2018.
The Sims 4 has took the 7th spot on the PC list, with the 6th spot taken by a popular Battle Royale game PUBG and 8th spot taken by World of Tanks.
This is the latest report for the best selling video games considering that it takes a lot of research and effort to take count the sales for hundreds of video games that are out there on multiple platforms.
We should be expecting a sales report for December 2018 in the upcoming weeks.
A new year means a new wave of The Sims 4 content – and according to SimGurus 2019 will be super exciting!
A few gurus have expressed excitement and joy over the content that they’re working on and plan to release this year. We know that the tweets they’ve shared are vague and do not reveal anything specific about 2019 content but it’s still exciting to see that they’re still working on the game in full force! After all, we still have at least 3 more years of new content ahead…
Future 2019 looks super fun for The Sims 4! I wish we had a time machine!!!! [I’d play a great Doc (albeit far less intelligent) to your cool Marty]
Happy New Year SimFam! I hope you had a wonderful, fun, and safe New Year’s Eve (I didn’t make it to midnight 😴)! 2018 was quite the year for The Sims and I can’t wait for all that we will be bringing you in 2019. It’s going to be a GREAT year!
There’s so much great stuff coming to The Sims in 2019, it really is going to be a great year. But remember it’s only the 2nd day of the year so we have a long way to go. Slow and steady wins the race. Be patient. Good things come to those who wait. I promise it will be worth it.
Happy 2019! I’m back in the office and ready to burn* this place** down***

Patch Notes
Update: 12/20/18 – PC 1.48.94.1020 / Mac 1.48.94.1220
Hey Simmers,
A quick note for a couple of hot issues.
You should now be able to once again, use speed controls when in cinematic camera (aka tab camera).
You should now be able to once again have your Sim travel without causing them to become corrupted because they did not get to know Lin-Z.
You should now be able to once again dance the Samba, assuming you previously knew the Samba.
Are you sick and tired of Babs L’Amour, June Kaye, Andre DeSilva and more popping up in The Sims 4 every time you decide to start a New Game? Well, you’ll be encountering those Sims much less now…
With the latest update The Sims Team has surprised us with new Premade Sims that will show up from time to time when deciding to start a New Game. What’s interesting about these Premade Sims is that they’re rocking new outfits from some of the base game updates that we’ve gotten over the years.
Sims such as Babs, June, Andre and others will still appear from time to time but not as much now that there’s a bigger variety of Premade Sims.
SimGuruMorgan confirmed that there are 8 new Sims in total that have been added when starting a New Game.

Multiple Simmers are reporting that they’ve encountered a strange error in The Sims 4 since the latest update which prevents them from loading up lots and / or travelling to different lots. The message shown below will pop out after loading a certain lot kicking the player out to the World Menu and not allowing the player to load any type of lot:
What’s the cause of this issue? As strange as it might be, the new Lin-Z Smart Speaker and the relationship you form with it is the root of the issue above. As reported by Crinrict, the issue starts showing up when your Sim visits a lot that had Lin-Z on and after you decide to move the Lin-Z Speaker to your Sim’s inventory or delete it altogether.
Unlike with the Talking Toilet Object from The Sims 4 City Living Expansion Pack with which you can form a relationship and get rid of it by deleting the object, you cannot get rid of the relationship with Lin-Z Smart Speaker even after deleting it which will cause big issues.
If you’ve already encountered the issue above then there isn’t a perfect solution. You’ll have to go back to the Main Menu and revert your Save Game to the point where you didn’t purchase the Lin-Z Smart Speaker. If you didn’t encounter the issue it’s highly recommended that you don’t purchase the Smart Speaker until The Sims Team releases a fix.
SimGuruSalo has shared some new Concept Art pieces from The Sims 4!
