The Sims 4 Backyard Stuff: Decorating Your Backyard

Hello everyone!

I will be giving you tips on decorating your backyard with the new pack ‘Backyard Stuff’ in today’s article!

Starting With Your Building Shape:

You always want to start with your house shape regardless if you finish the exterior or not. Making the backyard area is important so you know your space limits. Also it’s great to have a porch area for your sims to relax under!

Lay Your Terrain Paint Down:

Terrain paint gives your backyard a realistic look. Figuring out where everything will go before placing furniture will help keep everything looking clean and organized.

Placing plants:

Placing plants gives your backyard a natural and fun look! Placing a certain amount of plants can show what type of sim lives there, example if a nature loving sim lives there they’ll put a lot of plants, and on the other hand a non loving of nature sim will not put a lot of plants in their backyard. In this case we definitely have a nature loving sim that lives in this house!

Putting Down Furniture:

Furniture definitely brings the backyard to life! It brings the party right to your sims! This backyard is great for a movie night or a relaxing day out in the sun, smelling all the flowers that is around your sims! Try and use the new objects that come with the new stuff pack, the water slides! Your sims will get goofy, and have so much fun with these new objects!

The Sims 4: Unisex Clothing to be Improved

0

Reddit user dahlia_gatz has expressed her concerns about one of the huge issues that The Sims 4’s Unisex Patch has brought, and that’s warped and distorted clothing that don’t look very nice on a Sim with a certain gender.

Down below you can see one of many examples where Unisex clothing fail to deliver.

(female shorts on female sim and on the left male shorts on a female sim)

SimGuruDaniel has confirmed that The Sims Team is currently in the works to fix unisex clothing, and that we should expect to see some progress over future patches.

Just to chime in on this — we are aware that some assets translate worse than others between body types, and are in the process of fixing them up. Look for them to improve over future patches!

The Sims 4 Multiplayer: Concept Video

3

Bonfire Labs was approached in November of 2012 by EA to create this concept video of The Sims 4, showing off some of its early Multiplayer Features that were worked on from 2008 to 2012.

In case you didn’t know, The Sims 4 was originally designed to be a multiplayer game but EA eventually got rid of all multiplayer features after 2012. You can see some of the examples in these early UI concepts and  early brand art direction.

In November of 2012 EA approached Bonfire Labs to work on a long-form video to introduce Sims 4.

To bring the Sims characters out of their electronic world, we created a piece of animation showing them reacting to a live human hand. In addition, we created 3D interstitials, built stunning motion graphics, and were tasked to handle the all-important 3D Sims logo animation.

SimGuruDrake explains: Why there won’t be a Gamescom Announcement this year

3

After announcing that there won’t be a Sims 4 announcement at Gamescom this year, SimGuruDrake wanted to clarify more about why is that the case. She explained that they don’t want to repeat the same scenario like last year where they announced The Sims 4 Get Together in August and kept most of the info a secret for a few months.

We aren’t ashamed to announce anything, I’ve actually been very excited about sharing the stuff we have shown so far and have not hidden my enthusiasm for them from any of you. We would rather do a full reveal of a product when we can continue talking about it from that moment on wards rather than say something and then disappear. An example of this is last year with EP2, there were a lot of conversations in the forums about lack of updates between Gamescom tease reveal and when we could do the full on reveal. Also, and most of this stems from the quarterly teaser reactions, but I’m having trouble understanding the want for a tease with pictures when we already have complaints about the quarterly tease not giving enough information because it is a tease.

What I’ve said above in no way means that I don’t appreciate that everyone wants to know what is coming down the pipeline as far as content, I 100% understand the passion and enthusiasm you have for the game and that it’s hard for the community to understand game development and how it works when you aren’t actually working in the studio –I know Graham has definitely tried to at least explain the process from the SP side of things. You’ve already seen this year the hard work that our engagement team has been doing with their free updates and what the SP and GP teams have been doing with their content–know that the EP team is hard at work as well.

OPINION: EA needs to step up their The Sims 4 Expansion Pack game

4

NOTE: This post is written by a very hopeful simmer that things will get better one day in terms of Expansion Pack releases. This is not a news post so if you are looking for real sims news, check out this category.

Almost a year since the last Expansion Pack announcement…

We’re already stepping into the 8th month of 2016 and still no announcement, teaser or even a word about The Sims 4’s 3rd Expansion Pack beside the confirmation that’s being worked on since last year. Today’s reveal that The Sims Team won’t be making an announcement next month during Gamescom pretty much crashed my hopes that we’ll get any info reveal for Expansion Pack 3 this summer season. Sure, they didn’t include anything Expansion Pack-related in their Summer quarterly teaser, but the quarterly teasers are aimed to show what will be released in that certain season, not what announcement should we expect.

By the looks of it, everything that they included in the latest teaser has already been released: Backyard Stuff Pack and a Nanny Update, leaving August empty from not only new content releases, but now also new announcements.

backyard snippet

This isn’t the only worst thing that happened this year though: after The Sims 4 Romantic Garden Stuff Pack release in February 2016, we experienced a 2-month news drought where The Sims Team didn’t announce any payable content for the game. Sure, their first teaser released in late April, but still, many questions were left unanswered, and we still had to wait till June to get The Sims 4 Dine Out, meaning that 4 months passed without a Pack release.

The Sims 3 Expansions and their release schedule

The Sims 4 will be celebrating its second anniversary on September 2nd, and it only has 2 Expansion Packs to celebrate. Meanwhile, in just 2 years of its release, The Sims 3 managed to release 4 Expansion Packs:

Capture

The EP release pattern for the first half of The Sims 3 Series was pretty much obvious: release one Expansion Pack in Spring/Summer and the other one in Fall/Winter. The Expansion Pack production improved once they expanded their Expansion Pack team to EA Salt Lake, and since The Sims 3 Showtime, the team managed to release 3 Expansion Packs per year.

Meanwhile, the case is pretty unclear with The Sims 4. We had The Sims 4 Get to Work released in April 2015 and The Sims 4 Get Together released in December 2015, but since 2016 started, everything started going downhill…

Why 5 other packs aren’t as equal as 1 Expansion Pack

We had 4 Stuff Pack releases and 1 Game Pack release in 2016 so far:

packreleases

The Packs we’ve got so far are great and totally worth their price, but to be honest, they don’t have a long-lasting appeal like Expansion Packs.

With Stuff Packs, you get some new items and gameplay objects that are worth only for upgrading your current The Sims 4 experience, not creating a new one. With Game Packs, you get new features and plenty of new objects that are focused on one theme in particular. For example, with Dine Out that focuses on restaurants, you get new to go to restaurants as a customer or run your own restaurant with plenty of customization options and objects. Still, even Game Packs start to wear off real soon if you’re not into that one particular theme that they bring.

SIMS4GP3pc_DINE_OUT_OWN_thmb_Web

What The Sims 4 really needs is a better, more frequent release schedule of Expansion Packs. Even if it means moving some people away from Stuff Pack and Game Pack production teams into the Expansion Pack Team, I’m pretty sure we’d all appreciate that sacrifice. The 5 packs we got in 2016 so far still aren’t enough as, lets say, Get Together, and if I had to choose between buying these 5 Packs or buying Get Together, I’ll go with Get Together without a doubt.

Why The Sims 4 needs Expansion Packs

Even though what we have in The Sims 4 so far is great, you can’t deny that Pets, Seasons, University and many other Expansion Pack themes are definitely a must for this game. Not only because it’s basically been a tradition for the last decade, but also because more diverse content will allow better stories and gameplay.

I have to admit that The Sims 4 is starting to feel really small in terms of Worlds. Get Together is the only Pack that brought a proper, full-sized world, but we still deserve more worlds and a bigger variety rather than just lush green areas and a populated desert.

What do other Simmers think

If you’ve ever visited the official Facebook page for The Sims, you’ll know that a majority of people who liked the page are basically begging The Sims Team in the comment section of almost each post to throw their $40 at them, which is the cost of an Expansion Pack.

Almost the same thing is happening in the Twitter simming community and The Sims Forum. Simmers are really eager to spend their $40 on an Expansion Pack, but rather they get offered a $10 Stuff Pack which doesn’t have a long-lasting appear.

Here’s a scenario that’s been going on for weeks: The Sims Team responds to a small group of comments that are related to the Stuff Pack they’re posting about, while the majority of other comments related to Expansion Packs are bumped all the way down because the team didn’t respond to those comments.

Conclusion

The Sims Team really needs some serious re-organization: they should either move some of the producers from the Stuff Pack and Game Pack teams into the Expansion Pack team or just simply hire more people to make Expansion Packs, just like The Sims 3 did once they started releasing 3 Expansion Packs a year.

I don’t know how The Sims Team entirely functions because I don’t work there, but anyone can understand that it’s only logical to increase the amount of people working on Expansion Packs if there’s a high demand for them.

The Sims 4: Objects that didn’t make the cut

The Sims Forum member husseinandali found, among some other concept art that we covered before, thumbnails of objects that didn’t make the cut to The Sims 4.

Is that a small telescope I see? 😉

The Sims 4: No Announcements at this year’s Gamescom

2

Almost every year, The Sims Team prepares for Gamescom, an annual event that’s held in Germany to celebrate video games. Before, The Sims Team used to announce or release new info during EA’s Press Conference, such as The Sims 4 reveal, The Sims 3 Pets, Supernatural & Seasons info reveal and so on.

For this year, SimGuruDrake confirmed that there won’t be a Sims 4 announcement during Gamescom that’ll be happening next month.

The Sims 4: SimGuruLyndsay Clarifies Console Rumors

Don’t trust the rumors that keep popping up on your google search for The Sims 4-related things as SimGuruLyndsay has finally set the records straight.

Lyndsay Pearson, Senior Producer for The Sims 4, confirmed that a console version for The Sims 4 won’t see the light of day anytime in the near future.

It’s still unclear if The Sims 4 will ever get made for consoles like previous Sims games, but if not, we fully support The Sims Team for focusing on the PC version on the game.
