The Sims Blog: 7 Reasons to Get Excited for The Sims 4 Dine Out

0

Via TheSims.com!

Are your Sims hungry? They won’t be for long! The Sims 4 Dine Out Game Pack* is, well, packed with stuff to do. So let’s crack open the menu and tell you what you can look forward to.

TS4_674_GP03_LIFTS_08

Experimental Food: We had a field day with a large amount of thrilling, gorgeous, innovative dishes in the game pack. There’s stuff that you’ve never seen before in a The Sims game. They’re photo worthy, which is why your Sims will take pictures and hang them on their walls. Complete the Experimental Food collection if you want to prove you’re a true foodie. Learn more about Experimental Food here.

Varied Dining Experience. The dining experience is full of new experiences for your Sims. It’s the perfect place to bring a date or celebrate a birthday. There are new activities for the kids, and the casual Sim-watching experience at the restaurant is better than almost anywhere else in the world. Your Sims will also gain powerful and interesting Moodlets. Simply put, taking the family out to eat is a blast.

Customizable Restaurants: Restaurants are customizable from start to finish. You can choose the name, the menu, how the staff dresses, how customers dress, and what the restaurant looks like. We left no stone unturned on the customization front so you can dig in to the starchy bits and customize to your (artichoke) hearts’ content. Read more about restaurant customization here.

Ownable Restaurants: Your Sims can throw off their uniform and replace it with a toque (look it up!) to start their own restaurant. If you’ve played The Sims 4 Get to Work*, you have an idea of how it works. Your Sims can hire, train, and inspire staff, compensate customers for bad service, customize the menu, and more to enjoy a rich, full flavored entrepreneur experience. We cannot wait to read about your restauranteur stories.

New Objects. Keep outdoor diners cozy beneath the new Warming Lamp, or complete your seafood restaurant with the beautiful new aquariums. Customize your own signs for your restaurant and plop down booths for snug, intimidate dining. Don’t get us started on the decorative objects! You’ll have so much décor to sink your teeth into.

Pre-Made Restaurants. If you aren’t a builder, or want to see some examples before creating your own, try one of the six pre-made Restaurants located in your Library. Seafood, high-end Italian, diners, and date-night restaurants are all here.

Bring the Food Home. If your Sims love to cook, and they love the new food they tried at the restaurant, they can try their hand at cooking it themselves. If you purchase a Chef Station for your home, you can set your Sims to work. Wow home dinner guests with new experimental foods like the Glazed Heirloom Bamboo Roll and Sizzled Brisket over Sour Clover Salad!

We cannot wait to share more with you about The Sims 4 Dine Out. It releases on June 7 and you’re going to love it. Tuck your napkin into your collar, because it’s almost time to eat!

Simmer Q&A: Five Minutes with Julian / Iron Seagull

0

Welcome to another Simmer Q&A, where we take time to introduce you to a Simmer and his/her work that you may have been unaware of. Today, we’re interviewing Julian / Iron Seagull, a dedicated Simmer and a devoted YouTuber. Let’s begin!

1) I know that you’ve been making YouTube Videos for quite some time. How did it all begin?

My channel has technically been around since 2009, but for years it was just a place for me to upload random videos whenever I felt like it. June 16, 2013 is what I consider to be the official start of my channel when I uploaded my first Sims let’s play called Dragon Valley Rivals. After watching other YouTubers like Quxxn and Andrew Arcade, I felt inspired and wanted to bring my own ideas to the YouTube side of the simming community. A big idea I had was to create a continuous storytelling universe for my sims that works just like what you see Marvel and DC doing with their movies and TV shows. That combined with the lovely feedback I’ve gotten from the community even back during those days when I didn’t upload on a consistent basis is what’s motivated me to continue. I’m getting very close to 6000 supporters, which is something I never thought I’d achieve!

2) I’m a huge fan of your info/thoughts videos! How much time goes into creating one info/thought video?

I’m glad you like them! The process of Info/Thoughts videos are quite different from most of my content since I don’t record gameplay footage for them (though I occasionally throw in some of my own screenshots for the opinion sections). Instead, there’s more researching and screenshotting tweets from the SimGurus ha ha. These videos normally take about 1-2 hours total. Here’s an example of one from when the “Sims 4 Pets” survey was going around:

3) How much time a week do you dedicate to your YouTube channel?

Not sure of an exact number, roughly 14 hours I think. Some weeks I do more Info/Thoughts, some have more let’s plays, some are more focused on Lot Showcases or other content. It varies quite a bit. If you’d like to see my let’s play universe in chronological order, here’s the playlist! A lot of my spare time is spent on other games like Sonic The Hedgehog and hanging out with my girlfriend Ashleigh, who I fatefully met through this community! She even joins in on recording with me from time to time. Recently both of us have made a habit of getting more active through Wii Fit U, it’s surprisingly a lot of fun! I still need to work on getting the Tree yoga pose just right….

4) You’ve been simming for quite some time, right?

Yeah, almost since the beginning! I remember The Sims Hot Date was right around the corner when one of my childhood friends introduced me to the series. At first the game felt mostly like an RPG to me. Level up skills in different areas, move up in your career, make tons of money, and don’t die in the process. Then when one of my sims started riding a mechanical bull at a party was when I had a moment of clarity, that the game was also about the fun parts of life and not just level grinding. I got more hooked on The Sims with each game since.
Unleashed was by far my favourite pack for Sims 1, not just because of pets but also that the neighbourhoods became much bigger. Seasons was my favourite for Sims 2 because the weather was such a cool (no pun intended) breakthrough for the series. Seasons became my favourite again with Sims 3 because of the festivals and even better weather effects. No other Sims 3 pack comes close for me. With Sims 4, my favourites are both Outdoor Retreat and Get Together. I love doing outdoorsy stuff with my sims, and while I think Get Together was lacking in certain areas, it still affects our sims’ everyday lives pretty nicely. Plus, Windenburg in my opinion is by far the best world in Sims 4 so far.

5) What do you love in The Sims 4 and what do you want to see improved, upgraded or added?

There’s definitely quite a few things I love about The Sims 4. The art style is just what I wanted. The Gallery is a huge improvement over the Exchange. Having all worlds in every save has been instrumental to telling the continuos universe I mentioned earlier. CAS runs great. Game Packs are probably one of the best things to ever happen to the series. The soundtrack is really nice and the skills for the most part are really fun.

On the other hand, there’s still so much that I want to see added to the game. So much in fact, that I’ve started a series on my channel called My Sims 4 Wishlist. I hope to do at least 2 of these every month. There’s a very long text document on my computer full of ideas for possible wishlist videos that only gets longer every week, it’s pretty crazy! I really want to see cars return. I think even without as open a world as before, they work very well with storytelling. I think a Create A World tool needs to be made at some point. We got some amazing custom worlds in The Sims 3 and I’m constantly running out of space to place new lots in The Sims 4. A swimming skill could be really interesting especially if we got beach lots back, which is one of the next wishlist videos I have planned. Also, Ashleigh just yelled “TODDLERS!!!” Right, how could I possibly forget them? 😛

6) Dine Out is coming in less than two weeks! What are you looking forward the most in this Game Pack?

I’m so excited for Dine Out! There was a wishlist video I put out this past New Years Eve about what I wanted to see for this game in 2016, and restaurants were at the top along with toddlers and cars. I long speculated that restaurants would be the next Game Pack, and it made me so happy when it was official. I’m most excited to just have proper restaurants for my sims to dine out at instead of relying on bars and cafes ha ha! It’s great to see that it’s possible to make a big variety of restaurants, I’m excited to see what will be shared on the Gallery! Maybe a rustic restaurant hosted by bears, or a sit-down pizza parlour?

The Sims Blog: 11 Ways to Customize Your Restaurant in The Sims 4 Dine Out

1

Via TheSims.com!

Your Sims can do more than just visit restaurants in The Sims 4 Dine Out Game Pack*. If they’re feeling a little more ambitious, potential restaurateurs and foodies can customize their own restaurant.

There are so many ways to tweak, add spice, re-arrange, and build your restaurant that… well, let’s stop talking and start explaining! We put together a list of ways you can customize a restaurant, and even a video showing what it’s like to run your own. With these tips in-hand, you’ll be able to improve overall star rating, leading to higher profit and success!

Give it a Name. What’s in a name? You tell us. No, seriously. Every restaurant needs a name and we’ve given you a quick and easy way to provide one for your latest food service establishment.

Pick the Aesthetic. If you’ve ever been to a restaurant review site, you know the setting and ambiance is a priority for restaurant goers. Get creative with your restaurant by making it a subterranean dungeon dining experience, or an outdoor garden, complete with a hedge maze. Put dining a few stories up to provide a view, or simply recreate your favorite hometown diner.

TS4_648_GP03_SCREENS_02_003

Stir in the Basics. The requirements for a Restaurant Venue are quite simple, which provides you with a lot of flexibility in making a unique one. You’ll need a place to use the restroom and clean up, the Host Station, Waiter Station, and Chef Station, and several Dining Spots. The Dining Spot isn’t just a table, but a combination of tables and chairs. Or, stools and tables. After all, people need to sit when eating. Sims aren’t goats!

Mix in Some Spicy Décor. If you have outdoor seating, but sure to place the all new Heat Lamp to keep your diners toasty. Add in the new booth object when you want variety from the typical dining chairs and stools. Give your kitchen that authentic feel with the food racks, and be sure to prominently display the Nectar Fridge so you look appropriate high end. Players who are themselves avid diners can place their Experimental food photographs on the walls. And, finally, the gorgeous, huge new aquariums will both look amazing and keep the day’s catch fresh for your new seafood restaurant. The decorative options in The Sims 4 Dine Out are truly the chef’s choice.

TS4_674_GP03_LIFTS_05

Design the Signage. One of our favorite new object suites in The Sims 4 Dine Out is our customizable sign set. Choose from a few blank signs which can be placed flat against the building, stick out, or place on the ground. Then, choose from a variety of symbols, letters, and colors, to create a sign that is unique to your restaurant. This is such a fun, simple creative tool to use with a variety of restaurants!

Define the Attire. Sims can wear practically anything, and we recognize it’s important for your stories that they look appropriate. Using a simple menu, you can define how customers dress when they arrive to dine at your restaurant. Is it a formal venue? Boom, choose formal. Do you want people to dress a little sillier? Maybe party is the way to go. Define the look from start to finish!

SIMS4GP3pc_DINE_OUT_OWN_thmb_Web

Clothe the Staff. Every restaurant has Chefs, Waiters, and Hosts, and they all need clothing! How much, and what, is completely up to you. You can quickly choose from a series of preset clothing, or you can enter Create a Sim for every role, and every gender for that role. Do you want your waiters wearing Bear Suits from The Sims 4 Outdoor Retreat Game Pack*, or perhaps the Knight costume from The Sims 4 Get Together*? Go for it. Perhaps you want to go classy with board shorts and bikinis for your host employees? Also possible. The clothing is so crucial for creating a thematic, hilarious, or real-world mimic and the choice is up to you.

Choose the Menu. Choosing the food should be an easy and tantalizingly delicious choice. And it is! Using a simple interface, you’re able to quickly select and preview menus like Diner, Brunch, Experimental, or Italian. But if you don’t like the pre-set choices, you can always…

Customize a Menu. Like so many things in The Sims 4, you have the choice to customize something to make it YOUR story! You can load preset menus to tweak them slightly, or you can pick and choose each and every dish the restaurant serves. This includes the Appetizer, Main course, Dessert, and Drink options! The images are beautiful and vibrant and everything looks tasty. The hardest choice will be figuring out what NOT to serve at the restaurant!

TS4_648_GP03_SCREENS_01_004

Learn from My Library. If you aren’t sure where to begin with your restaurant, you can head over to My Library for six gorgeous pre-made restaurants that are included with The Sims 4 Dine Out. Chez Llama will show you just how beautiful a restaurant can be, while Hogan’s Burger Bar pays homage to The Sims 3 and is the neighborhood’s burger hangout. Naturally, The Diving Pelican is a seaborne seafood restaurant that will show you how the tail wags the fish. If you need inspiration, we’ll get you started!

Share to the Gallery. One of our favorite features of The Sims 4 is the Gallery, as it is the perfect way for our best creators to easily share their ideas. Plus, fans who are less inclined towards building can pick and choose from the best of the community. Be sure to share your restaurants to the Gallery as soon as you put the finishing touches on the menu! Also, it’s good to know that your staff outfits, customer dress code, and customized menu are all preserved with the physical restaurant as well!

The Sims 4 Dine Out Game Pack will be released on June 7. We can’t wait to see what you create!

The Sims 4 Go to School Mod Pack: New Version Announcement!

GoToSchoolLogo

(Thanks to TheSimplyNando for the above logo!)

The Sims 4 Go to School Mod Pack allows players with both The Sims 4 and The Sims 4 Get to Work to follow their Child and Teen Sims to school, similar to the three careers added in Get to Work. While the current version provides a simple event with occasional random field trips, the new version aims to provide a whole new gameplay experience and change the way you play with Child and Teen Sims, as well as a brand new career for older Sims!

GoToSchoolNew

  • Sims will now attend an actual class: a Teacher NPC will spawn at a podium and teach the lesson of the day, while other Sims sit and listen. The player’s main goal is to attend the class and ask questions, which can be done by clicking the teacher and selecting an interaction. When the school day starts, NPC Sims will attend class for a random amount of time (1, 2, 3 or 4 Sim hours) before going off to perform activities.
  • The school lot also has other new NPCs: the Principal, the Counsellor, the Caterer and the Janitor. The former two can be assigned to a specific part of the lot using a special rug.
  • There will be a brand new career for older Sims, Education, which includes all the roles available on the school lot. NPCs on the school lot are drawn from this career, so if you switch households, the Sim you have in the career may be the one that actually appears!
  • Classes and activities aren’t the same everyday: there are five subjects (Social Development, Problem Solving, Creative Arts, Physical Education and Science and Technology). In Elementary School, these take place on Monday-Friday respectively. Costume Day still takes place on Wednesday along with the Creative Arts class. The schedule for High School hasn’t been decided yet.
  • You can pick a liked and hated subject for your Sim, by having them perform a social interaction. Sims will get a positive Moodlet on the day of their liked subject and a negative Moodlet on the day of their hated one. Your Sim’s liked subject will effect the special opportunities they receive!
  • Sims have a School Spirit score! Those with high School Spirit will earn a positive Happy Moodlet while attending school, while those with low School Spirit will earn a negative Bored Moodlet. By default, they’ll be assigned a random level in the low range. School Spirit can be increased by talking to the Counsellor NPC.
  • As well as boosting spirit, the Counsellor can also help get a Sim into the Confident, Focused, Inspired and Energized emotions!
  • Sims who use an excessive amount of Mean and Mischief interactions may be assigned a punishment! While a Sim is punished, their school performance will decay drastically slower (this includes attending school inactively). The punishment will be lifted after the Sim earns Gold on a school day. Upon receiving it, they’ll lose a bit of performance and School Spirit as well. There is an upside, though: punished Sims benefit more from talking to the Counsellor, and if properly taken advantage of, it can negate the loss of spirit caused by being punished in the first place!
  • If your Sim becomes friends with the Counsellor, it unlocks the Undeclare Subjects interaction, allowing you to change their liked and disliked subject.
  • Field trips will be at a location specific to the subject of the day, and will have goals specific to that location.
  • As well as field trips, there is also a chance the class will be given a guest speaker from the Doctor, Detective or Scientist career. I am still thinking of ways to improve this feature, but currently Sims will gain special Moodlets from being around them.
  • Becoming friends with the Teacher and/or Principal will unlock special opportunities, which can earn your Sim tokens that can be redeemed for skill-boosting traits! The opportunities your Sim receives depends on their liked subject, but this can be changed using the Undeclare Subjects interaction on the Counsellor. There are also hidden aspirations that can be unlocked, which will give out a lot of tokens!
  • There is a prom event planned for Teen Sims! I am still thinking of features for it, but it’s definitely on the list to add!

And now, get your first look at the new version with this video showing off the revamped first day of school event:
