We know that times are a bit weird right now, but we’re keeping things as normal as possible over here so we have a few fixes for you all.

Thanks for your continued support, we hope that you all are staying home and staying safe out there.

FIXES & UPDATES

The Sims 4

  • Improved compatibility with newer macOS releases, refer to FAQ for more details here
  • Made some small visual and functional improvements to the Main Menu.
  • Custom paintings on nearby lots that are taken a picture of from your active lot will now properly flag your lot as custom content when uploading it to the Gallery.
    • So sneaky!
  • We addressed an issue resulting in a “Conflicting Block Cluster” error message that could occur while building, preventing you from being able to draw or move walls.
  • Non-active traited Sims will no longer get the “Not Enough Exercise” tense moodlet.
  • Stair railings will no longer appear incomplete when placed against a half-wall.
  • Whims are once again able to be completed after Travel.
    • Whims are things your Sims want to do, but you don’t have to.
  • You can now safely raise or lower the foundation of The Nookstone lot in Oasis Springs – walls, floors, and furniture will no longer disappear.
  • The Tutorial will no longer lock if your Sim is promoted before you are given the “You Need to Gain Skill to be Promoted” task.

Get Together

  • Fixed a graphic issue that could occur on Mac with some Intel graphics cards that caused plants in Windenburg to appear blocky when in Laptop Mode.
    • So if you are on a Mac, with an intel graphics card, and you are in laptop mode, and you are playing in Windenburg… we got you covered.

City Living

  • Bulldozing 888 Spire Apartment lots should no longer result in error code 123:28b6ee3b.
    • We hope it does not result in error code: 123:456789abcde
      • We are fairly certain it should not result in error code: 8675-309
        • And under no circumstance should error code 42 occur.

Cats & Dogs

  • The male veterinarian coat now has a properly visible ID badge.

Seasons

  • Sims should no longer get the “Chilled” buff when the thermostat is set to warmer.
    • Unless you have a heater that turns on and off repeatedly due to a bad switch in the system, and then when it decides to fail completely, it just ignores input for about 3 hours, and then when you wake up in the morning you have to carry a heavy blanket with you… ah hm… nm.

Get Famous

  • Actor prep tasks will no longer reset on traveling.
    • This is the second travel issue in the game… was it trying to tell us something?

Island Living

  • Beaches are available for weddings.

Discover University

  • Sims living in dorms should no longer receive high bills to live there.

Spa Day

  • The “Take bath with Soaks” and “Take Mud Bath” interactions are once again, once again available on Showertubs.
    • This time we won’t have to remove the fix because of… crosses fingers.

Jungle Adventure

  • Child sims will no longer get a flirty buff after eating Flutterberry.

Realm of Magic

  • Magical Clones will no longer become permanent Sims after traveling.
  • Sims can once again resume writing books when their familiars are active.

Tiny Living Stuff

  • Tiny Home Residential lots added to vacation worlds via The Gallery will now properly convert into rental lots.

The Sims 4: New Update Coming Soon; Changes Planned for Mac Game Files

6

SimGuruNick has announced on Twitter that we should be expecting a new update for The Sims 4 for PC and Mac soon. Although he hasn’t specified any details, potential new content or bug fixes that might come with it, he shared information that there are going to be a few changes for how Save Files function for Mac players.

Learn more about the changes coming to The Sims 4 Game Files for Mac players down below:

Hi Simmers,

With the upcoming patch, the location where some of The Sims 4 game files are stored in macOS will change to comply with Apple’s updated notarization requirements. If you haven’t manually modified any game files, you should be able to install the patch and continue playing as normal. For more information on what’s going to change, please, read the FAQ below.

What will this patch do?
Once the patch is downloaded the following actions will take place as part of the install/repair process:

  • Default.iniGraphicsCards.sgr, and GraphicsRules.sgr configuration files will be deleted and new default versions added to the Resources folder within the application bundle.
  • Any pack content (DLC) previously installed will be moved to a new The Sims 4 Packs folder next to the application bundle.

Why are files being moved around? Will this impact my Expansion Packs and/or Mods?

To be compliant with the Notarization requirements the location where certain game files and downloaded content are stored needed to be changed.

  • Expansion Packs should work as expected after this change.
  • Mod files should not be impacted by this change at all.

What if I store my The Sims 4 in an alternate location from the default (external drive, different folder, etc)?

The location of the game app bundle and executables are not affected by these changes, just where pack content is installed.

  • If you move the app bundle location, be sure to move the folder The Sims 4 Packs as well.

Will there be changes to where my game saves are stored?
No, saved games will continue to be stored in your Documents folder at ~/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/ .

What if I have updated Config files like: Default.ini, GraphicsCards.sgr, GraphicsRules.sgr?
As part of the patch process the location of these files is moving to a new Resources folder within the app bundle.

  • New default versions of these files will be installed in this new location.
  • If you have made local modifications to these files, they will be lost and will need to be reapplied in the new location.

What is notarization? Why now?

Notarization is a new requirement for macOS applications that gives users peace of mind that the software they are installing from outside of Apple’s macOS App Store has been checked and verified to be free of malicious content by Apple. Stricter notarization requirements were recently introduced.

The Sims Team releases a 6 month Roadmap for The Sims 4

82

Many simmers are wondering about what should we expect next in the world of The Sims 4! Although The Sims Team’s latest blog post doesn’t reveal any specifics regarding the themes of the upcoming content, they did clarify the Pack types that we should expect, as well as some behind the scenes information of the development. Check it out!

Hey all, SimGuruDuke here writing to you from the modified guest bedroom in my house, which now doubles as my home office. It works out, though, since I’m not expecting any guests for the time being. The changes over the last few weeks have been hard on all of us, and I want to take a moment and share some updates about The Sims™ 4 with all of you.

First off, for those wondering, our entire team transitioned to work from home the week of March 16. This has been a big shift, but we are all so excited about the future content we are building that we have been pushing through and continuing to make progress! Things have been a bit slower with all of our kids and animals demanding attention throughout the day, but as always, we are here to make sure The Sims 4 is functioning whenever you want to play. With that in mind, I thought I might give you a little preview of what you can expect from us over the next six months.

The Sims Team releases a 6 month Roadmap for The Sims 4

We are currently hard at work on the new Community Voted Stuff Pack. I know, of course we are…. I can’t tell you its name, because we have not voted on that yet, but I saw the list of options last week, and I have no idea which one you all will choose. I’m anxious to find out. That pack is really coming together and it has been great having all of your input to help shape it.

In addition to the Stuff Pack, we are also hard at work on our next Expansion Pack. I’m super excited about the theme the team has chosen—I think it will be a surprise to many of you. The team has also been hard at work on some new surprise additions we plan to bring to the game over the summer. They are not massive changes, but they are pretty cool ones that I think you will have a ton of fun with. Another group on our team is currently focused on our next Game Pack. This pack is a major first for us, and we are super eager to share it with all of you later this year.

Lastly, we have been working on some fun ways to Stay Home and Play Together. No, we are not doing multiplayer. We want to help our community of players connect with each other (and us!) in this time of social distancing. As part of that, we Gurus want a chance to share more with you. We are not ready to spill all the details, but I am thrilled about it, and you will get more info soon.

I want all of you to know that our team is still very much focused on building out new experiences for the game and ensuring we continue to grow and expand The Sims as we listen to all of you, our players. Thanks for playing, and be safe!

The Sims 4: Plans for Upcoming Content to be revealed very soon!

Simmers have been eager to find out what’s next for the world of The Sims 4, and it’s no secret that it’s been a while since we had a new content release for the game.

SimGuruFrost, Global Community Manager for The Sims has written on Twitter that The Sims Team is working on being more transparent regarding what’s to come for The Sims 4 in the coming period. He wrote:

I’ve seen some people asking about what we’re up to, and communication has been a bit sparse. So I’ve been working with various team members to have a cool blog post go out (hopefully) next week that you won’t want to miss.

This means that we should be expecting a blog post, probably next week revealing what we should expect for upcoming content for The Sims 4. We’ll keep you posted on what’s to come so stay tuned!

The Sims 4 Community Voted Stuff Pack: Round Four Results

SimGuruNinja has revealed the results from the fourth round of voting for the upcoming Community Voted Stuff Pack!

If you are not sure what the Community Stuff Pack is all about, you can find out more here.

via EA.com

Okay, Simmers, take a seat in your new rocking chair and get ready for the results of Round 4 of our Community Voted Stuff Pack for The Sims™ 4! For this round, we presented you with over one hundred objects to pick from. Together, you chose which style of rocking chair will appear in the game and narrowed the selection down to your twenty-eight favorite objects. Of these, some are normal items you can find in the Build/Buy catalog, but many will be craftable by your Sim as they level up their Knitting Skill. To do that, they’ll need a knitting basket, and because the vote for the knitting basket was so close, we’ve decided to give you two baskets.

See what the final decisions were now!

With this round completed, we’re almost finished voting on the components of this next Stuff Pack. Now that we’ve determined the theme (Arts & Crafts), art style (DIY Delight), CAS choices, and objects you can expect to see in the game, we have just two things left: the pack icon and name!

We’ll have more details about those soon, so keep an eye out for updates in the coming month or two!

The Sims 4’s 9th Expansion Pack is in the Final Stage of Production

431

The Sims 4’s upcoming Expansion Pack seems to be nearly finished!

EA Careers website has updated their website with some new job listings, and included in those listings are two new job positions looking for Voice Editors to help ship the upcoming expansion pack for The Sims 4!

The listing is looking for a Voice Editor who will be working in a 2 months term to help finalize voices and audio for the next Expansion Pack.

The Maxis Studio of Electronic Arts is seeking a Voice Editor to join the Audio team and help ship an upcoming expansion pack for The Sims 4.

The ideal candidate should have experience delivering final quality audio either from a brief or starting with placeholder sounds in software. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work within technical limitations to deliver quality audio are essential. It’s also important that the candidate understands the role of audio in video games; and can create final content to best effect the player experience.

The Sims 4’s 9th Expansion Pack is in the Final Stage of Production

This isn’t the only scenario where a Voice Editor job listing predicted that a new Expansion Pack is close to being announced. Back in July 2019 we’ve posted about the Voice Editor Job Listing and predicted that an Expansion Pack would be coming our way by the end of 2019. Just a few months after in October 2019 – Discover University was announced!

If we could predict the time when The Sims 4’s 9th Expansion Pack could be announced – it would either be sometime during summer or even late spring – at EA Play 2020.

What do you think the next Expansion Pack is all about? Let us know in the comments!

Community Voted Stuff Pack: Round Four Voting Is Now Open

Voting has now begun for the fourth round of the new Community Voted Stuff Pack! This round of voting is all about choosing your favourite Build/Buy Mode items based around the DIY Delight theme.

SimGuruSarah has revealed the results from the third round of voting for the upcoming Community Voted Stuff Pack!

If you are not sure what the Community Stuff Pack is all about, you can find out more here.

via EA.com

At this point, we’re well underway in the development process of our upcoming The Sims™ 4 Community Voted arts-and-crafts-themed Stuff Pack. As a community, you’ve picked your favorite gameplay feature (knitting!) and art style (DIY delight!) for the pack. Round three of the voting, though, starts to take us into the particular assets you’ll see with Create A Sim clothing choices.

In the time since the voting ended, we’ve parsed the data, finalized the selections, and gone through an informal internal approval process to ensure the pack’s offerings are well balanced. From the whopping ninety-two pieces of CAS concept art presented, your votes helped narrow it down to the top fifteen pieces you see below. (Some of them are even craftable in-game!)

Without further ado, these are the clothing options that will be included in this upcoming Stuff Pack:

Over the next couple of weeks, our concept artists will be creating more art for the next vote in early March, when you will be able to help us settle on the objects we move forward with. Until then, you can start planning the perfect outfits for your Sims to wear while crafting!

20th Anniversary Special: Let’s Celebrate Modders & CC Creators!

Hello everyone,

The 20th anniversary of the sims has been a little bit controversial. People expressed their disappointment about the infamous hot tub on forums and on social media. Even the people who stated they did not expect anything special frowned upon that so-called gift. Whether EA / Maxis welcomes it or not, the vocal community of the sims is the best part of this franchise. Such passion, such resolve, such dedication must be rewarded. And it must be rewarded with something greater than a hot tub, as the community stated very clearly.

For this reason, I decided that maybe we should celebrate those who keep rewarding us with their creations without getting paid for it.

20th Anniversary Special: Let’s Celebrate Modders & CC Creators!

I want to thank all modders and CC creators on behalf of the community, for putting so much hard work and effort into enhancing our gameplay experience for two decades by now.

You deserve all the gratitude and praise in the world! I would love to shout out some of them like,

  • Scumbumbo (RIP), who passed away as I drafted this article, for creating so many mods not only for players but also for mod-makers,
  • Deaderpool, for MCCC and for the most helpful discord community I have ever been to,
  • KawaiiStacie, for Slice of Life and many other family-gameplay mods,
  • roBurky, for Meaningful Stories and teaching our sims how to control their emotions,
  • LittleMsSam, for numerous mods big and small that fixes many annoyances,
  • TurboDriver, for the personality and attraction systems of Wicked Whims Mod,
  • Peacemaker, SaurusSims, LuumiaSims, SynthSims, Wistful Castle, IllogicalSims, MLys, PlumbobTeaSociety, FelixandreSims, Darte77, Gorillax3, MMSims, Xmiramira, Ebonix & all other amazing CC creators for their stunning content whether it be clothing, hair or furniture,
  • Nraas, for introducing so many gameplay mods like better story progression to the Sims 3 to enhance our experience,
  • Numenor, for the sims 2 mods like color enabler package, any game starter and many more,
  • Pescado, for creating many ‘AwesomeMod’s and founding the PMBD, which was a bold move in favor of the community back in days,
  • Eric, for creating the infamous InSIMenator for the sims 2 back in days when we did not have so many alternatives, and of course for the insimenator forums’ drama,
  • Warlokk, Marvine & BeosBoxBoy (RIP), for creating custom body meshes for the sims 2 when we didn’t have diverse body shapes and sliders,
  • All websites like ModtheSims and TheSimsResource, for giving modders and CC creators a place to upload their work,
  • And of course, all bloggers like Lana CC Finds and MaxisMatchCCWorld, for reporting and collecting mods and custom content in a user-friendly manner,

Thank you all!

You all are amazing and we are forever in your debt! Not all heroes wear capes after all 🙂

PS: Everyone, let’s pamper them a little bit! Write all the compliments about your favorite Mod/CC creators down in the comments! Let us and them know what you like most about their work!
I will also check your comments every now and then to expand the list with the names I consider fit! Thanks for your contribution!

Cheers!

General Issues

  • Fixed some crashes that were occurring in Build Mode
  • The Maxis Curated filter in The Gallery will show the creations that have been carefully selected and reviewed and put in the spotlight.

Celebrating Twenty Years of The Sims Franchise with The Sims Community Team

2

The Sims franchise celebrated its twentieth birthday earlier this week and what an amazing twenty years it has been! For each and every one of us who has ever played any of The Sims games at any time during the games life, we will be able to recall numerous memories from playing. That could be a funny moment while playing, our favourite Sims to play, a build that we loved creating and so much more.

I went ahead and asked the Sims Community Team members to join me in sharing some of their own memories from The Sims franchise over the years.

ThePropertySims

My first encounters with The Sims were when I was very young, and I was somewhat sheltered as a kid. My friend introduced me to it, and also the “Woohoo” feature. To me, it was just a way to get a baby to spawn, but my mom was NOT HAVING IT. I can’t count the number of times I’d look over my shoulder and she’d be there making sure I wasn’t Woohooing too much or inappropriately. The Sims Makin’ Magic holds a really special place in my heart. I played that into the dirt. Bonehilda was, and will always be, my girl! I think I placed her with every family even if it didn’t make sense to. I mean, who wouldn’t want an awesome skeleton maid? Through the years I’ve watched this game evolve, and I’ve grown with it too. Through each stage of my life, The Sims has been there. It’s amazing to reflect back and realize that for 20 years of my life I’ve been enamoured with this game, and have absolutely no intention to ever stop playing it!

Celebrating Twenty Years of The Sims Franchise with The Sims Community Team

Honnahoops

My first memory of The Sims is quite funny to me now, but at the grand age of nine, The Sims 2 was the first Sims game I played. My mum told me that it was too “mature”, so the only time I got to play was at my friend’s house. I’d sneak over after school, pretend we were doing homework, and play together. We’d take it in turns to control the Sims and fight over who got to be the one to press “WooHoo”, not really knowing what it really meant. This takes me onto my next memory (and something I really miss from The Sims 4) is all the spontaneity of The Sims 2, tragic things happened without you knowing it would, your Sims could have a breakdown if their needs got too low, and it was definitely more dramatic if your Sim got turned down at the altar! One time, my Sim had a breakdown, and got left at the altar by scumbag Don Lothario after she caught him cheating on her with Cassandra Goth… she didn’t survive long after that to find out what happened next…

Sovereignsimmer

The Sims has been a real influence in my real life for the last 15 years if not 20. I have been playing the Sims since the first incarnation of the game but it actually became an important part of my life when I became a teenager and the Sims 2 got released. The game was revolutionary. It even helped me to choose my real-life profession. I never needed to search for gameplay mods or anything like that, I didn’t even know they were a thing until the Sims 3 when I faced some issues with gameplay. For this reason, the Sims 2 will forever be my top favourite Sims game. It felt like a surreal version of real life, my decisions in the Sims 2 actually had an impact on my Sims’ lives yet the game still maintained its fantasy and hilarious sense of humour. I still remember seeing various elements from the game for the first time, as one of my sims having the first-ever breakdown and seeing the shrink, interacting with social bunny, having to move from a haunted house, summoning a zombie… They were the best! It is a shame that we don’t have that level of depth in the Sims 4. One might assume such features would improve and advance with later incarnations of the game but… at least we have more advanced CAS & BB tools, right?  I can’t wait for the outcomes of the latest community survey though, I still have hope!

I wanna close my part with a meme I’ve created from a funny screenshot from the Sims 4. In this picture, the mother witch looks like she is threatening Grim Reaper to bring his son back from death. PS: I wish spellcasters actually had that kind of interaction with the Grim, sims 4 could never though…

Celebrating Twenty Years of The Sims Franchise with The Sims Community Team

Snarky Witch

“I’ve been playing The Sims and telling my stories with them since the original game, but back in the early days of The Sims 3, I started a story blog. My first big story was The Charm Legacy. It was about a spoiled, disagreeable woman named Marylee Charm who had to start her life over from scratch. The story followed the dramatic lives of her and her descendants for the next five generations and the blog did quite well and had a large readership. I still look back and miss it sometimes.”

Celebrating Twenty Years of The Sims Franchise with The Sims Community Team

Krista

A lot of my favourite memories come from the original The Sims game. It was the first game I properly played on PC and when I started I had no idea what I was doing or what I was getting myself into. There was just something about The Sims that grabbed my attention. I would spend hours watching my Dad play and then sneak onto the game when he was at work.

I remember the first time my Sims had a baby and I ended up moving all the necessities into one room so I could keep them in one place until the baby aged up to a child. It worked, it was incredibly cramped but it was the longest two (might have been three) Sim days ever. The same child Sim ended up being sent to Military School a few Sim days later too. Oops! I remember when I ‘accidentally’ drowned my Sim by deleting the Pool Ladder and when I finally had saved up enough Simoleans to move into 2 Sim Lane! Of course, soon after this, I discovered cheat codes, expansion packs (my expansion first pack being The Sims on Holiday) and custom content. My game was never the same again after that point. Little did I know I would be here twenty years later still enjoying the franchise I’ve grown up with!
