  • player_job’: TunableReference(description=’n Job for the main player sim that fights the plant.n
  • ‘helper_1_job’: TunableReference(description=’n Job for one of the helper Sims for the fight.n

The Sims 4 StrangerVille: SimGuruHouts Talks Story Integration

1

The Sims Team is doing something in The Sims 4 with the StrangerVille Game Pack that they’ve never done before – integrating a pre-made storyline into the world. Considering that this is a first in The Sims 4, SimGuruHouts went on The Sims Forums to elaborate what it actually means to have a story integrated into the world of StrangerVille:

It was an interesting challenge designing the story for StrangerVille. As you’re pointing out, players can change who lives there and even what the lot types are, so we can’t rely on those being the same as what we ship.

We did include a few things specific to some of the pre-made households and their houses, but it won’t break the story if you get rid of them or bulldoze their lots. First and foremost, The Sims is about letting you do what you want; forgetting that would be going against the strengths of the game.

Same thing with the venues: there are two standard venues that we placed in the world which have some special functionality. That functionality is tied to the venue type rather than the specific lots we built out, so if you want to customize your venues, the special stuff should still work as long as you keep the venue type the same (it doesn’t have to be on the same lot or anything, just as long as that venue type exists somewhere in StrangerVille). If you choose to get rid of those venues completely, you might miss some of the stuff that happens there, but it doesn’t break the story/investigation.

Our aim was/is to create a story that embraces the open-ended sandbox nature of The Sims rather than trying to ram some highly scripted linear experience through. Ideally, you’ll be able to tell your Sim’s story within the situations we serve up while staying true to the stories and personas you’ve created. It’s not perfect (it’s our first time trying something like this), but I’m proud of it and hoping it’s something we can develop further in future releases.

The Sims Mobile to transfer from Maxis Mobile Team to Firemonkeys

Earlier today EA Australia, also known as Firemonkeys, had made a decision to start a round of massive layoffs in their studio in Melbourne, Australia. According to Kotaku, the employees who remained in their positions were notified via a group meeting while those who had to be let go were noted individually.

The Firemonkeys Studios are most known for their work on mobile titles such as Need For Speed No Limits, Real Racing and The Sims FreePlay.

However, Kotaku’s article also mentions a rather interesting fact regarding another mobile title that’s not under their development. Well, not until now – The Sims Mobile. According to the article The Sims Mobile will soon fall under the management of Firemonkeys, meaning that the game and all of its development resources will have to be transferred all the way from EA Redwood Shores in San Francisco to Melbourne, Australia.

Those decisions included the cancellation of Real Racing 4 and a reorganisation of staff across the titles currently under their management, which includes The Sims Mobile.

It’s not yet known how will this exactly impact The Sims Mobile’s development and the game’s current development team.

We’ve reached out to EA regarding this topic and are hoping to get more official information soon…

Anyway, SimGuruGrant, senior producer working on The Sims 4 has admitted that this frame was only a “trick” that The Sims Video Team has done to charm up the video. However, due to a positive reaction by the community for this potential feature, Grant has confirmed that The Sims Team is now “looking into” adding this feature to the game soon. However, there are no promises!

  • StrangerVille has its own custom weather type, internally named “StrangeWeather”, that is different from anything currently in the game. You’ll probably still need to have Seasons installed for this weather to have effect.
  • Bathroom objects (toilets, bathtubs, sinks and showers) have new object states that reference some kind of plant infection. This is probably related to the “strangeness” that occurs in StrangerVille.
  • The notebook introduced in Get to Work is used to keep track of leads for the investigation.
