Community Spotlight: IllogicalSimmer

A Simmer who has caught my eye in the community lately is none other than IllogicalSimmer. You may or may not remember that IllogicalSimmer actually featured in one of our recent Gallery Spotlights for Affordable and Luxury Homes for his build Timber Eco.

Now I’ve followed IllogicalSimmer on Twitter for a little while now and he is always sharing amazing content from a variety of custom content, builds and Sims. You can find more of his creations on his Tumblr page by clicking here.

That’s not all though! IllogicalSimmer also has a Youtube channel where he shares a variety of different content including renovations, speed builds, series and more! Why not take a look at the recent Caravan Home speedbuild.

Seriously that is not all! One thing that IllogicalSimmer has shared a lot of recently is multiple renders inspired by Sims NPC’s, Sims from his game and also of players Simselfs and they are awesome. For starters, we have a render of everyone’s favourite Pancake, Bob Pancakes!

MODDERS BEWARE: The Sims 4 is getting a Python Upgrade

MODDERS BEWARE: The Sims 4 is getting a Python Upgrade

SimGuruModSquad has published a forum post on The Sims Official Forums saying that The Sims 4’s upcoming update is going to change and upgrade the current version of Python – a programming language and software which is used to help develop the game itself.

The upgrade will change the .pyo extension which is going to be replaced by .pyc. This change is going to affect ALL script mods meaning that since November they’ll completely stop functioning.

SimGuruModSquad wanted to make sure that all modders are ready and aware of this change so they can prepare and upgrade their script mods in time.

Hi everyone,

I want to give you a heads up that in an upcoming release, we will be upgrading the version of Python used by the game. We currently use Python 3.3.5 and will be moving to Python 3.7.0. Once this change is released, all compiled script mods will completely stop working. Note that in this new version of Python, the .pyo extension is replaced by .pyc, see https://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0488/

We know this will have impact on your script mod authoring pipelines so wanted to provide notice in advance so you can be ready for the change when it arrives. To assist, I’ve attached the Python scripts from the currently released version of the game (v1.46.18) recompiled under Python 3.7.0.

If all goes as planned, this change should arrive in November.

Note that there will not be any fundamental changes to tuning data, other than the typical types of changes we make to tuning for patches.

A New Pack for The Sims 4 to be announced this Month (Speculation)

All the pieces have come together now: Voiceover Artists hyping up the upcoming CNN Special, the Free Content Update being revealed yesterday and the mysterious hype for a Special Announcement happening next week – it all makes sense.

Now, before I dive in, note that everything mentioned below is pure speculation and doesn’t include the official statement that a new pack announcement is happening this month. However, there’s more than enough evidence that we’ve gotten that prove the fact that a whole new pack for The Sims 4 is on our way and will be announced this month.

Voiceover Artists and the CNN Special

Scott Whyte and Krizia Bajos, one of the voice actors working on The Sims 4 have released multiple clips on their Instagram where they’re giving completely new voiceovers that haven’t been heard in The Sims 4 before. You can hear all the new Simlish content that they’ve posted in the clip below:

Now, they’ve also mentioned the fact that there’s going to be a CNN Special that’s all about Simlish voice acting. Scott Whyte has confirmed to us that this is all going to be a part of CNN’s Great Big Story show. Although he didn’t confirm the exact date the episode about Simlish voice acting airs he did say that it’s airing this October.

The Free Content Update Reveal

Yesterday The Sims Team has shown major content that’s been supposed to arrive in October but got delayed due to the content needing more polishing. What we’ve seen yesterday are the Terrain Tools and a Stylist Influencer Career which frankly doesn’t seem to require that much voice acting (or any at all).

Scott has been referring that what he’s showing is for a “New Game Patch” but it seems he’s actually referring to a new Sims 4 Pack. With the CNN Special airing in October it could very likely be that the special has been scheduled to air after the next Sims 4 Pack announcement. Considering that CNN’s camera crew were capturing not only the voice actors but the screen showing the new animations it could very likely be that, due to the pack being under embargo, CNN is waiting for The Sims Team’s approval to air the show after the pack announcement and promote the upcoming pack along the way.

There’s another very interesting thing and that’s the fact that voiceovers for The Sims 4 Packs usually happen 2-3 months before the pack’s announcement. You can see the example of Krizia Bajos giving voiceovers on her Instagram Story Highlight (The Life of a Sim) for what seems to be The Sims 4 Seasons during March and April.

Another example is The Sims 4 Vampires Soundtrack being recorded 3 months before the game’s release.

Special Announcement Next Week

During yesterday’s stream SimGuruKate has suggested that we should book a time on our calendar for a special announcement that’s happening next week across The Sims’ social channels. If there’s anything that The Sims Team has done wide across all social channels (Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter etc.) it’s a new pack announcement.

New Paid Content Coming This Year

The last statement that proves that a new pack is being announced this month is SimGuruKate’s tweet which mentioned the fact that there’s going to be new paid content coming out this calendar year. If we look closer at all the previous times between the pack’s announcement and the pack’s actual release, there’s usually a period of 1 to 2 months for The Sims 4 Expansion Packs and a period of 2 to 4 weeks for The Sims 4 Game Packs.

It’s inevitable that there’s going to be a new pack releasing this year. However, considering the amount of voice acting that has been done for the unreleased content it’s definitely not a Stuff Pack…

The Sims Mobile: Major Live Event Coming This Month

Brandon Gill, a Creative Director for The Sims Mobile has teased during the Maxis Monthly Livestream that there’s going to be a new Major Event coming up later this month in The Sims Mobile. He didn’t say what this major event is all about but he did phrase a few times that October is the spookiest month and that we can expect the spookiest of events.

Here’s everything that he mentioned:

We have a pretty major live event happening this month and for those of you who are watching the stream and are a little bit in the know…we’re doing something a little bit different this time. Keep an eye out for a quest that’s going to kick off before the live event where you can earn some special decos that will help you out for the live event.

GrimSuruDoi, one of the developers working on The Sims 4 has sent other simmers out on a scavanger hunt to search for hidden images that have been uploaded on the internet. The scavanger hunt consists of few tweets with each tweet bringing a certain clue that altogether forms a link to an image that showcases the upcoming Terrain Tool Feature for The Sims 4 in action!

Game Changers were very quick to solve this puzzle and have already uncovered a few images.

Today’s Maxis Monthly live stream shared some awesome new features and details about the franchise and one new feature that is coming soon to The Sims 4 is the brand new Style Influencer career.

What do we know about the Style Influencer career?

  • It will be coming to us in the next patch and will be available to everyone. There is no need to have a specific pack to be able to access the career.
  • There are assignments your Sims can undertake to help them progress through the career as well as completing daily tasks.
  • The new career will help utilize the Create A Sim aspect of the game.
  • The starting point in the career is ultimately a freelance journalist but you are known as a Rag Reviewer.
  • The higher the level you are in the career path the more the Creativity side of your Sims will play a part in the Style Influencer career. This is where the painting and photography skills will come in handy.

The Sims 4: Everything We Know About The Upcoming Style Influencer CareerBut that’s not all!

  • You can discuss outfits with other Sims.
  • You can interview other Sims.
  • Style Influencer is a work from home career too!
  • Your Sims writing skill will improve helping them to create better articles.
  • There are two new signature items with the new career. One is the brand new Sketch Pad the other was not revealed on the stream.
  • The sketch pad is a portable digital easel and can be dropped straight into your Sims inventory.
  • There are multiple branches to the career.

We’re nearly there but there is still more!

  • The sketch pad can be upgraded with one upgrade that was mentioned would allow your Sims to create paintings faster.
  • There are new interactions where you can discuss fashion with another Sim and even ask a Sim to model a particular look. You can even offer to give a Sim a makeover. This may be a specific interaction for the “stylist” branch of the career. Beware! The Sim you ask may decline but the better your relationship with them the better chance you have of them allowing your Sim to do the make-over.
  • Makeovers will even work for Non-Playable Sims also.
  • Your Sim can set and create trends that other Sims may follow in.

Maxis Monthly has brought a ton of new surprises but it ended off on a really curious note.

As SimGuruKate was signing off the livestream she mentioned that there’s going to be a livestream on October 11th to showcase more of what we’ve already seen today on Maxis Monthly. However, there was another interesting thing that Kate has mentioned and we’re going to fully quote her statement:

If you liked what you saw here and you wanna see more of it we’re gonna be hosting a special livestream on October 11th at 11AM so we hope you’ll join us. We’re gonna dive a little bit more on some of the content that you’ve seen here.

And, you know, Dave, I think you might wanna book a little time on your calendar for early next week to make sure you check out our social channels. It’s less than a week away…

 

In case you don’t know, The Sims Team usually likes to use their social channels such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to promote upcoming new content. The first Maxis Monthly has just wrapped up and there was a lot of new and exciting things showcased during the live stream. One in particular which caught many Simmers by surprise was when SimGuruRomeo came on stream and swapped seats with Geoff. What we didn’t realize initially was that he was going to show us the early version of the brand new terrain tools that many of us have asked to be added to the game for a while. Of course, this new addition to the game will help both builders and storytellers.

So what do we know so far about the new terrain tools?

The new feature can be found in the same section in build mode where you find the terrain paints currently.

SimGuruKate has confirmed during the Maxis Monthly livestream that The Sims 4’s free Content Update that was planned for October (bringing a new Stylist Influencer Career and possibly the Terrain Tool along with it) has been postponed.

She hasn’t specifically said why but she did confirm that the team had to polish some things and make sure that the content update they’re bringing works best for everyone.
