Tomarang World Description

We’ve got you covered with everything you need to know about the new Sims 4 For Rent World of Tomarang, the neighbourhoods, lots, and more!

Lot Challenges found in Tomarang

Throughout the two neighbourhoods in the Sims 4 For Rent world of Tomarang, you’ll come across a new lot challenges. There are two specifically added to the expansion pack. This is the Mold and Maintenance Troubles lot challenge.

Here’s a quick overview of the two new lot challenges:

  • Mold: There is a dampness in the air here that just doesn’t feel right. Keep puddles mopped, trash from overflowing, and the plumbing objects clean or mold piles will start to appear, and beware of the deadly black mold pile!
  • Maintenance Troubles: Home ownership involves maintenance and this lot brings surprise events knocking.

It sounds like there could be some interesting times ahead as both a tenant and landlord in Tomarang!

Morensong Neighbourhood

A bustling neighbourhood with pockets of idyllic peace and nooks of neighbourly nuance! Morensong is the spot for vibrant communities to thrive, day or night. Stroll through the botanical garden or throw down a game of playground hopscotch. Even join the Night Market buzz for some sunset shopping and moonligh munchies. The possibilities are endless

The Sims 4 For Rent Objects Review

0

Every Build Mode item you’ll find in this Pack. Including the Hidden categories!

The 15th Expansion Pack has just been released, and we’re eager to show you all The Sims 4 For Rent Objects you’ll find in your game!

There are many layers within the new Build Mode catalogue of items. For Rent delivers a new set each for almost every room type. For professional builders and Sims 4 cheaters there’s a wide array of useful and decorative items in BuyDebug section. But beware, there are gameplay spoilers within this hidden catalogue!

Take a look at everything new:

Sims 4 For Rent Objects Catalogue

There are up to 200 new Sims 4 For Rent Objects that you’ll find within this Expansion Pack. The furniture draws inspiration from Southeast Asia with beautiful counters, elegant and tacky comfort objects. Yes, we’re talking about the adorable Indoor and Outdoor Plastic Chair and Stool set!

Indoor decorators will find a splendid amount of new wallpapers, floor tiles and moldy wall decals that will turn any rental unit into a fungus paradise.

There are useful cross-pack gameplay items such as radiators and air conditioning that will keep your unit hot or cold. Depending on the weather that you’ve installed with The Sims 4 Seasons Expansion!

Enough chit chat, see the entire Sims 4 For Rent Objects catalogue yourself:

The Street Eats Digital Content

Simmers who get this Expansion Pack by January 18th, 2024 will get additional three Sims 4 For Rent Objects, including:

  • Quick Treats Grill
  • Streetside Star Shade
  • Peak Freshness Fruit Basket
Sims 4 For Rent Preorder Bonus

See the catalogue previews of these items down below:

BuyDebug and Live Edit

Alright, this is the part that you might want to look away in case you don’t want your Sims 4 Live Mode gameplay experience to be ruined.

For those who want to know about *every single object* well you’re in luck! Down below you’ll find hidden objects that can only be unlocked through bb.showhiddenobjects and Live Edit Cheats.

Styled Rooms

I was hoping that the pack would offer a bit of a wider selection for styled rooms, as they best highlight the Pack catalogue. Still, it’s an understandable (and a decent amount) of five premade Styled Rooms that showcase The Sims 4 For Rent Objects.

Take an in-game preview of each of the five new styled rooms down below:

Final Review

The Build Mode list of objects definitely have some standouts that need to be showcased.

Down below you’ll find, what I at least to think, some of my favorite Sims 4 For Rent objects:

Almost Natural Springs Hot Tub

Sims 4 For Rent Objects: Hot Tub

The Indoor and Outdoor Plastic Chair

Sims 4 Plastic Chair

Mold in all Shapes and Sizes

Sims 4 Mold

The Gold Standard Squat Toilet

The Sims 4 For Rent: Squat Toilet Object

Tomarang Tuk-Tuk

Save The Elephants Teapot

Save the Elephants Teapot

Silly Gooseneck Electric Kettle

sims 4 for rent favorite objects 6

New (and Chipped) Iron Radiators

sims 4 for rent favorite objects 7

All in all, I think that The Sims 4 For Rent Expansion delivers an impressive amount of objects. Giving your rental journey space for storytelling and progression. All of these objects will fit in perfectly with any lot, whether you’re building in Tomarang or want to expand the Night Market to somewhere else.

I feel like these items perfectly encapsulate the essence of this Expansion Pack and what it’s all about. The only thing I mind is the fact that I hoped to see more Live Edit objects from Tomarang. Instead, I just ended up with a few extra clutter items on the side. That’s to say if we’d be trying to find a needle in a haystack over here.

Other than that, the catalogue has a fair amount of customization options that also span across different wall heights. Creating grand shared spaces and hallways will be a piece of cake!

Will Wright’s next Simulation Game is getting its Community!

0

Announcing our community partnership with Will Wright’s next video game – Proxi.

Will Wright, the master mind behind some of your favorite life simulation games (The Sims, SimCity, Spore to name a few) is back with a big project. Proxi, the name of his next big venture is aiming to simulate the closest, most precious thing a human can have – memories!

Gallium Studios is an indie game development studio behind Proxi. Made by developers, artists and experts in the life simulation genre. Will isn’t the only person to have past association with working on life sim games. Some folks within the studio have previously worked on IMVU and Second Life, as well as other games. Making the story and possible turnout of this video game project much more exciting!

Proxi

We have much to talk about Proxi, Gallium Studios and their Ambassadors Program. As well as announce our exciting new project!

Let’s dive in:

About Proxi

Proxi is an upcoming HD video game title from Gallium Studios, founded by Will Wright and Lauren Elliot. I wrote first about the game back in 2018 when it was first announced. During its course of development, the game had changed much in features, technology and focus. With the latest version bringing Artificial Intelligence to help you shape your memories to the best!

writing paper icon

In Proxi, memories from your life become the basic building blocks that your gaming landscape is built from. To make it simple and fun, the player simply types or speaks a story, and Proxi automatically takes its best guess to create a complete diorama – using 3d models, photos, graphic backgrounds, sounds, music and special effects which you can then modify and edit any way you like. (A bit like a magic version of the creature creator from Spore.)

Once you’ve added a few memories, you are then given a world to place and arrange them any way you like. They become like the buildings in SimCity with your mind as the city. The world, much like Sim City, is an interactive simulation that comes alive as you continue to design it.

– Gallium Studios

Proxi will soon get its first beta test for PC, and I’m excited to get the first look!

Proxi Ambassadors Program

This is your chance to be a part of Will Wright’s next game foundation!

Proxi Ambassadors Program

Proxi is inviting fans of the Life Simulation genre to join their community as they ramp up for their first reveal. Plus, players who want to get involved with the game’s development, beta hands-ons and more might want to consider joining the Proxi Ambassadors Program, which is open for a few more days.

If you’re interested in testing out Proxi and being directly involved with feedback sessions and exclusive events, this is the right opportunity for you!

Players who get accepted will be among the first ones to get their hands on Proxi. You can read more about the program by clicking the button below!

You have until December 12th, 2023 to send in your application for the Program.

Life Sim Games: Our Next Project

I’m excited to take this article as an opportunity to announce Life Sim Games – our next website currently in development!

lifesimgamesavatar

This year has been busy for the Life Simulation game genre. We’ve had an announcement of Life By You from Paradox Tectonic, followed by InZOI and onging updates from the exciting indie project – Paralives. Plus, The Sims Franchise as a whole has been super busy this year with 3 Expansions, the return of Stuff Packs and ongoing Content and News releases.

Joining the Proxi Ambassadors program made me want to seperate The Sims from the rest of the Life Simulation genre. Considering that Sims Community has been built on the foundation of Sims players and fans alike, this seemed like the best decision to make.

I’ll be announcing some exciting opportunities to join the Life Sim Games team in early 2024. Until then, we’ll still be doing casual reports about certain Life Simulation games outside of The Sims universe.

In 2024 you should expect Life Sim Games to be your new home for Proxi, Life by You, Paralives and InZOI news and updates. With Sims Community remaining your main central station for all things The Sims!

Life Sim Games will have direct community partnership with Proxi, bringing you exclusive content, interviews and online events to fans and readers. I can’t wait for the next chapter!

So, about Proxi again…

I’m intrigued!

There was a period in the course of Proxi’s development where the devs considered adding an NFT mechanism to the game. I was very critical of this decision and am very glad to say that they’ve removed this concept entirely.

The developers had good intentions towards creators to help them brand their Proxis and have them under the sole ownership of the player. However, they thoughtfully moved their focus towards better game technology and features.

Proxi

I’ve always been a fan of Will Wright’s games (and I’m sure you have been too if you’re reading this here). With inspiration from both Spore, The Sims and SimCity, Proxi is looking to be one charming video game. And I can’t wait to start reporting on it next year!

What are your thoughts? Let us know what you think about Proxi and our upcoming project Life Sim Games down below.

You keep up with Proxi’s official community over on Discord! The team will be doing their first ever AMA with the Proxi developer team. Prepare your questions for Monday!

The Sims 4 Apartments: New Ways to Get Creative!

The latest expansion pack, For Rent, is launching very soon. In light of this, players have been experimenting with Sims 4 apartments that already exist in the game to see just how far they can push customisation. We’re all for it! Who doesn’t love more customisation in a life simulation game, right?

Upgrade your Sims 4 apartments with these clever building tricks!

Clever and inquisitive Simmers on X (formerly Twitter) such as SilthulhuSims and haus_of_nando have discovered new ways to customise Sims 4 apartments in both City Living and Eco Lifestyle following yesterday’s patch that allowed players to edit the windows in apartments. Spoiler Alert: It’s not just windows. In fact, there’s a LOT that can be done on the exterior of Sims 4 apartments!

Customise Sims 4 Apartments Like Never Before!

Simmers like SilthulhuSims and haus_of_nando have discovered after yesterday’s update that they can place various objects both below and above their Sims 4 apartments on the outside of the building. It’s not just windows that can be added or replaced! See for yourself!

A Laundromat in Evergreen Harbour!

While windows, doors, and balconies of apartments in Eco Lifestyle are still very much stuck to their original spots and can’t be edited, Nando’s found out that the roof andE parts of the building below the active units can be customised!

He has created a fully functional laundromat in the empty shell of the ground floor of this apartment in Evergreen Harbour! How amazing is that? I always did hate that the whole ground floor of these buildings were a total waste of space in a game where the worlds are already too small to begin with. Imagine living in this Evergreen Harbour apartment and having a laundromat right downstairs, saving space on those appliances in your unit! Now you don’t have to imagine it anymore. It can be a reality.

You can take a closer look at Nando’s screenshot examples below! Just click on an image to enlarge it.

Also notice how Nando has added solar panels to the roof and changed a section of the roof to glass! He’s also made some very bendy, twisty stairs to show off that even the staircases are customisable now! We have to admit, the apartments that came with Eco Lifetyle were pretty lackluster and underwhelming but we might have to give customising them in this way a try to make them more fun to live in.

A private staircase to your apartment? Why not?!

Eco Lifestyle is not the only expansion pack to get this glow up for apartments. San Myshuno, the urban metropolis that came with the City Living expansion pack has gotten new life breathed into it as well. SilthulhuSims shows off just how much you can do to the exterior of the San Myshuno apartment buildings now!

If you want a separate staircase entrance to your apartment unit in San Myshuno, you can absolutely do that now! Of course, this example above looks a bit crazy but it’s a great example of some of the possibilities for customising your apartments in City Living now. You could build fire escapes, fancy private entrances, and so much more to glam up an apartment now.

And if you want to give your City Living apartments a glow up without doing a lot of construction work, that’s also possible! See how SilthulhuSims has added faux balconies, air conditioning units, vents, and flower boxes to the outside of this apartment building. It looks so much better compared to the buildings on either side now.

The Limitations of Apartment Customisation

But, as usual, there are still some limitations and drawbacks to what is possible when customising apartments in The Sims 4. SilthulhuSims found that while they could edit many things below their apartment unit, everything above their unit was often not editable.

You also can’t edit the communal hallways inside apartment buildings or the balconies of the apartments in Evergreen Harbour.

No, not in the communal hallways of CL apartments, and not the balcony areas of the EL apartments, but on the surrounding “lot” ground floor you can, and the EL Stonestreet apartments you can modify the whole lower half.

SilthulhuSims on X

It’s not all bad news, though! While the communal hallways are for the most part, uneditable, we do have the ability to use the eye dropper tool on objects in the communal hallways now to help us match the style of our apartments to the hallways.

You can also now eye-dropper from items that are in the communal hallways in the CL apartments, so I wonder if they did semi-unlock them and decide against unlocking them fully after some playtesting? Idk, seems like an interesting change though.

SilthulhuSims on X

It’s a bummer that we still can’t put objects in the communal hallways of the San Myshuno apartments or edit the balconies of the Evergreen Harbour apartments but this new building freedom on apartment lots is still a huge step in the right direction. We hope The Sims Team takes note of how much players love this newfound freedom and continue to expand upon it in the future!

The Best Sims 4 Stuff Packs for 2023

What are the best Sims 4 Stuff Packs for 2023? It really is such a big question. There are so many different factors that we as players could say that define what makes a Stuff Pack the best!

Having celebrated its ninth anniversary, The Sims 4 is still going from strength to strength with many players still remaining positive about the franchise and its future alongside some critique.

Despite taking a hiatus since early 2021, Stuff Packs made a triumphant return in 2023. Their return and the recently added Home Chef Hustle Stuff Pack. It proved to be a hit with players with many hoping to see more Stuff Packs in the future.

A History of Stuff Packs

The Sims 4 Stuff Packs were first introduced back in May 2015, around six months after the game’s initial launch. This was in the form of The Sims 4 Luxury Party Stuff. Adding a selection of new Create A Sim items, Build and Buy mode objects too. From there players saw Stuff Packs added periodically alongside the likes of Game and Expansion Packs. Covering a wide range of themes from all things Spooky and Movie Night related to Toddler and Child Sims content and even Tiny Living and Knitting Skills. Not to mention a collaboration with luxury fashion brand, Moschino. We also can’t forget to community curated Stuff Packs either!

What Makes the Best Sims 4 Stuff Packs for 2023?

Of course, the big question is what makes the best Sims 4 Stuff Packs for 2023?

Is it the gameplay experience you get when you explore that Stuff Pack? The new Create A Sim options that open up more ways to style your Sims or maybe even Build and Buy mode objects to help you create some out-of-the-box builds.

Whatever the reason may be, there are plenty of contenders to be the best Sims 4 Stuff Packs for 2023. Who will make it out victorious? Will it be a close call or will there be a clear winner? On the other hand which Stuff Pack will be the unlucky ones at the bottom of the rankings when the vote is over?

The Sims 4 For Rent: A Cool Look at Tenants!

0

The Sims 4 For Rent is launching on Thursday, December 7th, 2023. To get the game ready for the expansion, there’s been an update to the game today. Of course, as soon as the update dropped, modders started combing through the game files for anything new they could find.

sims 4 for rent

An in-depth glimpse at how tenants function in The Sims 4 For Rent!

One modder, Zerbu, has uncovered some really cool and interesting information about how tenants will function in The Sims 4 For Rent. It’s a lot more in-depth than we expected and we can’t wait to show you what’s been found so far!

preorder bonus

The Sims 4 For Rent Tenant Details

Check out everything modders uncovered about The Sims 4 For Rent! Including interesting information not previously mentioned by The Sims Team!

Cats and Dogs Can Be Tenants

Tenant Selection Info from Modders
Source: Zerbu on X

We already know that for players who own the Cats and Dogs expansion pack, landlords will be able to instate a No Pets rule for Residential Rentals. But not every Residential Rental has to be anti-pet! Cats and dogs can be considered as tenants, too. We imagine this likely means that a landlord Sim selecting new tenants will be able to see whether a household includes cats or dogs.

Cats and Dogs

Zerbu also noted that horses cannot be tenants in a Residential Rental. We suppose this makes sense, given that most Residential Rentals have limited space in units, although this might be kind of a bummer for players wanting to build a farm that’s split up into rental units.

23 Different Tenant Events!

Tenant Event Info from Modders
Source: Zerbu on X

There are WAY more events tenants can contact their landlord about than we realised! In Zerbu’s tweet, we can see up to 23 different events that can happen. Everything from insect infestations to late rent to sewage leaks, rule breaking, trash overload, and even tenant revolts can happen on Residential Rental lots. That’s a lot of chaos to keep up with and keep under control but hey, that’s all in a day’s work for a landlord in The Sims 4 For Rent!

Tenant Events

Maximum Rent Cap and Tenant Agreeability

Zerbu also discovered a lot of new information regarding how the game will calculate maximum rent caps and what determines whether a tenant will pay their rent on time or not. This could be useful to know for any aspiring landlords in The Sims 4 For Rent.

For Rent Rent Info from Modders
Source: Zerbu on X

Maximum rent will be calculated by how many floor tiles a unit has multiplied by the star rating of the unit. According to Zerbu, a 5 star rating is the base number and any stars below that result in a lower modifier. Basically, if you want to be able to charge the highest rent possible, you’ll need spacious units with lots of nice things in them to get that rating up to 5.

Tenant rent caps are not completely random. They are based on how many simoleons the household has. Additionally, Sims who are level 5 or higher in their careers are more willing to pay higher rent. This makes a lot of sense. After all, the higher level a Sim is in a career, the more money they make and therefore, they’ll have more money to splurge on a nice place with a higher rent rate.

THESIMS4GETTOWORK

In addition to the career level rules that dictate how willing a Sim is to pay high rent, some Sims in certain careers are more willing to pay high rent regardless of what level they are at. For base game careers, Astronauts and Business Sims will be happy to pay higher rent. For expansion packs, Doctors and Scientists (Get To Work), Engineers and Law (Discover University) Sims are happy to pay high rent regardless of their career level.

We really appreciate Zerbu going out of his way to bring the community this new information. It’s very detailed and has us even more excited to play The Sims 4 For Rent later this week. Thank you, Zerbu!

The Sims 4 Patch Brings Unexpected Features! (December 2023 Overview)

There’s a brand new Sims 4 patch for December 2023! This update prepares the base game for the upcoming launch of the new For Rent expansion pack, coming later this week on Thursday, December 7th, 2023. It also adds plenty of tweaks, fixes, and new features to the base game!

Check out all the new update features in the base game!

Some of the features added to the base game in today’s Sims 4 patch include the ability to boil tea water in the microwave (yeah, we know… monstrous but it’s apparently a thing now), an updated business UI, and the ability to assign sinks as either bathroom or kitchen sinks. Putting an end to the years-long struggle of Sims taking their dirty dishes up 3 flights of stairs to wash them in the bathroom instead of using the sink that was right next to them, hurray!

The Sims 4 Patch for December 2023

Check out everything new in the base game after today’s Sims 4 update! There’s a lot of useful and fun new content for players to explore.

Sink Assignments

Sims 4 Update December 5 2023 Sink Assignments

At long last! Gone are the days of Sims insisting on washing their dishes in the bathroom sink and not the kitchen sink! Players can now click on any sink on their lot and assign it as a bathroom or kitchen sink. Once assigned, Sims will know the difference between a hand-washing sink and a dish-washing sink and will act accordingly.

It only took nine years but hey, better late than never!

Household Control Switch

Sims 4 Patch: December 2023 Overview

When For Rent releases, players will need to go through a load screen to switch control to a household in another unit on the same lot. To cut down on unnecessary menus making that process even more cumbersome, lots and units now have a quick-control option. You can click on the front door of another lot or unit and select Switch Control to this Household. You’ll immediately be taken to that family to play with.

This will make playing multi-generational homes much easier. You’ll be able to take control of other branches of the family after just the one load screen rather than having to go through the hassle of exiting to Manage Worlds and choosing that household to play.

Indoor Shoe Rules

Shoe Rules

Indoor shoe rules were introduced in The Sims 4 Snowy Escape but now this feature has been brought to the base game. You can click on either one of the base game shoe racks to set the indoor shoe rules for the home. Tell Sims to take their shoes off and either go barefoot/with socks or to replace their shoes with slippers.

Promotional Bonus Pajama Set is now Base Game

Sims 4 Patch: New PJs

This was not mentioned in the patch notes but remember that pajama set that was only available to PC players with an EA Play subscription? Well that rather controversial pajama set is now properly available in the base game for everyone. Controversy no longer, hurray!

New Feminine Clothing in CAS

Feminine Outfit

Another sneaky thing that didn’t get a patch note mention in the Sims 4 patch is the new feminine outfit in CAS! Players now have access to a Southeast Asian fashion-inspired full body outfit for feminine Sims. The outfit features a tucked in shirt with baggy pants and a long ankle-length throw-over layered on top in various patterns and colours.

Business UI Improvements

The Sims 4 Patch: Business UI Revamp (December 2023)

Another change not mentioned in the Sims 4 patch notes. The UI for businesses has been cleaned up and reorganized, with vet clinics, restaurants, and retail businesses being in separate categories now. This is likely to minimize UI clutter when the Residential Rental business type is added to the game on Thursday with the For Rent expansion pack.

Boil Tea Water in the Microwave

Sims 4 Update December 5 2023 Microwave Water

Ever wanted to boil water for your tea in a microwave? Yep. You can do that now.

Edit Windows in San Myshuno Apartments

Editable San Myshuno Apartments

We’re not sure why this wasn’t mentioned in today’s Sims 4 patch notes. It seems like a pretty big deal but the update added the ability to edit the windows in San Myshuno apartment lots! Something Simmers have been begging for since the City Living expansion pack came out seven years ago.

If you were hoping the same would be true for Evergreen Harbour apartments, we’re sorry to disappoint you but apartment windows in that world remain static and can’t be changed.

The gurus did confirm that this Feature update was intentional, so here’s to hoping they’ll revisit Evergreen Harbour apartments soon!

Functional Radiator from Vampires

Good news for everyone who owns The Sims 4 Vampires Game Pack! The Modern Iron Radiator object from this Pack now has proper functionality and can be Turned On. If you have the Seasons EP installed you’ll also be able to sync the radiator with the Thermostat!

With Seasons, the object will be able to heat up your home properly.

What to Expect in The Sims 4 For Rent Expansion Pack

0

The Sims 4 For Rent is almost here! Members of the EA Creator Network have already had the opportunity to play the pack in early access but the latest expansion pack for The Sims 4 will be available to everyone this Thursday, December 7th, 2023.

Find out everything we know about The Sims 4 For Rent so far!

The Sims 4 For Rent

There’s been a lot of coverage and news coming directly from the developers regarding this pack so we thought it’d be a good idea to take all of the information that’s been confirmed so far and condense it for you in nice, organized sections. We’ll break down everything players can expect about property management, building Residential Rentals, and other gameplay features.

The Sims 4 For Rent: Everything We Know So Far

Let’s dive right into every part of The Sims 4 For Rent that’s been confirmed so far! Remember, the developers always keep some things a surprise for players to discover on their own, so we’re sure there will be even more to explore than what’s been shown on Thursday!

The World of Tomarang

Tomarang World map
From the Official Livestream

Tomarang (pronounced TOM-A-RONG) is the brand new world shipping with The Sims 4 For Rent. It is inspired by Southeast Asia and contains heaps and heaps of lore, activities, and surprises to discover, some of which we already know about!

For example, Tomarang is a full size residential world with 2 neighbourhoods and a total of 10 lots, 5 in each neighbourhood. If that doesn’t sound like a lot of space to work with, remember that you could potentially have up to 60 residential homes in Tomarang if you were to replace every lot with a 6-unit Residential Rental. That’s potentially up to 480 Sims living in Tomarang if you were so inclined to set up this world in that way.

Tomarang Neighbourhood

Tomarang has a lot of common space outside of lots, too! The urban area of Tomarang, called Morensong, contains a park with hopscotch for kids to play on, as well as a botanical garden which is in fact on a lot so you can customize it! The more rural neighbourhood of Koh Sahpa contains a tiger sanctuary that Sims can visit! The tiger sanctuary is a rabbithole but you will get story pop-ups about what your Sims are getting up to inside. Visiting the tigers both during the day and at night (illegally) can give your Sims certain objects as rewards.

Night Market

The much-advertised night market in Tomarang is in the Morensong neighbourhood. Sims can purchase fresh fish and many brand new dishes inspired by Southeast Asian cuisine. There is also a trinket stall in the night market where you can purchase tassels, which are a new collectible! Sims who collect all the tassels can combine them to get a special reward object. Marbles are another collectible in the expansion and the jar to display them in can be purchased from the trinket stall at the night market as well.

As if that already wasn’t a lot to do and explore, there is also a huge swimming area in Tomarang. Sims who swim to the other side of it can explore a cave that also contains lots of lore and possible rewards.

Building a Residential Rental

Residential Rental apartment

While Tomarang is beautiful and a fun place to explore, the main draw of The Sims 4 For Rent is the new lot type that allows multiple households to live on one lot. The official name of the new lot type is Residential Rental, not to be confused with regular Residential lots or vacation Rental lots. Residential Rentals are their own lot type with unique functionality.

Residential Rentals are not apartments. The apartments in City Living and Eco Lifestyle are not customizable on the outside. Players can only decorate and make modifications to the indoor space. Residential Rentals can be built from the ground up just like any other residential property in the game. This gives players the freedom to use the Residential Rental functionality for duplexes, attached town homes, condominiums, homes with rental rooms, university dorms, and many other different types of living arrangements with multiple households.

Separate Units

Once you’ve built your Residential Rental in The Sims 4 For Rent, splitting up the living space is as easy as clicking on a room and assigning it to a unit! You can designate shared spaces in a Residential Rental, too, so you can provide amenities for all the residents living there, like pools, gyms, recreation rooms, and anything else you want.

In Live Mode, you won’t be able to see what’s inside other units being rented by different households. Visiting your neighbour’s unit will require you to go through a load screen; however, there is a new quick-travel feature to eliminate cumbersome menus when traveling to other units. You can now just click on any residence in a neighbourhood and choose to travel there. This feature will be coming to the base game as well.

Designate shared spaces

Don’t worry; you’ll still get a chance to see your neighbours without load screens, especially if there are shared spaces in the building. The other residents will periodically exit their units to use the objects in the shared spaces, so if you want to skip the load screens, you can catch up with them there.

Although the game does give you suggestions for what objects make a good rental unit with a higher rating, you are not obligated to follow those guidelines. You can include or omit whatever you want from individual units.

You can build a Residential Rental almost anywhere you want, not just in Tomarang. You can also easily switch a Residential lot to a Residential Rental in Build Mode. The only places you cannot build Residential Rental properties in The Sims 4 For Rent is Sulani waterfront properties, vacation worlds, and San Myshuno penthouse lots.

Managing Tenants

Dealing with Tenants

There’s a lot that goes into managing a Residential Rental in The Sims 4 For Rent. Property owners can choose to live in a unit alongside their tenants or they can live elsewhere and manage the property from a distance.

When filling vacant units in The Sims 4 For Rent, players can click on the new For Rent sign to bring up the current tenant agreement. This is where they can set the rent for all units, the length of the lease on units, and set any rules for tenants to abide by. You can instate rules such as no noise after 10pm, no social events, no ghosts, or put a cap on how many people can live in each unit. If Cats and Dogs is installed, you can also have a no pets rule.

Tenant Agreement

Click on a vacant unit you’d like to fill which will bring up a selection of potential tenants and their info. You can see how many Sims are in the household and what age groups they all are, how many beds they need, and how much they’re willing to pay in rent. You can use all this information to select the best tenants for the units you have.

Evict Sims for being late on rent

Of course, not every tenant will follow the rules. You may find that some tenants blatantly disregard the rules you’ve put in place, or they are consistently late on rent payments. If this happens, you can evict them and get better tenants. You can also give struggling Sims a break and offer them second chances, though. They could appreciate your kindness and turn things around! While you can evict Sims for no reason at all, doing so without a valid reason is an unjust eviction and there will be negative consequences for your Sims for unjustly evicting a tenant.

Building Maintenance

Building mishaps

Owning a rental property in The Sims 4 For Rent isn’t just about filling up units and sitting on your butt waiting for rent money to roll in. Buildings require maintenance and as the landlord, it’s your responsibility to handle things like broken appliances and mould infestations.

Tenants will periodically contact you requesting help with a problem in their unit. Their water heater could be leaking, the AC unit might be broken, or they could have a mould or electrical problem. You have the option to handle it quickly by hiring either a cheap or an expensive contractor. You can also try to fix the problem yourself. If you choose to fix it yourself, you’ll begin an event at the tenant’s unit and you’ll have to complete the goals during the event to fix up the unit to the tenant’s satisfaction.

Maintain rental properties

You can make life extra difficult by applying some building-related lot challenges to a unit. Yep! Lot challenges on Residential Rentals are per unit, not for the whole building. There are also lot challenges to add the building maintenance functionality to regular residential homes if you want this gameplay in a regular Residential, too.

More Gameplay

New Elder trait: Wise

Of course, most of The Sims 4 For Rent’s gameplay revolves around owning and managing rental properties but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing else to this pack! The Sims 4 For Rent also comes with 5 new traits, including one Elder-specific trait called Wise. The Wise trait can be acquired in gameplay from aging up. Sims with certain traits like Genius are more likely to gain the Wise trait when they become Elders. The other 4 traits are Cringe, Generous, Child of the Village, and Nosy.

The Sims 4 For Rent also comes with four new aspirations, each focused on a different aspect of the pack. Fount of Tomarani Knowledge is a Location aspiration. Seeker of Secrets is a Deviance aspiration. Discerning Dweller is a Popularity aspiration, and Five Star Property Owner is a Fortune aspiration.

Rice cooker countertop appliance

There are two new appliances that come in The Sims 4 For Rent; a rice cooker, and a kettle which Sims can use to boil water for either coffee or tea! Sims will also now be able to boil water for their tea in the microwave. Y’know… if you’re uncivilized like that

Kettle countertop appliance

One not-so-wholesome activity Sims can partake in in The Sims 4 For Rent is snooping on their neighbours. There are lots of secrets to uncover about people in The Sims 4 For Rent and Nosy Sims will be particularly good at sniffing them out. Sims can spy on other Sims in public places or even break into their neighbour’s homes when they aren’t around to go snooping through their stuff! If Kleptomaniac Sims break into a home, they can also swipe stuff while they’re there.

Breaking and entering

Breaking and entering is a timed event so if you’re going to go breaking into people’s homes, you’d better make sure you’re gone before the timer runs out. If you’re not, you could get caught! The effort and risk could be worth it if you uncover a juicy secret, however. Once your Sim has uncovered a secret about another Sim, they can use it to blackmail them. You can break into any residential lot, not just residential rentals.

Death by Mould

Oh, and did we mention there’s new dances and a new mould-related death type, too? Don’t worry; mould deaths are optional.

We can’t wait to dive into everything The Sims 4 For Rent has to offer later this week! And if you missed the developer livestream, you can catch up right here!

Latest Update Causes Chaos for Sims 4 Mods

The December 5th Sims 4 update was one of the largest updates we’ve seen ahead of a new pack launch. This patch in particular was delivered to players in two parts but contained a number of bug fixes and some new Base Game content.

While we know that using the Sims 4 Mods means players who are on PC or Mac will have to ensure they follow the correct updating process when a new patch is released, sometimes mods will break. It’s one of those things, that can happen. However, sometimes a new Sims 4 update can break mods completely and while it is rare, it does happen.

Sims 4 Update, Sims 4 Mods

The Sims 4 Update

What did the update do to the Sims 4 Mods?

To put it simply, the latest patch has caused a number of issues for many script mods. This has resulted in many being unusable while Mod Creators work on updating the mods and testing them with the latest version of the game before releasing them to the public.

While many Sims 4 Mods creators expected this latest patch to break mods, it’s clear it broke a lot more than first thoughts.

What are the Sims 4 Mods Creators Saying?

A number of mod creators have taken to their social media platforms to share their initial Sims 4 Mods status updates and general thoughts.

TwistedMexi, the creator behind mods like Better Exceptions, T.O.O.L and Better Build Buy too to X (formerly Twitter) to share several updates regarding their own mods.

With the first of several mods being tested, TwistedMexi went on to add that this patch had a significant impact on mods overall.

Meanwhile, MC Command Centre creator Deaderpool, shared on Patreon an update regarding the impact this latest patch has had.

Likewise, the same message was also echoed on their Discord Server with members being kindly reminded that the team will be working hard on ensuring the highly popular mod is updated and ready as soon as possible.

Lumpinou previously shared ahead of the 5th December 2023 Sims 4 Update that it was likely that mods would break and to be mindful that testing and updating mods will take time with announcements to follow as soon as possible.

Since sharing this post earlier today, Lumpinou has shared an additional update on their Patreon. You can read this update in full here.

LilMsSam also took to X to share an update regarding their mods stating that she will be doing their best to check and update mods as soon as possible but due to a recent injury. Due to this, updates to their mods may take longer although a small first wave of updates has been released.

The Sims Community Team wish you a speedy recovery!

Frankk who is the creator of the Language Barriers mod was also impacted by the latest Sims 4 Update but their smaller mods seem to be working okay currently. Again, an update is on the way for the Language Barriers mod!

Zebru also shared an update stating that they will be checking and testing their Sims 4 Mods following this Sims 4 update. They also shared how they would be taking a look at the game code to try and find some answers to some of the burning questions players have about The Sims 4 For Rent!

How to Keep Up to Date?

Are you wondering what the easiest way is to keep up to date with all your favourite mods? If you are on Discord, the Deaderpool Discord Server has a wonderful feed under their Mods News Channel that you can follow. It can also be found linked on the Sims Community Discord under the Mods and CC News Channel.

Alternatively, you can check out Luth’s Mods & CC Updates post over on the EA Answers HQ. Again this is an excellent detailed list players can use to keep up to date. This is also the same post that was previously found on The Sims official forums but made the move to the EA Answers HQ recently.

Are you new to modding in The Sims 4 and aren’t sure what the correct process is when it comes to patch day? We’ve got you covered with this handy walkthrough right here.

A Kind Request

While players know that using the Sims 4 Mods and custom content in their game will mean ensuring they are updated when there is a new patch, we all understand it can also be frustrating at times. However, it’s important to keep in mind that as soon as a new the Sims 4 Update is released, modders will be doing their utmost to get their mods checked, tested and updated as quickly as possible! So please, over the next few days be kind and courteous towards mod creators, they will ensure they share updates on our favourite mods as soon as they are available!

Sims 4 Console Bug Warning

Second Sims 4 Patch is out now!

There’s another Sims 4 Update released right now! That’s right, a second update for The Sims 4 has been depleted just an hour after the first one. If you haven’t downloaded the first update then don’t worry, you’ll only have to download one version – the latest one!

I’ve compared the sizes of each Sims 4 Update on my Mac. The first Update was around 1GB, while the second one was at 450MB. These sizes vary depending on your platform and have only been mentioned as a unit measurement of how many changes have been made behind the scenes.

We still don’t know exactly why there have been two updates for the game. However, we’ll keep you posted if anything surfaced beside the highly expected Patch notes…

Sul Sul Simmers!

The newest expansion pack has been freely living in all our heads and For Rent is finally due! The Property Owner is coming to visit in just a few days, but in the meantime there’s a couple of Base Game additions and a bevy of fixes to call out and share. Our favorite SimGuruNova is going to go into details below. Thanks all!

-SimGuruNinja

What’s New?

  • Sink Assignments – The jig is up for Sims who had a penchant for shoving Harvestfest turkey bones down the drains of those poor, poor bathroom sinks. Starting today, all sinks can now be designated as Kitchen or Bathroom sinks.

The assignment you choose determines whether hands or dishes are autonomously washed in them. Unless, of course, you live for the chaos and assign the wrong labels to each sink. We won’t stop you from letting your Sims continue to be little freaks!

  • Switch Control to This Household
Switch Control to this Household Option Feature

Listen, as much as we love the Manage Worlds screen, every healthy relationship requires a bit of space. So, we’ve declared a bit of independence from Manage Worlds, giving you the chance to switch your active household from Live mode directly with the “Switch Control to This Household” interaction! While we added this as a means to switch between units of your Residential Rental more seamlessly, this interaction will be available on the front door of all occupied residences, not just Residential Rental units. Rejoice with me, my fellow rotational gameplay Simmers!

  • Base Game Additions That’ll Knock Your Shoes Off

In celebration of the release of For Rent, we have a few housewarming goodies coming to the Base Game. Along with a cozy new outfit that’ll have your Sims lounging in style, Sims can now interact with the Men’s Shoe Rack and Women’s Shoe Rack items from Base Game to set rules for the house determining whether or not shoes are removed at the door. Which means everyone will know whether or not your Sim is wearing socks under those sneakers (please, for my sanity, make sure they are!)

New The Sims 4 Update: Footwear Rules

Bug Fixes

Base Game / Multipack

  • Quick Meal interactions on fridges have been renamed to “Quick Meal or Drink” and “Microwaved Quick Meal or Drink”. Gone are the days of “Glass of Milk” erasure!
  • Sims who finish their drinks while also eating will now make sure to finish their meal afterward. That’s right, Mrs. Landgraab, chugging your Juice on the Rocks doesn’t count as “girl dinner”.
  • Child Sims with the Genius trait will no longer gain the Want to Solve Hard Problems, They’ll have to wait a few years before diving into such complex abstraction.
  • Sims with a Fear of Fire will no longer be tormented by constant, unavoidable fires starting while they are cooking.
  • On a somewhat related note, Sims will no longer be given the option to Cook Together on broken stoves.
  • In an attempt to curtail unwarranted surreal horror gameplay, household members should no longer randomly be labeled as neighbors and become unable to use doors.
  • In the spirit of respecting the laws of physics, towels hung on the wall are no longer translucent when hit with natural light.
  • Though they are things of beauty, certain columns will now, indeed, fade away… when they would otherwise be blocking the camera in Live Mode.
  • Sims will no longer be constantly using their phones at every hour of the day. Not a cell phone in sight, just simulated people living in the moment. Beautiful.
  • Hairy houseguests deciding to shave in your Sim’s bathroom will no longer cause the game to freeze.
  • Sims should now actually be able to finish writing songs. Perhaps those of us with closets full of unfinished projects should take notes.
  • Child Sims will now only have age-appropriate thought bubbles.
  • After plenty of confidence building exercises, certain table lamps will no longer snap to the wall when placed and will be comfortable standing wherever you place them.
  • Infants who age up in a dirty diaper will no longer produce stink clouds as if forced to wear that dirty diaper into adulthood (Rest assured, I hated writing that just as much as you hated reading it).
  • Sims will thankfully no longer slip and fall in mud puddles while holding an infant.
  • Adjusted frequency of body hair on randomized Sims to be slightly less excessive.
  • Some of the less friendly toddler and infant hairs have been taught proper conflict resolution and will now play nicely with hats.
  • Sims living on Private Dwelling lots are now willing to make exceptions for food deliveries. Because everyone loves a good pizza, even territorial curmudgeons.
  • Basement stairs should now play nicely with terrain when the lot has a raised foundation.
  • Changing foundation height should no longer stop windows from being placed on curved walls.
  • Sims have learned what it means to be that guy and will no longer constantly ask “What Happened?” for no apparent reason during conversations.
  • Sims who would invite themselves over and make themselves a little too welcome have relearned their manners and should now knock.
  • Much to the disappointment of illusionists everywhere, glass walls over basements should no longer hide basement walls when viewed from above.
  • We’ve educated Sims on the dangers of over-caffeination, so autonomous coffee making/drinking should happen a bit less frequently.
  • Blonde gardeners and redhead pizza deliverers everywhere can breathe a sigh of relief, because parents with graying hair swatches are now more likely to have children that match their base hair color, rather than unexpected red or blonde hair.
  • When loading back into a save and entering Manage Worlds, there’s no longer a chance that occupied lots appear empty.
  • A previously unnamed PooHoo bush has now discovered its true name.

Console

  • Hitting the Undo button on the controller no longer pulls up the search bar in Build Mode.

Kits

  • The nails from Poolside Splash are now tagged for both masculine and feminine frame Sims.
  • As fun as it was, Sims should no longer grow a second pair of feet when wearing the retro bikini from Poolside Splash.

Laundry Day

  • Hampers can now be dragged in and out of Sim inventories in Live Mode. The excuses for putting off laundry end here!
  • Dirty cloth diapers will now go into laundry hampers, where they belong, rather than the floor, where they do not belong.

Dream Home Decorator

  • The Standard Gas Oven by Blazin’ Ladles no longer disappears when placed on lots. May your ladles remain ever ablaze…

My Wedding Stories

  • Certain veils should no longer force Sims to have red hair (seriously, what is it with this update and red hair?)

Werewolves

  • Werewolves will no longer autonomously Check On infants during their rampage. And thank goodness for that.

Seasons

  • Plants no longer revert to dirt piles in dormant phases, and instead will simply stop growing. They should also now only become dormant when entering their off seasons, at the appropriate time.

Get Famous

  • Sims who have chosen to forgo the spotlight will no longer gain unwanted fame.

Cottage Living

  • Sims will now retain the Heroic Haggler buff when buying discounted items at village shops after haggling. Let them enjoy their Karen moment!
  • Your Sims will no longer be doomed to a life of Sisyphean crafting endeavors. They should now be able to complete the task to create a Cross-Stitch for the Taste for Adventure errand.

High School Years

  • The pink swatch of the Benchmark Seating chair is no longer masquerading as blue in the preview.
  • Teens who get more than 250 Social Bunny followers should now be able to complete the third level Admired Icon aspiration.

Growing Together

  • Playing other households will no longer cause Sims to forget certain achieved Milestones. In other words, the game will neither gaslight nor gatekeep your girlboss Sims anymore.
  • We gave that creepy tree in San Sequoia a stern warning. It should no longer be encroaching upon the buildable area of the Sequoia Cottage lot.
  • Sims will no longer earn the First Promotion milestone when getting a new job, no matter how much your Sim is willing to be annoying and debate the semantics of that.
  • Toddlers should now be able to Sing a Song with infants without being interrupted.

Horse Ranch

  • Your adorable little money laundering scheme has yee’d its last haw! Sims will no longer receive double the stated number of Simoleons for selling mini goats and sheep.
  • Sims riding horses should now have an easier time saying howdy (and other things) to other horses nearby.
  • Sims will no longer be taunted by an unreachable log filled with frogs in Chestnut Ridge.
  • The era of heavy metal square dancing has waned. Sims will now only autonomously perform Cowpoke Dance if Ranch music is playing.

For Rent

  • Fixed an issue where rent could go into negatives or be excessively high.

The Sims 4 Story Starter Kit: Unraveled Success

Welcome to our twenty-first official The Sims 4 Story Starter Kit! If you missed all the info on The Sims 4 Story Starter Kits, you can read more about what they are and how they work in our introductory article!

Two successful parents. One misunderstood teen. A recipe for unraveling.

For this month’s The Sims 4 Story Starter Kit, we’re bringing you a well-educated, successful middle-aged couple and their withdrawn, moody son. Both are pressuring him to pursue higher education after high school and follow in their footsteps, but Curtis just wants the freedom to create and forge his own path.

The Sims 4 Story Starter Kit: Unraveled Success

Sims 4 Story Starter Kit

Rosa and Ross met while studying at Foxbury Institute. They’re the epitome of that couple that did everything exactly right in exactly the right order. They studied hard in high school, got good grades, and went to a prestigious university. They dated through university, prioritizing their studies and got married after graduation. Then they spent several years building their careers and their savings before planning to grow their family. That’s when their son, Curtis, came into the picture!

As highly educated, successful people, Rosa and Ross placed a lot of expectations on their only child. They always encouraged him to study hard and get good grades so he could get into a good university like they did. They even settled in Britechester before Curtis was born to ensure he’d have access to the finest post-secondary education possible. They took every measure to make sure their child grew up to be as successful as them one day.

But Ross and Rosa quickly learned that children are not always carbon copies of their parents. Sometimes, they have their own personalities and interests that diverge greatly from what their parents expected of them. And sometimes, they aren’t good at the things their parents are good at. Curtis was not the bright academic that Ross and Rosa imagined he would be when he was born. He struggled in most subjects at school except art, where his teachers always praised him for his skill in fibre arts, in particular.

Rosa and Ross weren’t against their son having hobbies, but that’s all they saw his artistic talent as; a silly little hobby. Not a future career. When Curtis developed a passion for knitting and expressed to his parents that he was considering starting a Plopsy shop to sell the clothes he knits instead of going to university, it felt like all of Ross and Rosa’s hopes and dreams for their only child were falling apart at their feet. Where had they gone so hopelessly wrong with their little boy?!

Ross and Rosa had different methods of persuading their son to see sense (in their eyes). Ross took the “You’re going to university whether you like it or not, even if I have to drag you there kicking and screaming!” route. As one might expect, it was not very effective. His distressed mother tried a softer approach; she actually understood where Curtis was coming from because she herself had been in his shoes at one point.

She sat him down and explained to him that majoring in Psychology and becoming a university professor was not her first choice for her life. It was always her dream to be a novelist but her parents refused to allow her to study literature. They said it was a waste of time. Ultimately, her parents convinced her to give up on her ridiculous notions of being a writer and pursue a more steady, respectable career in education.

At the time, she was heartbroken and angry with her parents but now, she’s glad she listened to them. She has a good job, financial stability, a nice house, and a beautiful family, none of which was guaranteed if she had chased her dream.

But his mother’s personal story didn’t make Curtis agree with his mother. He just felt sorry for her and told her as much. She of all people should be on his side if she understood how he was feeling like she claimed! It only made him more hurt and angry that someone who had every reason to empathize with him was still trying to make him miserable, instead.

The conflict over Curtis’ future has gotten so unbearable that Ross is considering sending his son to a boot camp to straighten him out. Rosa’s been talking about sending him to live with her parents for a while. If they could make her see sense, surely they could do the same for their grandson.

Meanwhile, unbeknownst to his parents, Curtis has been saving up money from his Plopsy shop to run away. No one’s going to be in charge of his destiny but him! If he has to sneak away from the life he knows to claim that freedom, then so be it.

But maybe it’s not too late to prevent all of this? Is there some kind of compromise that can be made so everyone is happy? Or will someone have to give in to demands? And which one will it be?
