Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass Extended Trailer Released

Just a short time ago, the Pokémon Company released a brand-new extended trailer for the upcoming Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass.

Coming in at just over seven minutes, there certainly is plenty packed into the trailer. Most notably the Bubbly Basin aspect of the expansion pass.

What is the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass?

The Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass is a three-part wave of paid additional content for the hugely popular Nintendo Switch 2 game, Pokémon Pokopia. Today's trailer takes a closer look at some of the upcoming content with part one, Bubble Basin, launching in early August.

Alongside the paid additional content, there will be periodic free game updates for all players. The next update being next week.

Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Extended Trailer

Breaking down each of the upcoming three parts of the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass is this brand new trailer. While the core focus is on part one of the paid downloadable content, we get a sneak peek at parts two and three, which will be coming at a later date.

Now that you've seen the trailer, let's break down what we spotted in the trailer.

In the opening moments of the trailer we get a quick recap as to what Pokémon Pokopia is all about and a look at what our transformed Ditto has been getting up to.

A Whole New World Awaits

Soon enough we find ourselves back at Bleak Beach, surrounded by Pokémon friends. Having fun and playing in the water. However, unlike the water Pokémon, Ditto can't stay underwater that long.

This Pokémon is Manaphy!

With Manaphy's help, Ditto is able to learn a new move called 'Dive', which will allow them to join in and swim underwater.

Now that Ditto has this new move, a whole new world awaits under the sea!

Free Software Update

Starting from 5th August 2026, all players will receive a free software update for Pokémon Pokopia. This will allow players to dive beneath the sea and explore new areas that previously were inaccesible. This includes the previously mentioned 'Dive' move taught by Manaphy.

It's important to note that players will need to have completed the 'Raise The Environment Level' request in Bleak Beach in order to be taught this new move. Additionally, you will need to know both 'Jump' and 'Surf'.

Bubbly Basin Overview

Alongside next week's free software update, part one of the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass also releases. This allows players to unlock a new underwater town called Bubbly Basin.

The town has remained untouched for some time, and at first you'll also meet Popplio. This is one of many new Pokémon friends that we'll be meeting through the new area.

Much like players have done already in Pokémon Pokopia, you'll be bringing the town back to life, creating habitats and working together with many of the new Pokémon you'll be meeting in this new paid content.

With the help of some of these new Pokémon, you'll also be able to grow a variety of crops underwater too!

There is also a new block type being added in the Bubbly Basin additional content. This being the buoyant block. This will allow players to create even more unique builds that can float in the water.

However, you might notice that despite being underwater, it still gets a little bit dark. That's where Chinchou comes in. They can help light up the town with their electric moves.

Of course, Bubbly Basin brings a new wave of Pokémon requests, ocean themed objects that can only be found in this new town and surprises! Soon enough you'll see the town thriving and full of life once again.

While Ditto has been busy making a splash, something else lays a little further beneath the ocean waiting to be explored. In the dark pitch black, use glowing coral to help light the way and discover even more surprises.

Bubbly Basin Release Date

Part one of the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass, Bubbly Basin, releases on the 5th August 2026. Likewise with the free software update, players will need to have completed the 'Raise The Environment Level' request in Bleak Beach. Additionally, you will need to have learnt the new 'Dive' move as well.

Sneak Peek: Expansion Pass Part Two

Towards the end of the extended trailer, we also got our first sneak peek at the second part of the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass.

Part two will introduce accessories to the game, and you'll find that Ditto and other Pokémon will be able to wear them. Together players will be able to enjoy fashion with Pokémon and create stylish looks!

Currently there is no confirmed date as to when Part Two will release other than late 2026. It's also noted that a new town will not be added at this stage.

Pokémon Pokopia in 2027

As there are three parts to this paid additional content, there is currently a final instalment confirmed for release next year. While there are not many details at the moment, we do know that a new town will be added.

Where do I purchase the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass?

Simply head to the Nintendo eShop on your Nintendo Switch 2 and search for Pokémon Pokopia. You'll see the option to purchase the expansion pass from there.

The Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass will cost £29.99 or your regional equivalent.

Players who purchase the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass can also redeem a 'Dynamic Ditto Print' recipe.

Also, those who purchase the expansion pass can also receive a purchase bonus of Pokémetal ingots too!

Pokémon Pokopia and the Expansion Pass are both available to purchase now on Nintendo Switch 2.
