The Sims 4 Marketplace Official Survey: Share Your Opinion With EA

The official survey for The Sims 4 Marketplace has been published!

The new official survey for The Sims 4 Marketplace has been published by Electronic Arts today.

This survey lets you take a vote on monetisation clarity of the Marketplace platform. With questions asking you to define your customer experience and were the items on par with the purchase pages.

There isn’t much that lets you vote on the future of The Marketplace. This survey more seems like it’s aimed at learning to improve general monetisation flows and user experience. No questions asking if they should expand that percentage cut for Makers, that’s for sure!

We’ve collected all the questions that you can take during this official survey to better prepare for your user input. Check them out:

I answered the survey, but I feel like I wasted my time. After all, they never listen to us, right?

Kiarasbutthole

The fact the marketplace exists at all is proof of that.

Jessica

I answered, and told them exactly how I feel about Moola. I think I made my point. I doubt they will listen as too many seems to be happy to spend their money on a fake currency.

Well, here goes my politically incorrect opinion. I’m prepared to receive negative responses and comments, but I’m going to say exactly what I think.

Yes, we’re angry because paying for custom content is something new… or is it? Aren’t we already paying for creator kits? What’s the difference? Those of you who download mods and custom content don’t have to download anything from the marketplace. It might feel like you’re being forced to, but you’re not. I see it as simple: if you don’t want it, don’t buy it. I don’t understand the outrage.

On the other hand… there are many players, myself included, who don’t want to download custom content or mods, or anything that could break the game (beyond how broken it already is) unless it’s been verified by TS4’s official team. If we’re willing to pay €4 or $5 for a stuff kit, I don’t see why we wouldn’t pay a few simoleons for custom content that has also been verified by the official team. I think it’s a huge opportunity for creators (it’s about time they get properly paid for their work—I know creators who spend HOURS and HOURS making objects and clothing), and it doesn’t really change much for players. If instead of making marketplace items, these were official kits in collaboration with them, would there still be an outrage? It makes zero sense.

On top of that, I don’t know if the team and the players are fully aware of the opportunity this opens up. According to the latest information, it seems there won’t be any more expansions, game packs, etc. for The Sims 4, at least for a while or maybe forever, since the team is working on another game. However, if this creator marketplace expanded not just to objects and CAS items but also to new gameplay features, I think we could be looking at a way to keep evolving a game that the official team may no longer actively develop beyond the free updates they promised to fix bugs. What if all those amazing mods made by talented creators were sold in the marketplace for a few simoleons, with official verification from The Sims 4 team—so they wouldn’t break every time there’s an update or an official event? Isn’t that exactly what happens when we buy an expansion?

For example: if they sold an “official mod” with cars, motorbikes, garages, and racing in the marketplace, people would probably be outraged. But if that exact same content were released as an official Sims 4 expansion, everyone would be happy. Don’t you think both options are equally valid?

On top of that, creators KNOW what players want. I’m not sure the official Sims 4 team does—and they certainly don’t seem to listen much. That’s why I think this could be an opportunity to keep the game alive, instead of letting it die like The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 before it. Personally, I’ve bought every expansion and pack (except the terrible SpongeBob one), and I wouldn’t like to throw all that money away just because they decide to move on to The Sims 5 when there’s still so much more to explore in TS4.

Anyway, that’s my take. I know you’ll say it’s all just greed from the team, but I’m not sure when we started thinking this was a charity.

S1moleonica

simoleons meaning moola, sorry for the confusion!

Paying for mods isn’t the issue – we’ve already had creator kits doing that successfully, and many of them were actually really good. The issue is the overpriced inconsistent content while also dropping this during a global economic downturn on top of the recent Saudi buyout. It’s poorly timed and poorly implemented. Not a great combination.

Enjoy your $4 blemish patches though. 🙂

Kong

My problem isn’t that they want us to pay money, it’s how the system works that bothers me. Many names on there are people who use cc creation as means of income… and EA is taking a huge slice of that pie. Not only that, the way Moola works, it’s designed to FOMO you out of your money. You need x to get a pack, but it costs y so instead of paying exactly y to get that… you now have to buy 2 times the x to get the y and have a little left over so the next time you want z, you have to get another 2 x to get it. It’s a horrible cyclical model that takes advantage of people.

CrispySims

I mean that’s on the CC creators that signed up to be Makers. They knew entirely what they were getting themselves into and how much of cut they would get compared to EA and they still decided to proceed with being a Maker so I don’t feel bad for the CC creators who stuck with the Maker Program or those that are joining. They obviously think they will get better exposure through the Marketplace since it’s basically free promo for them and millions of players will see their names.

“Overall, how satisfied are you with your Marketplace experience today?”
I thought the marketplace was successful? It’s been less than a month. We’re getting a survey already?

Kong

I think the marketplace SHOULD have been a place to buy the paid sponsored kits and then a FREE access site for cc creators to share their cc in a safe environment where they could accept donations for their work like patreon/boosty and all the other website that need a subscription but not so slimy. This could have been a good way for EA to really support mod content creators, not for EA to take money from people who use creation cc as a means of income. I don’t feel like EA deserve as large a cut as they’re getting. Moola is a gacha scam designed to nickel and dime you out of your money and I won’t buy anything on there.

I wanted it to be a place where people could be safe to buy things, where they won’t get hit by malicious ads and to not have to subscribe or give a monthly fee to be on other cc download sites. A place where consolers and no-cc people could finally find cool stuff… but no, it’s not any of that. Its tailor made to scam you out of your money without you knowing it. I called this months ago, and I hate that this is the money model for every damn game out there.

Kong

Also, everything on there looks fine, but it feels like all the CC is really neutered by the constraints of the program… most of it’s pretty boring (sorry makers, I just don’t feel like it’s your best work…)

Tracey

I will not be buying anything , you seen the quality then the amount you get for your money. I live in Australia the exchange rate you want me to pay $$$$ for half of what I would get in a creators kit, no thanks. I will just support certain creators on patreon that I support and lots of beautiful free cc on Tumblr. #pass #pass #pass

lex

absolutely tore them a new one. dont think they will listens tho.
