The new Age Ranges have changed drastically for Normal and Long Age Spans!

After the High School Years Update on July 26th, people started to notice that their sims had more days for each age group. After some reports to EA Help, SimGuruNick weighed in and confirmed that the age durations had been changed.

The new Expansion Pack, High School Years, only comes with one High School lot and no other lots can be created. This disappointed many simmers. With that being the case, finding the best high school is even more important! So we found five of our favorite High Schools created by the community.

You can find all of these creations on the Gallery by looking up their creator’s ID and then looking up the build name.

Copperdale High School

This building was “originally built in 1910” and retains many of its original architectural features. The interior design has a cohesive design brought together with the tile details. This school has specific details and any room you could possibly need for your Sims.

There is a computer lab, workshop/fabrication class, art class, music class, and acting class. There is a cafeteria. Tucked in the corner, Copperdale High School has its own school news show. And for the faculty? There’s a teacher’s lounge. And when your Sim gets hurt, there’s a nurse’s office.

Behind the high school, there is a gymnasium with bleachers, locker rooms, a basketball court, and a coach’s office.

Three things you’ll notice when pulling up to PlumbobKingdom’s build are the yellow school buses, three prominent flags, and the striking architecture. No detail was left to the imagination, there’s even a row of bicycles parked outside.

Inside the build, the important areas to help a young Sim study are present from a library to classrooms. There are individual areas for art, science, and music. There’s even a workout area and a principal’s office. Everything you would need for your teen Sim’s perfect school!

This modern high school has an interesting feature with a walkway underneath the middle portion of the School. It has a focus on indoor-outdoor learning with an outdoor eating area with a food cart and vending machines.

The building has spaces for art and music. There’s a library for Sims to study in. And in the back of the school, there’s a basketball court with bleachers with also a place to practice for cheer!

A beautiful stone building with a tall clock tower, this version of Copperdale High School resembles the boarding schools we’ve all seen on television. The inside of the building has a calming tan theme.

Inside the library, there is a library where Sims can both hang out and use a computer or read a book. Art, woodworking, and pumpkin carving stations are available for Sims to learn on and there is science equipment for students to use. And for the fitness-loving Sims, there is a gym with a basketball court and locker rooms.

The front entry garden is what first catches a visitor’s eye at LindseyLou10’s Copperdale High School! It has two floors and contrasting white and red brick and a clock tower stands tall above the entryway. The inside of the building has a beautiful blue, white, and red theme. There is an indoor-outdoor space where a tree is growing.

For students, there are plenty of areas to learn skills. There is an art and music area in addition to the computer lab and lounge areas. For students interested in fitness, there is a workout room. Finally, when everyone wants to get together for a meal, there’s a cafeteria and a patio behind the school.

Making Round Sofa Corners in The Sims 4

No round sofas ’round the corner? Try this with no mods or CC!

With the round walls update, I immediately thought that the curved sofa pieces from Dream Home Decorator would fit like a glove in the smallest round room. Alas, here’s what it looks like:

Well, the gap is not that big and noticeable, but something about it doesn’t feel so snug. So let’s fix it and cozy up that corner!

Make sure you have bb.moveobjects on before starting.

First, you need to make a room below a round corner. Brighten it up with a ceiling light.

Grab the modular sofa from Dream Home Decorator and select the curved corner piece. You can access it by clicking the gear symbol on the side which will open a sub-menu.

Place it on the floor below. Size it up one time by pressing ‘]’ and elevate it by pressing Ctrl+9 around 25 times until it reaches the top. The curved sofa should be seen on the floor above except for its wooden legs.

Notice that the lighting in the room below applies to the sofa. So as much as possible, try to match it with the lighting on the floor you’re working on.

Next, we’ll add seating on the sofa since it’s technically just decorative on this floor. Use any chair without a backrest, preferably this one from Dream Home Decorator since its texture matches well with the curved sofa. Place three chairs with the Alt key and rotate them with ‘<‘ or ‘>’ or by holding Alt if needed.

Don’t worry if their swatches don’t match! Try to think of it as a pillow or cushion on the sofa. For example, these blue swatches from different packs look like these:

The Sims 4 High School Years comes with a new world called Copperdale. Copperdale is a full-sized residential world with three neighbourhoods. It’s home to the one and only high school that can be placed in the game so all of your teen Sims will be traveling to Copperdale to attend school no matter what world they live in.

Copperdale has a lot of lore and hidden secrets laced throughout the town and some of its residents have backstories intertwined with the history of the town.

Once renowned for its booming mining industry, the town of Copperdale, quaint and historic, lay nestled on the banks of Lake LaSuli. Founder Jasper Prescott had foraged this land for its treasured crystals, hoping Copperdale would one day blossom into a prosperous community for families and travelers alike. And though the mine carts reached an eternal halt, the townspeople continued to flourish. With academics and adventures abound, Copperdale is now home to many families seeking a small-town life with big-city dreams for themselves and their teens. Together they’ve unearthed a gem far more precious than before – beloved high school memories.

Named after Copperdale’s founder, Jasper Prescott, this town square is a quaint hub for all afterschool hangouts. For the fashion-forward teens, Eloise Hiddlestix’s well-known ThrifTea shop is the spot to grab a bubble tea and explore the latest trends. Lakeview Library is perfect for academically minded teens to squeeze in a cram sesh or find a study buddy. Representing Copperdale’s historical legacy, this square is central to all its residents. Some say they’ve seen the ghost of Jasper lurking near his old dwelling, the Boomsbluff Mystery House.

Sometimes, ThrifTea holds impromptu fashion shows for Sims to show off their style in person.

There is a small attic space with a guitar in it where the musically-gifted Molly most likely spends a lot of time.

Apart from the lots, other spots of interest in this neighbourhood include a gazebo with a bench for romantic date nights, a seaside boardwalk for jogging or romantic strolls, a set of monkey bars in the park area, several scenic spots to sit and socialize or eat, and the infamous Boomsbluff Mystery House where a ghostly apparition of Jasper Prescott can briefly be seen on occasion during nighttime hours.

Plumbite Cove

Settled on Lake LaSuli sits Plumbite Cove, a once-popular location for its mining of rare gems. After the mines shut down, the town turned this picturesque outlook into a waterfront fairground. With thrills, chills, and a breathtaking view, Plumbite Pier is the ideal spot for all ages to make some memories. Travel to Totter Park to see the majestic Teeter Rock before heading to the pier to snag a selfie with the Frank the Flying Womp Womp tribute. Whether settling down or just stopping by, Plumbite Cove is a must-see Copperdale gem.

Totter Park is a very basic park lot. There isn’t much to do here. It’s mostly just a forested area with a set of monkeybars, a couple picnic tables, a chess board, and public washrooms. BridgeCreek Drive

Hillside Haven

This is an empty lot for players to build whatever they like here. It’s in quite a beautiful location right next to a creek with a footbridge over it, a nearby fishing spot, and it’s close to the carnival grounds.

The Carnival

The carnival is not on a lot but there is enough to do here that it warrants its own section. Sims can visit this area of the pier and go on the different attractions. They can ride the ferris wheel, go on the cuddle carts, and enter the haunted house attraction. All the attractions can be enjoyed alone or with another Sim as both friendly and romantic activities. Sims can WooHoo (or Mess Around for teens) on the rides but if they get caught, they might get banned from going back for several days. The attractions themselves are rabbitholes; the Sims go in, disappear, and come back out.

There is a carnival stand in the area that sells ice cream cones, a bubble tea vendor, and if Seasons is installed, there will be a third vendor in this area near the seating selling seasonal food and drinks. There is also a photo booth where Sims can have their pictures taken by themselves or with friends/romantic interests. You’ll be able to take the photo home with you afterwards and display it on the wall as a keepsake.

This spot also has two swimmable locations, one on each side of the pier on either side of the carnival.

Rockridge Heights

Home to Copperdale High, Rockridge Heights is the town’s standard-bearer for academia across generations. It’s a beloved school ground for quintessential teen moments and college preparation. With classrooms full of learning, and an Auditorium full of Prom possibilities, Rockridge Heights is the perfect environment for every teen to discover who and what they want to be.

Copperdale High is a special lot type that cannot be used in any other location in the game. This is the only high school lot players can have across all worlds but teens from every world can still attend school in Copperdale. It’s similar to the special active career lots from Get To Work; however, this lot is not hidden and Sims can visit the school anytime during and after class hours. This gives players more freedom to tell their own stories outside of the 8am-3pm structured class hours. The lot can be bulldozed and rebuilt from the ground up but not during active class hours.

Auditorium

Like the high school, the auditorium is a special lot type that cannot be placed anywhere else but it is not hidden and can be visited by Sims anytime. It’s a dynamic lot; meaning it will change its décor based on what event is currently running there. Players who own the Eco Lifestyle expansion pack and have built on Community Centre lots will be familiar with the different lot states.

The Auditorium has four different states; the standard auditorium (this is the default when no events are happening), the formal dance, the high school graduation, and the career day states. The auditorium will switch to the different states during these events and then return to the default state when the event ends.

Other areas of interest in this neighbourhood outside the lots include a roadside convenience store across the street from the high school where students can get snacks from the vending machines out front if they don’t want to eat in the cafeteria, the football field behind the high school where certain after-school activity events take place, and a miniature outdoor amphitheatre near the auditorium with some seating. There’s also a parking lot with customized parking spaces next to the school, which isn’t actually a routable location but we thought it was cute enough to mention.

Sims 4 Studio received an important update!

The Sims 4’s recent Update has caused issues with Custom Content Beds. Because of the new Bed Interactions, many beds were left unfunctionable until Creators got to manually update them.

Well, if you’re either a creator who’s tired of updating or a player who’s tired of searching for updates – you no longer have to worry!

Sims4Studio, a great program companion for The Sims 4 has just received another important update. If you’re an avid user of this program (or just starting out) this is a great solution for fixing your CC Beds!

3.1.6.2 (Content Management Update)

+ Added a batch fix “Objects > Fix Bed Slots (High School Years EP) to fix the issue with placing CC beds and ability to have pillow fights/homework on them.
+ Batch fixes will no longer fail to start if there is a corrupt save game file in the save folder.

And Cheats that let you implement them!

Want a specific Want or Fear? Or do you want to remove them? Here is a list of the Wants and Fears in The Sims 4.

Wants

As most of us have probably noticed, Whims have now become “Wants and Fears“. The previous Whims were converted to Wants and new Wants were added.

In order to add Wants by cheat, you need to install TwistedMexi’s AllCheats mod. This mod enables cheats that are not available in the game without it. To add a Want, you will need to use the prefix whims.give_whim and to remove a Want, you will need to use whims.clear_whim before the Want cheat.

Good News for Early Access Sims Creators!

EA spokeperson confirmed that Early Access for The Sims 4 CC can stay!

A few days ago EA has published a new modding policy for The Sims 4.

The New Policy focused on two things:

  • CC Monetization Allowance and Rules
  • Branding Prohibiton

The Monetization Update for CC Creators mentioned that players are not allowed to monetize directly through offers, but exclusively through donations. Any content that players release should be released for free, “regardless of whether they donate.”.

Naturally, this official statement from EA made many believe that Early Access Content is affected too.

Some of your favorite CC Creators who respect the Guidelines like to release Early Access CC / Mods Content to their followers / supporters. Specifically through Patreon, which is very popular in this community.

However, the statement from EA made plenty of fair CC Creators rework their strategies and make a decision.

In fact, EA’s entire statement has made a huge scramble in the entire community for this game. Only for EA to confirm that Early Access is allowed.

The following statement was shared on Gamespot:

“The Sims team has just updated the The Sims 4 Mods FAQ to clarify that all users must be able to access Mods in full for free,” an EA representative told GameSpot. “However creators may still run a reasonable early-access period for their content.”

This statement was shared after several EA Help Customer Service employees confirmed that Early Access is not allowed, and that they have checked.

EA also updated the official policy, which now states the following:

THE SIMS POLICY ON MODS

We know that for many of you, Mods are an important part of your game experience.  For that reason, we support a framework in The Sims 4 that makes it easier for you to install and use Mods.

The Sims team doesn’t pre-screen, endorse or specifically support any particular Mod. You should use Mods with caution and understand there may be risk.

We have a long tradition of supporting creativity in our community.  We do not object to Mod developers continuing to share their amazing content, subject to the following:

  1. Do not promote your Mods in a way that suggests they are endorsed by or affiliated with The Sims, Maxis, or Electronic Arts. This means you cannot use any game logos or trademarks, including versions of the plumbob, or key art designs to promote your Mods. You may state that your Mods are for The Sims 4 and/or for a specific game expansion pack.
  2. Mods must be non-commercial and distributed free-of-charge. Mods cannot be sold, licensed, or rented for a fee, nor can Mods contain features that would support monetary transactions of any type.

    Note, The Sims recognizes that creating Mods takes time and resources. To recoup these development costs, Mod developers may:
    • Offer an early access incentive for a reasonable amount of time. After a reasonable early access period, all users must be able to access the Mods in full for free regardless of whether they donate.
    • Run passive advertisements and requests for donations so long as they are limited to the Mod website or distribution site, and do not appear within the Mod itself.

We reserve the right to address any inappropriate Mods, including Mods that infringe the intellectual property or privacy rights of others, contain obscene, objectionable, or harmful content, jeopardize the integrity of The Sims 4 gameplay, or otherwise violate the EA User Agreement.

Although I’m very happy about the decision for Early Access content to remain for fair creators who follow the rules, I’m still worried. How did EA not know their audience well enough and that many Creators have turned CC and Modding into their full time Careers?

This all has caused such a tumble in the community, mostly for nothing.

We didn’t even get to celebrate paywalling not being a thing anymore. LOL

The Fixing Update

Console Patch Availability

The update has just now been released on Xbox and Playstation!

The Sims Team has released a brand new update for The Sims 4 on PC and Mac.

To download the latest version of The Sims 4, simply open your Origin program and if the game doesn’t update automatically, right click on The Sims 4 and select ”Update”. If you play on Xbox and Playstation, you should Check the Game for Updates in case Automatic Updates are off.

In case you have Mods or Custom Content, the game will automatically disable them for you after first launching The Sims 4 after the update. To re-enable all your Mods and Custom Content, select the Settings option in the Menu and select Settings. Under the ”Other” section you’ll find the ”Enable Custom Content and Mods” option. Check it and restart your game in order for it to take effect!

  • All available Sims now can be selected for travel even if they are currently not on the current lot.

Creator makes Curved Windows that we should’ve gotten in The Sims 4

This Custom Content Curved Window Set is just what was missing in the Base Game. Literally!

We wrote about the first arrival of CCCWs. Or Custom Content Curved Windows for short.

The Custom Content Creators got to work and have started working on some beautiful things. For example, the Creator @TudTuds has done a huge work of converting all of The Sims 4 Base Game Windows.

Making sure that the Curve of the Windows fits just right, the Creator has spent around 40 hours adjusting and making sure the Base Game CC Set is as good as other Base Game Windows.

About it

(not a tutorial, but I’m planning to release one soon)

I challenged myself to create a curved window even before the new EP was released. I was about to give up when SimGuruGeorge commented on one of my posts. I realized I was on the right track, but I should have been typing larger numbers into a parameter. So I barely slept that night but I managed to complete my challenge. The next day woke up wanting to convert all BG game windows but this was a far from realistic goal.

These conversions are very time-demanding. Each curved window item works like a counter, cabinet, or sectional and has 8 windows in it. To convert the BG items I couldn’t just clone a template and create it like I create a new cc window because some BG window swatches have different maps to create reflection and little details and this is all coded in numbers and out of order on the material edit tab of Sims4studio.
The least difficult way to create was to manually clone and enter a lot of data in each individual window.

I spent over 40 hours in 3 days but managed to convert 7 Base game windows to curved walls.

Know Issues

Even on Maxis’s windows, I noticed some bugs so I didn’t try to fix them because I feel that they will release a lot of adjustments soon.

  • When you reload the game it’ll appear some wall parts over the glass and it will affect the shadows too;
  • If you combine two small curved walls to create a cylinder, one of the windows won’t cutout the wall;
  • Some thin weird lines at the wall may appear depending of your graphic card;

The Items

  • This post has 7 converted base game windows;
  • They will appear as a different item in the catalog but will function in exactly the same way as HSY;
  • I created all 6 new meshes from each 7 windows based on the maxis meshes, but I had to change a bit the tallest ones:

– Booth Glacemaster 1700C and Glacemaster 1700C – Combo, had a not-too-realistic price on the game. It was listed for 30$ in the catalog so I increased it to 300$;

– I changed the height of the The Glacemaster 1700C – Combo mid mullions. It’s now aligned with the mid and low wall versions;

EA Help and Contact Support have confirmed the new EA Policy on The Sims Mods. Players have reached out to EA to ask valid questions in regards to the very confusing and awfully worded Policy.

EA Help replied with a confirmation: Modders and Creators are no longer allowed to release their content through “Early Access”.

This marketing scheme and pull is absolutely irresponsible and damaging towards the entire Mods and CC Community. Who have literally made The Sims 4 to what it is today.

NEW ARTICLE UPDATE: It seems like Early Access for Creators is no longer allowed. Creators will have to immediately provide free access to Custom Content. It looks like there are no exceptions to this situation.

EA has published a new Page on EA Help with a new set of Policies, Rules and Guidelines for creating and publishing Mods and CC for The Sims 4.

EA POLICY ON THE SIMS MODS

We know that, for many of you, Mods are an important part of your game experience.  For that reason, we support a framework in The Sims 4 that makes it easier for you to install and use Mods.

The Sims team doesn’t pre-screen, endorse or specifically support any particular Mod. You should use Mods with caution and understand there may be risk.

We have a long tradition of supporting creativity in our community.  We do not object to Mod developers continuing to share their amazing content, subject to the following:

  1. Do not promote your Mods in a way that suggests they are endorsed by or affiliated with The Sims, Maxis, or Electronic Arts. This means you cannot use any game logos or trademarks, including versions of the plumbob, or key art designs to promote your Mods. You may state that your Mods are for The Sims 4 and/or for a specific game expansion pack.
  2. Mods must be non-commercial and distributed free-of-charge. Mods cannot be sold, licensed, or rented for a fee, nor can Mods contain features that would support monetary transactions of any type. However, Maxis recognizes that creating Mods takes time and resources. Accordingly, Mod developers may recoup their development costs via passive advertisements and donations as long as:
    • Passive advertisements and requests for donations must be limited to the Mod website or distribution site, and not appear within the Mod itself.
    • All users must be able to access the Mods in full for free regardless of whether they donate.

We reserve the right to address any inappropriate Mods, including Mods that infringe the intellectual property or privacy rights of others, contain obscene, objectionable, or harmful content, jeopardize the integrity of The Sims 4 gameplay, or otherwise violate the EA User Agreement.

There are some valid concerns listed here which would prevent perma-paywalling. A practice done by few community members where said creators never make their content available to the public, but rather lock their CC / Mods permanently behind a paywall. This caused some major issues in the community – one of them which was doxxing.

If you are a Creator who is publishing through Patreon, it’s getting obvious that you will **no longer** be able to provide Early Access to your creators.

Passive advertisements and requests for donations must be limited to the Mod website or distribution site, and not appear within the Mod itself.

All users must be able to access the Mods in full for free regardless of whether they donate.

Previously it was thought that there would be no repercussions for Early Access. However, it was explained by some community members that there’s a big exception in the bottom part, which says that Creators *must* provide their Mods for free. Whether people support them on Patreon (or other platforms) or not.

In the case of the simming community, this is most likely referred to Patreon. Which is a popular platform for CC Creators and Modders to publish their content and earn revenue.

The new policy also suggests that players no longer can use official Assets for The Sims 4 to promote their content. From The Sims 4 Logo and Renders to even the official Plumbob.

If you plan to publish your Mod, the options of using The Sims 4’s official brand material is no longer an option. You have to make an asset on your own, or else you might be reported by others as suggested by the new “How to Report Mods” section.

It seems that the question that bothered many within the community regarding Permanent Paywall is now answered. Unfortunately, EA has added repercussions for Custom Content Creators and Modders who have been following the rules for years. Leaving the huge part of the community wondering what the future of their own creations is.

EA’s own platform EA AHQ is also prepopulated with demands, questions and frustration over a video game that’s losing all of its main functionality.

There’s also a huge surge in Broken Mods and CC, with many Creators working tirelessly to still update their Mods. On top of that all – EA releases this new Policy just a few days ago.

In case you didn’t know – the Modding Community at this very point are Fixing The Sims 4.

As a player, I am happy to see Permanent Paywall being a thing of the past. But as a Graphic Designer, I feel sorry that Creators have to update all of their assets.

Mysterious Last Exceptions? Can’t Pillow Fight on CC Beds?

We’ve got bad news. There’s another casualty of the High School Years Patch and Expansion Pack–CC beds. This does not include toddler beds and recolors, only the child through elder beds broke. While we wait for Sims 4 Studio to hopefully come out with a batch fix to fix the beds, here’s what you need to know.

CC beds broke due to the addition of the new bed animations for the High School Years Expansion Pack. If you don’t have the Expansion Pack, you won’t be getting Last Exceptions, but the beds are still out of date and broken.

Questions?

Q: Why is the game sending last exceptions even when the bed isn’t in use?
This is due to the Sim trying to autonomously use the bed with the new animations.

Q: Why did the beds break?
The beds broke due to EA adding to the inner structure of beds that is needed for Sims to do the new animations.

Q: Is there any way to fix beds at this time?
Yes! Lucky for us, Peacemaker released a set of instructions for how to fix CC beds.

How to Fix Custom Content Beds

From: Peacemaker’s Tumblr

1. Download new version of S4S (better safe then sorry)

2. Open the cheat console within S4S by pressing crtl_shift+C

3. In the popup, type “object-preview” (best to full screen this popup, as we need all the space to see warehouse tab)

4. search for bed

5. Click on a double bed and wait for it to load in 6. Go to Warehouse tab and find the Rig and Slot resources (usually one after the other).

7. Click on the rig resource (it will be highlighted blue), and on the far right bottom click the “export” button.

8. Save the file somewhere easy to find and with a good name (like bedding-double-rig)

9. Click on the Slot resource next and repeat as above.

10. If you have single bedding as well, find one in the far left panel and load in. Repeat exporting the rig and slot information (making sure to label single and double bed resources clearly when exporting so you don’t mix them up).

11. Close the object-preview window

12. Open a copy of your broken bedding. Best to do on a copy, because if you mess you can just delete and make another copy.

13. Go to warehouse tab and click on the rig resource.

14. On the bottom right, click Import and navigate to where you saved your exported resources. Make sure you are importing the rig resource and not slot resource, otherwise it will throw and error.

15. Import the double bed rig.

16. Click on the Slot resource and import the new slot resource.

17. Save

18. Test in game, when placing it shouldn’t disappear, and you should have option for pillow fight. And of course, no exemption error should be thrown.
