Lyndsay Pearson, General Manager for The Sims has teased during the latest Maxis Monthly Livestream that there’s going to be a special video uploaded to The Sims’ official YouTube channel this Thursday.
Now, SimGuruFrost has shared a special teaser with The Sims 4’s brand new branding. He stated that the video is coming out on July 18th at 6AM Pacific Time and that it’s related to their current ongoing #PlayWithLife campaign.
We’ll keep you posted as soon as the video goes live!

During yesterday’s Maxis Monthly Livestream The Sims Team has presented a brand new look and design language for The Sims 4. Although they’ve stated that a part of the reason why they’re switching up the brand design is to attract new players to the franchise, Lyndsay Pearson, General Manager for The Sims has also shared that this is a good signal that The Sims 4 is still alive and well and has years of content coming out.
The new look represents our commitment to the game, to The Sims, to you – our passionate players and that this game isn’t going anywhere. We love it and we’re excited about it and even approaching to our 5th anniversary we wanted to give it a chance to kind of have some new life and new energy.
I think it’s a good signal that we have a lot left to do with The Sims 4 and that The Sims is alive, well and healthy and more people are playing than ever and we get this great opportunity to give it a new paint job.
SimGuruFrost went on Twitter to also elaborate on the sudden new change of The Sims 4’s brand, saying that this is a great way to mark The Sims 4’s fifth year milestone. He also mentioned that this is a way to show The Sims Team’s commitment to supporting The Sims 4 for many more years!

Although we can’t know for sure what’s coming down the line in the next few years it’s nice to know that The Sims 4 is still strong and has a lot more in store for us.
Lyndsay Pearson, General Manager for The Sims has stated that we’ll be getting all of the new items shown in The Sims 4’s brand new Box Art render in the upcoming update for The Sims 4! The items and hairstyles that are brand new are expected to show up with July 16th’s Update.
You’ll notice that the Sims that we’ve put on the box actually have a few new looks. These styles will be coming into your Base Game in an update so you will get access to all of these Sims in Create A Sim and The Gallery and you’ll get to know their stories!
The Sims Team has announced that they’ll be releasing two new updates for The Sims 4 next week, more specifically one update for PC / Mac and one update for Xbox One and PS4 players!
Both updates will be coming out on July 16th, 2019 at 8AM Pacific Time. What’s coming in these updates? Let’s break down of everything we know so far:
Today’s Maxis Monthly was full of news for the world of The Sims 4. However, one important piece of information that I’m sure all the builders out there will appreciate is the fact that The Sims Team will be unlocking more than a thousand objects in Build Mode!
So, what does that really mean? Well, you’re probably familiar with the fact that The Sims Team usually likes to lock away certain decor and environmental items exclusively to specific worlds. Well, not anymore!
You’ll soon be able to unlock a full catalog of world items including cars, fountains, sculptures and many more by using the bb.showliveeditobjects cheat. The team has also unlocked ALL of the objects from previous packs as well, meaning that you’ll be able to place down environmental items from, for example, Brindleton Bay on any lot you want!
As you can see in the image below all of the environmental objects will have a special globe icon next to each item on the top right corner.
The update is scheduled for release on July 16th, 2019! We’ll keep you posted on all the latest about the update on our website.
You can also check out the new environmental items catalog in action down below:
In today’s Maxis Monthly Livestream The Sims Team has revealed that the upcoming update for The Sims 4 will be bringing a “Story Quiz”.
As explained by SimGuruGraham, the Story Quiz allows you to give your Sims some premade characteristics straight from Create A Sim! After opening up Create A Sim you’ll be getting a prompt screen asking if you’d like to create your Sim’s story in CAS. You have an option to agree and start the quiz or refuse the quiz and create a Sim without any premade characteristics.
After agreeing you’ll first get a chance to choose from which life stage you want to begin. Right now there’s only an option to choose between Young Adult, Adult and Elder. Then you’ll be taken through 10 simple random questions asking about everyday situations that usually occur in The Sims 4’s live mode. The questions you’ll get might revolve around simple things such as what your Sim wanted to do when they were younger or might be very specific.
Each pack installed that brings new gameplay will give you a chance to get a specific personality question tied into that pack. For example, the question down below saying “What do I most want to do on a trip to Selvadorada?” will influence your Sim by giving them a certain level of the Selvadoradian Culture Skill when starting the game.
Thgere are 10 questions in total and you can keep track of the number of questions you’ve answered in the bar down below. You also have the ability to randomize and switch up to a new question if you’d like to attach a different type of gameplay element / characteristic to your Sim.
Completing the Story Quiz will give you a Story overview on the left side of Create A Sim. Your Sim might start off already at a set career level or they might be completely unemployed depending on your choices. They’ll also gain certain skills depending on the questions you’ve decided to answer as well as a Starting Fund when starting your game.
For example, this Sim has a high starting fund!
If you choose to do a Story Quiz your Sim will also be assigned with a specific Aspiration and traits that you won’t be able to change back. All other changes such as the appearance of your Sim and what are they wearing will be customizable!

During today’s Maxis Monthly Livestream The Sims Team has announced that they’ll be giving The Sims 4’s brand a complete revamp!
Starting early next week you’ll be able to see The Sims 4 in a whole new way with a whole new plumbob, new box arts, new renders and a new color palette surrounding the game!
The Plumbob
The Plumbob now has a glossier look with more saturated colors and more shine. The new plumbob will be replacing the old one in all places except in-game where the plumbob in Live Mode will remain the same.
The Box Arts
All of The Sims 4 box arts will be getting a whole new look, starting with The Sims 4 Base Game Box Art which features new Sims, a new plumbob and a new color palette!
Screenshot 37
Screenshot 39
The Base Game isn’t the only Sims 4 game that’s getting a revamp – ALL of the current packs we have (and the future ones coming as well) will be getting a whole new look. Expansion Packs will no longer be marked to their specific colors (for example red for Cats & Dogs) but rather under the same color tone. All of the box arts will have their pack icon featured on the top right and will focus more on the renders now. Some of the box arts will even have an entirely different render featured – for example The Sims 4 Toddler Stuff Pack shown down below.
The Sims 4 logo will be featured in all of the pack box arts on the bottom left corner.
Main Menu
The Sims 4’s Main Menu now has a completely different look! There’s now a lot more room for Expansion Packs, Game Packs, Stuff Packs and Free Packs in the “Your Collection” section.
The Sims 4’s updated logo is now also added on the top right side of the screen. The Sims 4’s brand new signature render is displayed in the middle. Just like now you’ll be able to switch between different game renders!
Those who don’t have a complete collection of Sims 4 Packs will now also be able to build their own pack bundles using the “Build Your Bundle” feature straight from the Main Menu. This is exclusive to PC / Mac and won’t be transferred over to consoles while all of the other changes will be applied to Console players.
Loading Screen
The Loading Screen now features a new background and the new plumbob!
It seems The Sims Team still has plenty of more plans for The Sims 4. SimGuruFrost elaborated on Twitter why the sudden change of the look, saying that one of the main reasons why they’ve pulled this off was because of The Sims 4’s ongoing success. According to Frost, this is also a way to show The Sims Team’s commitment to support The Sims 4 for many more years.

Tune it tomorrow for the “Maxis Monthly” for exciting news coming up for Sims 4! https://t.co/m0onmThwyR
SimGuruLyndsay was quick to response and say that even though the exciting news won’t be as fun as surprising Simmers with new content (which won’t happen in this stream), it’s also much more fun than watching paint dry. That’s one way to tell people to keep their expectations moderate!
Less exciting than new surprise content (it’s not that) but more exciting than watching paint dry (it’s not that either). Approximately.

So, what exciting news will The Sims Team have in store for us? Stay tuned on Sims Community to be the first one to find out!
UPDATE: @LyonDolphin tweeted us with The Sims 4’s new plumbob in better resolution!
The Sims 4 has had the same brand language and look ever since the full reveal of the game which happened in June 2014. However, it seems that 5 years of the same old identity is getting stale in the eyes of EA and Maxis!
@SimsHub has reported an interesting survey email which they’ve received today from EA. The survey email talks about player experience and satisfaction with certain EA video games. Still, that’s not what’s interesting about it. What really drew attention to their eyes is the fresh new plumbob along The Sims 4’s logo, featuring a new render that seems to showcase a new hairstyle and outfit on the far left along with other Sims that seem to be wearing either new stuff or stuff from previous packs – we can’t really tell as the image is very low-res.
SimGuruGeorge was quick to response and clear the rumors that this render is in any way related to the upcoming Moschino Stuff Pack for The Sims 4:
They are messing with you, this is not our art for the Moschino pack.
Interestingly, @LyonDolhpin has reported a few days ago that their The Sims 4 Game Icon has completely changed on their computer. The game icon shows an identical plumbob that was leaked in the image above:
Este Icono me tiene desconcertado!!! 🙃😅@SimGuruRusskii sera que me podrías decir el por que de esto?? o al menos si no es nada malo? 🤷🏻♂️ pic.twitter.com/iMigJ0S6Sv
It’s definitely not an accident that the same fresh new plumbob leaks out twice in a matter of few days. Also, considering that the render above is not related to Moschino Stuff Pack in any way, it could mean that any new content shown inside of the render could be showcased somewhere else and who knows, maybe soon even in the Base Game!
The Sims 4 Island Living isn’t the only Expansion Pack that will see the light of day in 2019!
You all know how anything revolving voice actors and voice editing is usually a sign of things to come for The Sims 4? It’s been proven many times and helped us speculate and predict Island Living, Vampires Game Pack, Seasons Expansion Pack, Get Famous Expansion Pack and StrangerVille Game Pack. Now, the predictions come first from a job opening on Maxis.com that is looking for a Voice Editor!
The Voice Editor job opening is looking for someone who would help mix and deliver the final quality audio and sounds for The Sims 4’s next Expansion Pack. Yup – you’ve read that correctly. Not a Game Pack, not a Stuff Pack, but an Expansion Pack.
The job opening has a term between July 8th and October 11th. If you think that the listing is referring to The Sims 4 Realm Of Magic Game Pack which is scheduled to release by the end of September this year, that wouldn’t be possible as there would still be some work to do on voice and audio editing by October.
Check out what the job listing has to say:
Location: Redwood Shores, CA
Term: July 8th – October 11th
The Maxis Studio of Electronic Arts is seeking a Voice Editor to join the Audio team and help ship an upcoming expansion pack for The Sims 4.
The ideal candidate should have experience delivering final quality audio either from a brief or starting with placeholder sounds in software. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work within technical limitations to deliver quality audio are essential. It’s also important that the candidate understands the role of audio in video games; and can create final content to best effect the player experience.
Skills:
Must have voice editing experience and have expertise in relevant software packages, such as Logic Audio, Sound Forge, and ProTools.
Experience with all aspects of voice direction for game production, with proficiencies in voice direction of top professional actors and game implementation pipelines.Proficiency with standard audio tools (DAW, Editing, plugins, etc) and studio tools (microphone, compressors, etc).
Proficiency with PC and Mac platforms, and comfort with custom tools.
Experience with Game Production and Design
A committed ear for the user experience of Voice Performance in detail
An open mind, willing to challenge conventional wisdom and find creative solutions to our unique problems
An eye towards innovating audio tech and tools for voice
You can shift quickly and flexibly from multiple projects and roles
You are someone who can thrive and grow in a dynamic environment and bring enthusiasm to those around you
Considering that voice recording and editing is one of the last steps in developing a new Sims 4 pack, it’s almost certain that The Sims 4 will be getting its 8th Expansion Pack this year!
The trend of 2 Expansion Packs per year was present in 2015, stopped in 2016 and 2017 and now seems to finally be back with the year 2018 and now 2019!
A while back, while casually tearing-down the newest trailer of Sims 4 Island Living and trying to guess what we were getting (which included mermaids) on TheEnglishSimmer’s discord channel, a username by the name of “Tazzykiki” said: “Imagine the chaos if we had hybrids. Imagine an alien-vampire-mermaid-ghost-sim who turned into a PlantSim.” An idea was born: Why doesn’t Sims 4 have hybrid life states?
Both Sims 2 and Sims 3 had hybrid life states. Sims 2 had the perfect balance and was an important hidden feature to a point where if you turned a Servo into a Vampire (don’t ask how that works), it would have a unique appearance designed specifically for that hybrid. Sims 3 was as far as I know bit more unpredictable, with mostly UI issues, but otherwise fully functional, and we had NRaas come to save us with one of his mods fixing hybrid life states, which in all honestly just meant it was fully possible to do so.
On paper, the first thing that popped to my mind to the why is that it’s just an engine limitation. That it’s just not in the engine’s nature to function properly. I expected that the game would just glitch to the max, break the game entirely, get errors, and eventually crash.
The first important thing of note is to understand how Maxis seemed to have designed life states in Sims 4; the game runs entirely on the moodlet and trait system to influence the sims behaviours. Things like a walk-bys “random mood” is nothing but a powerful random moodlet, and things like a pet’s “quirks” are traits. The difference here is only that these are usually hidden. Heck, even most of the Reward Store options are just traits and many traits assign hidden moodlets.
The unsuspecting test subjects in an experiment I like to call “Hybrids”
Occults are no different. They are in fact, traits. While these don’t show up on the traits panel, they can be seen in the Club’s Trait Requirements menu, and show up as Alien, Mermaid and Vampire traits. I didn’t bother testing Ghosts and PlantSims because Ghosts are a natural hybrid (I mean, I doubt you couldn’t have an Alien-Ghost or a Mermaid-Ghost), and PlantSim isn’t a complex enough life state (not to mention it’s temporary).
My general idea for this experiment was to push the game’s limits, in hopes of breaking it, but to my surprise… nothing really did. These hybrids seem to work, and this infuriated me a little bit, which I will explain in the conclusion.
The basic interactions, worked fine, an alien could absorb another sim’s emotional state. A Mermaid could call on a weather change, and a Vampire could move about as a bat, run fast, and I’m positive Vampire weaknesses worked fine (I didn’t play long enough to see their effects).
The interaction menu displaying the sub-menus for Mermaids, Aliens and Vampires perfectly.
However, I fully expected these to work, since after all, they are just basic interactions and aren’t anything complex. It’s their unique characteristics that I was curious to see how they would work. Mermaid’s surprised me the most, as the tail would show up just as expected. Aliens also seemed to have worked, since once I equipped the Alien occult trait, the game would automatically assume we were in our disguise. When it came to Mermaid/Alien is where things got interesting, but only in the bath. If we are to remove our disguise and get in the bath-tub as an alien well… the legs just don’t work like they used to.
That’s not a tail my dear Watson.
But I was pleasantly surprised to see how this affected a mermaid’s ability to swim in the ocean. The Alien simply turns into a regular Sim, and swims like a regular Sim, simply omitting the mermaid tail. This was a pleasant surprise, since I expected the mermaid to just break with having human legs but on a mermaid rig Vampires did however break when turning into their dark forms for the most part. As far as I recall, I managed to get an Alien looking like a Vampire (with the dark form features/make-up), and for the most part, the game did get confused as to what was what. From the point of the User Interface, Mermaids break Vampire Panel, and that’s about it. It’s surprising to see that the Vampire Needs Panel has a perfectly working “hydration” motive. Aliens don’t have any changes in needs. The only issue I encountered is realizing that a Mermaid/Vampire loses access to the Vampire Power and Rank section of the Need Panel. But that was the extent of it. You could still access it, and it still functioned properly. Which, again, was to my pleasant surprise since I genuinely expected the game to just not even open the panel.
I didn’t even encounter any major issues in the Create A Sim, although a sim did magically disappear from the screen at one point but seemed to return even if I edited his name once I left CAS. I remember in my first test run with Alien/Vampire that the forms eventually got confused when I tried editing, but honestly, as far as I can tell, the game just keeps generating new forms if it seems to lose access to one (now I obviously don’t know if the others are lost or purged or if they linger around a sim).
The UI displays “Hydration” meter but neither the Vampire Power Button or the Vampire Rank, making it impossible to adopt weaknesses or Vampire Powers.
But honestly? The Hybrids seem to work? They’re not even THAT glitchy enough to not warrant some work. In my opinion, the game is fully capable of handling hybrids without major issues. Forms is the only thing that needs to be fixed and that’s pretty much it.
After all we have so much customization options that it would be up to the player to determine how a sim looks, and even so, you could survive on four unique appearances, a Dark Form, a Mermaid, a Normal Sim, and an Alien Form. You have easy access to Vampire details as a Mermaid already anyway, and I’m sure you could mix and match various effects between forms. I am geniunely disappointed that hybrids are not a thing in The Sims 4. The game didn’t outright break. None of the issues I encountered felt like they were game-breaking and could be easily fixed by the team.
Mermaid mixed with PlantSim and a Ghost
Quite frankly I’m infuriated because this feels like a massive missed opportunity, and another step-back from the features we were used to in previous games. I understand that this is “a new game” and that the rules are different, but lately it’s become quite apparent that numerous corners are being cut with Sims 4 and I simply can’t understand why such capable team of developers keep making these decisions. The engine is not a limit here. I get that Sims is in general a complex game, but this feature is more than capable of existing.
I also feel if the team managed to get unisex gender and clothing options, there’s nothing stopping them from literally unlocking the Alien features across the board, including on the normal Sim form, they could merely disable it being used in “randomizing” Sims at townie creation, but why not let Simmers use Alien eyes on a normal Sim? Or a Mermaid? Or a Vampire? I also think that one thing that infuriates me is that it’s not just a simple oversight on the developer’s side, but that they outright said that “hybrids are not possible”. Or that they are difficult, or something along those lines.
I hope you found this article interesting, because it was quite fun experimenting and I do hope that we eventually see a change and see hybrids at some point down the line in the game’s future, among other things.
After a successful experiment, the boys relax by a bonfire.
