It’s okay, your suit jacket’s only a tad wrinkled in all the right places to look attractive and who doesn’t love a casually undone bottom jacket button? Don’t forget your white rose boutonniere to pull the whole look together.

Modder Makes Viewing The Sims 4 Neighbourhood Stories Easier!

Better Neighbourhood Story notifications!

Neighbourhood Stories was a widely well-received addition to The Sims 4 a few game updates ago. Players were quick to praise the inclusion of highly requested story progression features but also quick to point out where the new feature could be polished and improved.

Of course, modders like TwistedMexi were already on the case! One annoyance about Neighbourhood Stories is that checking the Neighbourhood Stories is tedious. You have to click on a mailbox to receive a notification about something that’s happened recently in your worlds but if you have multiple events to check, you have to click the mailbox again and again until there are no more stories left. I for one did not enjoy clicking the mailbox 20+ times every time I wanted to catch up on the latest town happenings.

TwistedMexi has released a mod that cleans up this clunky process. Now when you click on the mailbox to check the Neighbourhood Stories, all stories pop up at once in their own stories notification panel so they don’t clutter up your normal notifications. Just be sure you’re really finished reading through all the stories before you close the panel; the Neighbourhood Stories won’t be saved for you to go back and read again later.

You can see the mod in action in TwistedMexi’s walkthrough video below:

The mod is in early access but will be public on April 12th, 2022! You can get it from TwistedMexi’s Patreon by clicking the download button below.

Let’s Decorate a Candy Bar with The Sims 4 Sweet Treats CC Pack!

Sippin’ gin and juice at the candy bar…

Not gonna lie, I’m still obsessed with the Sims 4 Sweet Treats CC pack by LittleDica (with contributions from many other talented Simmers). Sims Community did a detailed overview of the CC pack where we showed off detailed close-ups of every item in the pack in all swatches, plus catalogue thumbnails but that just wasn’t enough for me.

I had to build something with this pack. It’s fun, it’s nostalgic, and yes, very tacky but in the absolute best way. In other words, I’m in love. This CC pack comes with some really great shell builds for us to decorate how we want and I couldn’t wait to start decorating with this pack. I picked the Minty Fresh Manor to redecorate and turned it into a candy bar filled with fun for the whole family! It turned out hideously fabulous if I do say so myself. Let’s check it out, shall we?

Let’s Decorate a Candy Bar with The Sims 4 Sweet Treats CC Pack!
Of course, I didn’t touch the amazing exterior much at all. I just replaced some windows with arches to access the patios and filled out the fenced in area with swing sets and cotton candy décor.

Let’s Decorate a Candy Bar with The Sims 4 Sweet Treats CC Pack!
The inside was completely empty except for a few walls breaking up the space so I completely gutted it and opened it up more. Since the theme of this build is peppermints, I stuck with the red and white theme on the inside using bright and colourful mint-themed furnishings, red and white ice cream cone sculptures, red and white tile flooring and of course, lounge seating around the juke box that looks good enough to eat.

The focal point of the space is of course, the bar, with lots of delicious candy on display for guests to enjoy. No really, the candy jars are all functional! Sims can grab and eat candy from them! Sims can sit at the bar and enjoy sweet treats, good drinks, and watch whatever they fancy on the huge neon cotton candy cloud TV behind the bar.

Or if TV’s not your thing, pull up a chair at one of the peppermint tables and enjoy some live entertainment played on a (maybe) edible guitar and microphone.

The kids will have a blast climbing the ladder to the second floor where all the arcade and console games are. Tipsy adults trying to get up to the second floor to use the bathroom? Not so much but don’t worry loved ones; it’s all part of the journey. No, I will not stop making Katy Perry references, by the way.

Let’s Decorate a Candy Bar with The Sims 4 Sweet Treats CC Pack!

I hope you had as much fun touring The Candy Bar as I had decorating it! Thank you again to all the amazing Simmers who came together to recreate my personal favourite stuff pack from The Sims 3!

Click the download buttons below to get my furnished version of Minty Fresh Manor (renamed The Candy Bar) and to download The Sims 4 Sweet Treats CC pack, which goes public on April 24th!

Functional Garage Doors Mod for The Sims 4

Walkthrough of the Landgraab Self Storage Garage Doors Mod!

Ravasheen has done it again and created something to make our Simming lives easier. Have you ever wished the debug base game garage door or the City Living decorative garage door was actually a functional door? Have you ever wanted to use them for storage? Well you’re in luck because Ravasheen has done both!

Introducing the Landgraab Self Storage Garage Doors! Ravasheen’s taken the garage door from the base game and City Living and turned them into functional objects, complete with their own custom animation and sound effects! They can also store items for you.

Getting Started

Of course, you will have to install them, first. You can get them from Ravasheen’s website. The current version is in early access for patrons only but will be released to the public on April 9th, 2022. If you need help with installing mods, check out our article Getting Started With Mods and CC.

Once it’s installed correctly, all you have to do is load up the game and go into Build/Buy. The garage doors will be located under the Doors category. You can also search “rvsn” in the search bar to bring up all of Ravasheen’s content you have installed in your game.

Please note that only the 7 solid colour swatches are base game compatible. The other swatches require City Living. If you don’t own City Living, you will only see the solid-colour version of the doors.

Catalogue and Swatch Overview

The doors show up in the catalogue as two separate entries; one is base game compatible. The other requires City Living. You can safely install the mod if you only own the base game. You just won’t see the City Living version in your catalogue.

Here are both door varieties in all swatches. There are 7 base game swatches in solid colours and 20 City Living swatches with various designs.

How to use the Garage Doors

Functional Garage Doors Mod for The Sims 4
Like all of Ravasheen’s creations, the garage doors are very easy to use. Simply place a garage door along a wall the same way you would with any other door in the game and have a Sim walk through it! The door will automatically open with its own sound effect when Sims walk through it and close a few seconds after a Sim has passed through it. The doors can also be locked just like all the other doors in the game and you can set them as the front door if you like.

But the garage doors are more than just doors. They are also storage units! What is the point of storage doors that can’t store anything, right? Using the doors for storage is as easy as using any other storage chest in the game. Just click on the door to open up its inventory and drag anything you like from your own inventory into the door’s inventory. It’s a very convenient way to use the doors as a storage unit without actually taking up any space. Oh, and the best part? The doors do not have a shared inventory so you can organise your stuff by storing them in separate doors.

Functional Garage Doors Mod for The Sims 4
And in spite of the funny catalogue description, you can in fact live in a storage unit with these doors. Just build a storage container with everything your Sim needs to survive and use the garage door as the front door! You can’t stop us from living our lives, Landgraab Corporation!

Our Thoughts

I really love these garage doors. I’m always painstakingly scrolling through the debug menu to find those base game garage doors to create realistic garages for my builds just for the sake of decoration. I love that these doors have been made functional because it opens up more uses for them. I’m also a fan of more storage because I have a habit of keeping every single little thing my Sim accumulates in their inventory but I hate having it all lying around or cluttering up my inventory.

We definitely recommend these!

The Sims 4 Scenario Playthrough: No Skills, No Problem

Kidnap Mr. Sandy Claws? I wanna do it!

In case you missed it, The Sims 4 added a bunch of new scenarios to the game a little while ago. So many, in fact, that we’re still in the process of playing through them all! Today’s scenario, “No Skills, No Problem,” is about a Sim who can’t seem to build very much skill in anything, making it difficult to earn a living.

Here’s how our No Skills, No Problem scenario went!

Getting Started

The Sims 4 Scenario Playthrough: No Skills, No Problem
You’ll notice the scenarios have gotten a bit of a revamp. Along with lots more new scenarios, there are now difficulty ratings on each scenario to give you an idea of the time and effort it will take players to complete them. The No Skills, No Problem scenario is listed as an Intermediate scenario.

This is a permanent scenario so there’s no need to rush to start it before a certain date. It will be available in the game forever so start it whenever you like!

The scenario description states that your Sim wants to earn a lot of money but there’s one problem; they don’t have any skills and have a lot of trouble building any skills. They will need to find a way to earn $400,000 in spite of their unfortunate lack of skills. The household requirements are simple; you just need one Young Adult or older Sim. When you start the scenario, your Sim’s household funds will be reduced to $0 so choose your starter home wisely.

The Easy Way Out

In previous money making scenarios, we showed you how to get rich fairly easily without much work involved. Mimi Landgraab from our Super Rich Supervillain scenario amassed a large fortune rather quickly after getting her hands on a money tree seed. Today, we’re going to show you an even faster way to complete these kinds of scenarios without resorting to money cheats.

The Sims 4 Scenario Playthrough: No Skills, No Problem
Meet Clyde. Clyde wants to be rich but Clyde isn’t particularly good at anything. He’s also lazy and the idea of completing an aspiration in order to earn the satisfaction points for a money tree seed is just far too much effort for him. He has a plan to amass a large fortune in just a few days.

How, you might ask? Well, it involves kidnapping Father Winter. No, we’re not kidding.

Laying the Trap

We started in Winter with 7 day seasons so we only had a few days to wait for Father Winter to show up. You might think Clyde would busy himself raising some chickens and planting some crops since we moved him into Henford-on-Bagley but no. Clyde plans to do absolutely nothing for three days. Why should he do anything? He’s going to be rich in a few days so why not kick back and relax?

In fact, we issued no commands to Clyde during this three day period and just watched what he did. He mostly sat around watching TV and eating sandwiches until we sold the TV unit to buy a fireplace for Father Winter to use. Then he switched to reading half a book, setting it down somewhere random, grabbing another book and doing the same thing before he cried himself to sleep every night from loneliness.

Yeah. That’s a mood, Clyde. We feel that, buddy.

Operation Kidnap Father Winter

We should note that even though we purchased a fireplace for Father Winter, you don’t absolutely need a fireplace in your home for Father Winter to pay a visit on Winterfest evening. He will spawn somewhere in the neighbourhood and just walk over but a fireplace is still handy. Instead of trying to locate where he is in the neighbourhood, he will spawn inside your home next to the fireplace so it’s easier and faster to find him.

The Sims 4 Scenario Playthrough: No Skills, No Problem
Wake up, Clyde! It’s Winterfest morning! Get out of bed and start preparing! Not for Winterfest; Clyde’s too poor to have a tree and he has no friends to exchange presents with but that won’t matter tonight when Father Winter shows up! Clyde will have enough money to buy as many gifts for himself as he wants. Who needs friends when you have a big stack of simoleons, right?

You might be wondering… why are we kidnapping Father Winter? Isn’t the goal of the scenario to make $400,000? Couldn’t we achieve that by marrying rich Sims and then kicking them out? Well, yes, but that would take a lot of time because even the wealthiest Sims in the game only have about $50,000 in household funds and around $100,000 if you sell their house and all their belongings, too. Clyde would need to romance, marry, and then divorce multiple Sims. He’s too lazy for that.

But Father Winter? Well, a lot of players might not be aware of this but Father Winter has $500,000 in household funds. He is easily the wealthiest NPC in the game and he is the only Sim in his household so everything he owns, including all his money, comes with him when you move him in with you. This makes him a prime target for Sims like Clyde, who like money but don’t like hard work.

The Sims 4 Scenario Playthrough: No Skills, No Problem
When 8pm comes around on Winterfest, Father Winter appears next to the fireplace right on schedule! Now’s our chance! We have to act fast because Father Winter typically leaves at around midnight. We don’t have a lot of time to spend chatting him up so we’re going to take another shortcut. After Clyde introduces himself, he whips out his cell phone and starts snapping pics of Jolly Ol’ Saint Nick, who provided us with some highly amusing poses, we must admit.

After 2 or 3 snapshots, Father Winter was magically good friends with Clyde! Yeah this makes absolutely no sense but we love taking advantage of this weird loophole. All that was left was to ask him to join the household. Okay, okay, we said we were going to kidnap Father Winter, not politely ask him to move in with us but we really don’t want to be on the naughty list next year, mkay?

The Sims 4 Scenario Playthrough: No Skills, No Problem
Anyway, Father Winter happily agreed and lo and behold, the jolly old guy had a whopping $500,000 in household funds that were now our household funds. The game did warn us that moving Father Winter in might cancel the scenario but luckily for us, it did not! Clyde completed the scenario in 4 days without having to learn a single skill… except how to add a cute filter to a cell phone pic, we guess.

The Sims 4 Scenario Playthrough: No Skills, No Problem
Our Thoughts

We enjoyed this scenario. It was hilarious trying to complete it in the fastest, laziest way possible but if you were interested in putting in some hard work, there are a few ways to make money that don’t necessarily require skill. We’d suggest raising animals. You can breed and sell cats or dogs for profit. You can also raise cows, chickens, and llamas and sell their byproducts. You don’t need high skills to take good care of your animals and start getting high quality byproducts from them to sell.

Still, we had fun taking the easy way out and exploring some of the more ridiculous ways to complete this scenario.

Let’s Renovate a Wedding Chapel in The Sims 4!

Giving both the interior and exterior of this chapel the look it deserves!

Now that we’re finally satisfied that My Wedding Stories has been fixed, we’ve been busy exploring the pack for the second time but really, it feels like the first time. Considering we couldn’t really experience much of it when the game pack first launched.

I’ve wanted to renovate my Ever After Chapel for the longest time. I originally built this lot on console with limited packs way back before we had things like platforms and I just knew this place deserved to be revisited with all of the new content we have now. I’m so happy I can finally renovate this place using My Wedding Stories and have players actually be able to enjoy it with functional gameplay.

Before we get into what’s changed, let’s take a quick look at what the Ever After Chapel looked like before.

It looks… cute, I guess but it could really use some updating with newer content, don’t you think? Let’s fancy the place up a little!

Let’s Renovate a Wedding Chapel in The Sims 4!
I wanted to focus mostly on the interior but that doesn’t mean the exterior can’t use a few tweaks. I replaced the wood siding with white brick and replaced the fountain in the back with the one from My Wedding Stories. I also replaced some of the chairs and lights with My Wedding Stories chairs and lights. To give the back area a bit of whimsy, I put a sheer tent with faerie lights over each table. Some other changes include a new “bell” in the bell tower, new doors and windows, and some new fencing around the side where guests go downstairs to the reception hall.

Let’s Renovate a Wedding Chapel in The Sims 4!
Inside is where I made some major changes. Almost everything’s been swapped out for My Wedding Stories content; the arch, the chapel pews, the flowers, the curtains, lights, you name it. I updated the walls with both base game and Paranormal Stuff wall coverings. The floors were given an update, too. I also raised the arch area on a platform. After all, the couple getting married should be the stars of the show!

Downstairs, the reception area also saw some significant changes. There is still a kitchen for those who prefer to hire a caterer but there is also a buffet table and drink fountain if you’ve lost all faith in caterers to be useful in any way, shape, or form. I hear you. The stage and head table have both been raised onto platforms for that grand look and the piano’s been replaced with the gorgeous My Wedding Stories piano. In front of the stage, there is now a proper dance floor! And a nicer stereo in case you’re not into the idea of a live band.

All the tables and chairs have been swapped out as well as the centrepieces. The bar’s also been replaced and the bar back replaced with a more elegant one. There is champagne on ice both at the bar and the head table for toasts. All around the reception hall, existing curtains have been replaced with more elegant gold and white ones. Banners also frame both the head table and stage.

I had an amazing time updating one of my favourite wedding lots for you guys and I hope you love the new look as much as I do. You can search for Ever After Chapel in the Gallery under my ID SnarkyWitch, or just click the download button below to add it to your library right now. It has no CC and of course, it is a proper Wedding Venue lot type now.

It’s gonna be May!

The Sims 4’s last quarter has just passed! In case you missed out, the previous Roadmap for The Sims 4 was called Simthing to Celebrate, including two Kit releases and a Game Pack release.

The Roadmap brought three paid releases, including Carnaval Streetwear Kit, My Wedding Stories Game Pack and Decor to the Max Kit. There were also plenty of Free Sims Deliveries, as well as Content Updates and Fixes for The Sims 4 Base Game.

The previous Roadmap lasted from January until the end of March 2022. This left many wondering when is the next Roadmap being released considering this one was just wrapped up.

The Sims Team has responded on Twitter to a tweet, teasing that we should be expecting a new Roadmap for The Sims 4 starting May!

We’re hoping the next Roadmap for The Sims 4 is filled with surprises and will make sure to keep you updated when the time is right!

Everything included in the Katy Perry Sweet Treats CC Pack for The Sims 4

Greetings loved ones, let’s take a journey…

Earlier, we reported that players were working on a revival of the much loved/hated Katy Perry Sweet Treats stuff pack, originally released ten years ago for The Sims 3. LittleDica and many other talented creators and Katy Perry fans came together to lovingly recreate this iconic, limited-edition stuff pack in The Sims 4.

We had the honour of exploring the early access of this huge CC collection that not only recreates the items from The Sims 3’s stuff pack but expands on the original Build/Buy catalogue with all new items all themed around Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream era! We were amazed by these objects both old and new. Every item has been carefully retextured to match perfectly with The Sims 4’s art style and the quality is just stunning.

We’ve compiled all the contents of this CC pack for you below! Check out the catalogue overview and in-game close ups of each object (all swatches included!)

The Katy Perry Sweet Treats CC Pack is currently in early access but will be made public on April 24th!

Household

And of course what would a Katy Perry CC pack be without Katy the Lady herself? Since this CC pack does not contain any CAS pieces, Katy is CC-free!

Modder brings back the drama to The Sims 4 My Wedding Stories

Now you can play through the drama as shown in the Game Pack’s official trailer!

The release of The Sims 4 My Wedding Stories went through a rocky launch, to say the least.

Although 87.5% of the Game Pack has been fixed, there is still some residue code remaining withing the game files that hint at the pack being released too early. First there was a discovery that Pets were intended to be your Ring Bearers and Flower Pals, however that was eventually not included in the final release.

Modder brings back the drama to The Sims 4 My Wedding Stories

MissyHissySims has now started uncovering more information and remaining code of the features that were shown in the reveal trailer for the pack. Specifically getting left at the altar and the lost ability to Call off the Wedding – something that was already available with regular weddings in The Sims 4.

Check out what they’ve shared:

I’ve been doing a little digging into the ‘Call Off Wedding’ interaction.

The interaction IS still in the game. It shows up if you simply choose to get married at the arch, WITHOUT the big wedding event. When that happens, there’s moodlets, sentiments etc.

However, the interaction doesn’t show up during an actual wedding ceremony event. I have managed to enable it for these events; however right now, the moodlets and sentiments don’t show up.

It also looks like the Slap interaction that is supposed to come after the Call Off Wedding isn’t enabled for this situation either. Could explain why the moodlets and sentiments never showed up in my tests on the edited version. By cloning both interactions, enabling them for the new Wedding Events, I’ve managed to make them work AND get the new moodlets and sentiments. I have a couple of things to test but if this works, I should hopefully be able to release this.

Oh, and I’m looking at changing the animation slightly. Did you know that the Slap interaction that follows a Call Off Wedding situation actually only uses the Yell At animation, NOT the actual slap one?

AUTONOMY: I can set it for sims with certain traits to have a chance of autonomously calling off the wedding. Right now, I’m selecting Non-Committal, Evil and Mean but also the Romance Sims, if you have my Personality Mod.

The results? The “Call Off Wedding” Mod!

This Mod release includes everything shared above. Sims can use the “Call Off Wedding” interaction to call off the wedding and stir the pot.

Sims who have the Non-Commital, Evil and Mean Traits may also autonomously decide to call off the wedding. However, this requires the modder’s Personality Mod first!

What Does This Mod Do?

  • Call Off Wedding now appears during Wedding Ceremonies.
  • Sims who have just been left at the alter will now slap the other Sim. Previously this was just a Yell At animation.
  • There is now a possibility for Sims with the Non-Committal, Mean and Evil traits to autonomously call off the wedding. Additionally, if you have The Personality Mod installed, Romance Sims may autonomously call it off.

Technical Details

You Will Need:

  • XML Injector ~ Don’t worry; the XML Injector doesn’t add anything to your game, it just allows this mod to work as intended. If you use The Personality Mod, you will already have this installed. This mod allows the interactions to be injected without needing a separate script file.

Additional Information:

  • Naturally, this mod requires My Wedding Stories. There are no strings needed for the mod as I used Maxis strings, so this should appear in all supported languages!

Ready to bring back the drama to your Sims’ weddings? The mod is public and available for download from the creator’s Patreon page below. Simply paste the .package file to Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods folder and ensure Mods / CC are enabled in your game options!

The Sims 4: Babs and Ollie’s Wedding Story

Babs and Ollie L’Amour finally got their Wedding Story told!

To celebrate My Wedding Stories finally getting fixed, we thought it would be fun to follow a newly engaged couple from proposal to their wedding day and tell their wedding story. Long-time players of The Sims 4 will remember Babs L’Amour and Ollie Purdue from the game’s early promotional trailers. Their love story has been featured in several of The Sims 4’s original promotional material, like this gameplay trailer:

We decided to tell our own Babs and Ollie love story. Or, more precisely, Babs and Ollie’s Wedding Story.

What an Honour!

The Sims 4: Babs and Ollie’s Wedding Story
With The Sims 4 My Wedding Stories, engagements are no longer a simple matter! There’s so much planning to take care of! Who will be the Sims of Honour? The Flower Pal? The Ring Bearer? Do we want to have an Officiant at our ceremony? What wedding cake should we buy? We’ll need to taste test it first. Oh, and don’t forget the perfect cake topper for it! Come to think of it, have we decided on flowers, yet? Or a venue? Oh, and we’ll need to go wedding dress shopping, of course! And we can’t forget about all the pre-wedding events, either, like the engagement dinner, rehearsal dinner, and bach party!

Newly engaged couple, Babs and Ollie, are feeling a little overwhelmed by how much there is to do before the big day. They’ve decided to invite Ollie’s sister, Cassidy, to stay with them in Tartosa to help plan their special day. They’ve been living in Tartosa for a few months now and have made plenty of friends in town, including the Laurents, the Markovics, and the Sotos. Cassidy suggests they start by asking some of these friends to take part in their wedding.

The Sims 4: Babs and Ollie’s Wedding Story
Of course, Babs is the first to insist that Cassidy be her Sim of Honour and Cassidy is very touched by the gesture. That’s one role filled. Ollie decides to take a stroll downtown where Dom is usually painting. He thinks she’d be a perfect Officiant. Luckily, Cam’s there, too so Ollie extends an invite to the wedding to her. Dom is honoured to officiate Ollie’s wedding and Cam appreciates the invite! While he’s there, he spots little Jace Laurent and his friend, Tomi Markovic, at the beach! Perfect! Just the young people Ollie wanted to see! They’re both very excited to be in Ollie’s wedding as the Ring Bearer and Flower Pal. Ollie tells Tomi to pass along the message to her dad that Ollie wants him to be his Sim of Honour.

The Sims 4: Babs and Ollie’s Wedding Story
Phew! With all the roles out of the way, it’s time for the real planning to begin!

Dresses, Flowers, and Cake, Oh My!

The Sims 4: Babs and Ollie’s Wedding Story
Babs and Ollie set aside a shopping day with their respective Sims of Honour. The plan is for the girls to pick out Babs’ wedding bouquet while the boys shop for tuxes, then the girls will hit up the boutique after the boys leave to try on wedding dresses. After, they’ll say goodbye to Mateo and Cassidy and meet up at the patisserie to taste a selection of cakes. It’s a busy day but it promises to be fun!

Babs has her heart set on a yellow theme for her wedding. She wants yellow flowers, yellow cake, gold jewelry to accent her gown, and the dress code for the guests will be yellow. Cassidy helps her pick out the perfect pale yellow bouquet to compliment the rest of the wedding’s colour theme.

Ollie was given strict instructions by his fiancée that whatever tux he chose, it could not be black and he had to have a yellow boutonniere. This wasn’t a problem for Ollie, who was an artist and an expert at colour matching. He and Mateo picked out a groom outfit they were sure Babs would swoon over, then they cleared out of the boutique to let Babs and Cassidy take over wedding dress arrangements. Babs found her perfect dress quickly because, like the wedding colours, she already knew exactly what she wanted. Nothing less than a princess dress would do for her special day!

The Sims 4: Babs and Ollie’s Wedding Story
Later in the afternoon, Babs and Ollie bid Cassidy and Mateo goodbye and met with each other at the patisserie stand. Babs’ only request? Whatever cake flavours they tried, the cake itself must be yellow! Ollie could pick the flavour, however. She wasn’t picky about that. It’s cake. It all tastes good, right? They spent the rest of the afternoon feeding various samples to each other. There was some back and forth over the final decision but in the end, they agreed on a lovely three-tier gold and white cake with yellow roses. All that was left to do was choose the perfect topper and have it inscribed.

Pre-Wedding Parties

The Sims 4: Babs and Ollie’s Wedding Story
It was a good thing Babs and Ollie were proactive and got a lot of the planning out of the way early because the rest of the summer was a blur of one event after another! It’s funny how it’s customary to throw so many “mini-weddings” before your actual wedding, isn’t it? Oh well. Tradition is tradition so let’s kick off the pre-wedding celebrations with an engagement dinner!

The Sims 4: Babs and Ollie’s Wedding Story
They invite the whole wedding party and a bunch of their other friends in Tartosa. Babs falls in love with the venue for the dinner and insists this is where they need to have their wedding. Everything is YELLOW! Ollie agrees. It’s a nice place and does fit the colour theme! The engagement dinner is a casual but fun affair with lots of food, toasting and drinks.

Babs may have enjoyed the drinks a little too much…

The Sims 4: Babs and Ollie’s Wedding Story
Luckily, she has a couple days to recover before the big rehearsal dinner. The rehearsal dinner is at the same venue since Babs and Ollie both loved it so much. The rehearsal dinner isn’t so much a rehearsal for them as just another excuse to eat good food and party but it’s a fun night all the same! Toasts, speeches, good food, and this time, there was dancing at the end of the night! Don’t dance yourselves out just yet, guys! Tomorrow night is your joint bach party!

Babs and Ollie aren’t into the whole idea of separate bach parties. Although Babs does have her fair share of commitment issues, she doesn’t see this as her last night of freedom as a single girl. Just the last night of this chapter in her life. Tomorrow, she gets to start a brand new one with Ollie! It’s exciting and she wants to celebrate with everyone, including her fiancé. Well, maybe not the kids. Tonight is adult’s night at the lounge. The drinks flow freely and the dance floor is jumping all night. As much as they’d love to party until dawn, they have a wedding tomorrow they don’t want to be hung over for so everyone calls it a night at around midnight.

The Big Day

It’s been a long journey but it’s finally here! Babs and Ollie’s wedding day! Nerves are high but so is excitement as everyone heads to the venue. Nothing could possibly go wrong today, right? Babs and Ollie made sure to plan every detail well in advance. The cake, the guest attire, everyone’s roles in the wedding party. Surely, everything would go exactly to plan, right?

Oh poor Babs and Ollie… Don’t you know weddings never go perfectly no matter how well you plan them?

The Sims 4: Babs and Ollie’s Wedding Story
For one thing, Babs’ dress code requirements must have gotten lost in the mail because nobody, not a single person, wore yellow like she asked. Except for Jace, who wore a yellow t-shirt with a cartoon character on it and shorts. The dress code did say “polished” attire, didn’t it? Not only that but the cake they had selected for the wedding? Nowhere to be found! Had the cake company delivered it to the wrong address?! And where was their Flower Pal, Tomi?! She was nowhere to be found! Apparently, she’d come down with a bad cold the other day and had to stay home according to her parents. So there would be no Flower Pal at this wedding.

Before Babs could have a complete Bridezilla meltdown over her special day going all wrong, Mateo quickly got everyone seated while Cassidy made an emergency trip to a nearby bakery to get a replacement cake that looked similar to what Babs and Ollie had initially picked. Thankfully, the topper they’d had inscribed did not get lost.

The Sims 4: Babs and Ollie’s Wedding Story
Everyone must have felt bad for the tearful bride because they were on their best behaviour and kicked off the ceremony right away. The two Sims of Honour were the first to walk down the aisle arm-in-arm. Sadly, there was no Flower Pal to go ahead of the bride and Babs was on the verge of tears, wondering how on earth the most important day of her life could be ruined like this… until she saw Ollie waiting for her at the altar.

Her special day wasn’t ruined. The most important part was still here and he was waiting for his bride. All of her worries melted away as she glided gracefully down the aisle… er, make that stumbled awkwardly down the aisle because she tripped on her own wedding dress! She caught herself before she fell and gave everyone a sheepish smile. Phew!

The Sims 4: Babs and Ollie’s Wedding Story
After Babs made it to the arch in one piece, Dom gave the most beautiful wedding speech that had everyone wiping away happy tears. She was definitely the right choice to officiate their wedding. Here came the big moment! The “I Dos” and rings! Ring Bearer, if you please…

The Sims 4: Babs and Ollie’s Wedding Story
Babs and Ollie are officially Mr. and Mrs. Purdue and Babs is so overcome with relief that the hard part of the day is over that she sweeps her new husband off her feet with a very passionate spousal kiss! Awwww! They walk back up the aisle together, smiling ear-to-ear while everyone stands up and blows bubbles to celebrate!

Time to Party! Again!

With the ceremony out of the way, let the party begin! Food and drinks are served in the reception hall and the bride and groom can finally relax a little. At least until it’s time to cut the cake! Cassidy must have worked some kind of magic because the cake she came back with was picture-perfect! And delicious, too! Babs and Ollie cut the first slice together and share a bite with each other before everyone else eagerly digs in.

The two Sims of Honour regale everyone with speeches, recalling heartwarming and funny memories they have of the bride and groom. When everyone is thoroughly stuffed from dinner and cake, it’s time to work off some of those calories on the dance floor. Of course, it’s customary for the bride and groom to open the dance floor by sharing their first dance as a married couple. Babs and Ollie impress everyone with some fancy moves.

And we think that’s where we’ll leave Babs and Ollie to enjoy the rest of their night. We hope you enjoyed reading Babs and Ollie’s Wedding Story!

Maxis confirms the future development of The Sims Franchise

Just as we predicted – Maxis’ GM confirms the future of The Sims 4, as well as development on the next generation Sims Game

All the rumors are officially true.

I’ve been reporting on the development of the next generation Sims Game (or as I call it, The Sims 5 until we have an official name) for quite a while now.

It all began in September 2018 when we got a first confirmation that the next generation Sims Game is in development. At the beginning of 2020 we got a confirmation from EA’s CEO, Andrew Wilson, that Maxis is planning a next generation Sims Game. Having both single player and multiplayer in mind. A year later first clues about the development software of the next generation Sims Game surfaced – confirming that The Sims 5 is being prototyped in Unreal Engine. Later on new information started surfacing through the EA Careers website regarding features such as Story and Narrative Modes, Competitive Features, Cross-Platform Functionality and so much more. The last report that we’ve done was at the beginning of 2022, with talks about Cinematic Storytelling.

Maxis started expanding later in 2021 with new studios. The first one that we reported being Maxis Europe, supporting both the development of The Sims 4 and The Sims 5. Just last month Maxis has done a huge rebranding after almost 20 years.

The updated Maxis website also confirmed that Maxis now has several studios, including:

  • Redwood City, California
  • Austin, Texas
  • Kitchener, Ontario
  • Across United States and Europe

Maxis confirms the future development of The Sims Franchise

The rebranding has been done specifically in mind to attract a new generation of future Maxis employees, considering that the studio is growing drastically.

All of this packed together with an official blog post from EA and Maxis just recently released, talking about the future development of The Sims Franchise.

In the official blog post Catharina Mallet, Vice President and General Manager for Maxis and The Sims Franchise has shared exciting insight about the future of Maxis and The Sims.

Catharina has revealed the following in the official post:

  • Maxis will be continuing to create entertaining and unexpected content for The Sims 4 for years to come.
  • …All while developing the future of The Sims Franchise

The confirmation reveals what we’ve been reporting on all along – Maxis is getting big enough to support the development of both The Sims 4 and The Sims 5. Their updated Maxis Careers website proves just that, with tens of different open positions that are both for The Sims 4 and The Sims 5.

Maxis confirms the future development of The Sims Franchise

A message from Catharina Mallet, Vice President and General Manager, Maxis & The Sims Franchise

Last week, I gave a talk at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) called “The Sims: Designing for Inclusivity,” about how the culture and practices we embrace at Maxis (the EA studio behind The SimsTM) contribute to the success and cultural impact of The Sims. It was my first time speaking to the games industry in several years and WOW, it reminded me how invigorating it is to be in such a creative and passionate space.

There’s nothing quite like working in  games: the creative and talented people, the groundbreaking technology, the indies and the big shops, the art and the science. Most of all however, it’s about that moment when a player tells you “I love what you made, and playing it made my day better.” Our players are incredibly passionate about the stories they craft, and we love seeing the impact our games have on their lives, their senses of self, and their communities. This sense of purpose – inspiring everyone to make a better world through creative play – and our commitment to our players leads to a truly unique culture at Maxis.

Maxis confirms the future development of The Sims Franchise

The Sims franchise has been around 22 years, has more than 563 million cross-title installs since 2014, and The Sims 4 was played for 1+ billion hours last year alone. The game has become a platform for self-expression and discovery, and nearly every day we hear stories from our community about how the game has impacted their lives in positive ways. We’re just getting started with all we want to accomplish with this amazing franchise, and we’re looking to grow our team.

Diversity, equity and inclusion have always been important to us at Maxis. We know that our games have the power to impact reality, and shape kinder, more empathetic and inclusive people. We know that diverse perspectives challenge us to think differently and innovate, which inspires our players. And we know that representation matters, and that when players see themselves in our games, they feel empowered. So we work hard to create the diverse and inclusive studio environment that is best suited to give players the choices that reflect and even change their view of the world.

Maxis confirms the future development of The Sims Franchise

As we look towards our future, continuing to create entertaining and unexpected content for The Sims 4 for years to come while also building the future of The Sims franchise, we want to hear from all kinds of voices.  We are committed to being more inclusive of different backgrounds, races, genders, geographies and ways of thinking than ever before. We, of course, want to attract gaming experts, but we also recognize there’s enormous talent potential outside the industry. We need fashion designers, artists, architects, e-commerce specialists, machine learning experts and so much more. We view nontraditional experience as an asset, not a drawback.

Exciting things are coming! Check out our careers page for current listings –  we can’t wait to hear from you!

Maxis is encouraging people from all backgrounds and walks of life to consider applying to become a part of their team.

The latest Career Opportunity was published just a few hours ago titled Multiplayer Gameplay Software Engineer.

This Career Opportunity, among many others for the next generation Sims Game, hints to be prototyped in Unreal Engine. A powerful program and tool used by many video game development companies.

Although the next generation Sims Game will have a Multiplayer aspect attached to it, there’s plenty of more information that we listed in the beginning of the article. The next generation Sims Game seem to include plenty of different possibilities and modes for players, with Multiplayer being just one of them.

Here’s the description for the Multiplayer Gameplay Software Engineer, as well as responsibilities and qualifications that reveal new information about the next generation Sims development:

Maxis is looking for an engineer that can help us bring the next wave of simulation features to life. This engineer will work with an experienced team that has collectively built almost all Maxis games in the past two decades. You will work with multiple designers and simulation engineers prototyping and shipping different features that expand the gameplay possibilities of Sims games. Most of the work will be done in Unreal Engine, both in C++ and blueprints.

As a Gameplay ‘Simulation’ Engineer for a game at Maxis, you will report to a Development Director and will:

  • Work with designers, producers, artists, and other core and backend engineers to build a framework that brings designs to life.
  • Implement a data-driven simulation system to author player facing behaviors in C++.
  • Build creative aspects of real life within a simulation game (e.g. socialization, careers, weather, and unique characters).
  • Author technical design documents detailing software requirements.
  • Build unique content for a game that supports a large demographic of simulation player patterns.

Qualifications

Please note that you do not need to qualify for all requirements to be considered. We encourage you to apply if you can meet most of the requirements and are comfortable opening a dialog to be considered.

  • Bachelor/Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ year experience in a hands-on development role.
  • Demonstrate technical abilities with large projects implemented in C++.
  • Experience building and shipping AAA games in Unreal engine.
  • Previous engineering experience overseeing major systems in code bases.
  • Experience and willingness to create multiple short-lived prototypes.
  • Experience developing for large-scale live products. Products that always update to provide higher quality, and feature set to expand the possibilities in the game.
  • Experience building features and tools for games (or applications) that support a collaborative User Generated Content community.
  • Experience working in collaborative environments with many-sided roles beyond engineering like design, production, art and product management.
  • Experience optimizing performance and memory of real-time applications (like games).
  • Experience with Windows platform and development tools.

With all of that being said, I’m happy to see that Maxis is finally getting its strenght back to work on multiple projects all at once.

As we keep reporting on the news about The Sims 5, it’s worth noting once again that Maxis has different teams working on different projects. There’s a team for The Sims 4, The Sims 5 and an unnanounced upcoming IP from Maxis rumored to be titled Lost Astral.

Exciting times seem to be ahead of us, and we’ll make sure to keep you updated on every step of the way!
